Badger Posted 12 June, 2025 Posted 12 June, 2025 Read the title and wondered what song it came from. No idea, perhaps the next line is about 4,000 holes in Blackburn, Lancashire… 1
Colinjb Posted 12 June, 2025 Posted 12 June, 2025 New Craig David song? Met this Skate on Monday..... 1
Give it to Ron Posted 12 June, 2025 Posted 12 June, 2025 I used to work with a load at North Harbour, when winning would crow and brag but when losing never heard a peep from them. 1
Turkish Posted 12 June, 2025 Posted 12 June, 2025 i worked in Whitely many years ago, there were quite a few there. One was alright but most of them lived up to the usual profile. Full of bollocks, always on about how they were a bigger club, better fans, more trophies, everyone in Portsmouth was double hard etc. 1
benjii Posted 12 June, 2025 Author Posted 12 June, 2025 He did say he thought they were going to batter us this season but after I said, "really, you actually think that?" about 20 times, I could see he didn't really think it.

Hamwic Posted 12 June, 2025 Posted 12 June, 2025 Some years ago I was 6000 miles away in Macau for work. I went into a bar with one other customer who hearing me speak English, joined me. He turned out to be a Skate! The gods had it in for me. 1

WinglessWonder Posted 12 June, 2025 Posted 12 June, 2025 I live in Fareham for my sins and volunteer at the football club. Plenty of skates there but they are mostly good guys to be fair!

bangkoksaint Posted 13 June, 2025 Posted 13 June, 2025 The South coast would be a better place football wise if we were both in the Prem. I’d rather be facing them twice a season than the likes of Norwich or Blackburn etc. I don’t get those that want their direct derby rivals relegated. These games mean something, we look forward to them and we dine out for weeks with the winning bragging rights. On the 26th it’ll be the first games we all look for.
Miltonaggro Posted 13 June, 2025 Posted 13 June, 2025 The problem is that sometimes when you look into their eyes they could be almost human. Recent research suggests that some members of advanced troops can use rudimentary tools and work as teams to achieve mutually beneficial group tasks. But you should always be wary if you encounter one in the open, they are known to habitually carry chlamydia and rabies, and some have the physical strength of a very petite woman.

dsrdorset Posted 13 June, 2025 Posted 13 June, 2025 I met one recently at Southampton hospital. He was sound to be fair, nice lad. I think they are when they are on their own! 1

John Boy Saint Posted 15 June, 2025 Posted 15 June, 2025 This just made me think of when at school many many moons ago, despite being in the far north of ‘Ampshoire there were a good number of Saints fans, but there was a blue few always ready with a derogatory quip to us all. Fair play to one of them though, he went to every p*mpey home game with his Dad , not by car, coach or train, they made the 90 mile round trip with him as pillion on the back of his Dads Honda 90 scooter - begrudgingly even now I can respect that: mostly for doing it on the back of a Honda 90 in all weathers. Apologies for any offence - I do feel dirty for confessing this. 1

sockeye Posted 15 June, 2025 Posted 15 June, 2025 They tend to be alright when not talking about football.
benjii Posted 16 June, 2025 Author Posted 16 June, 2025 I've reflected on this and decided he wasn't alright after all. Normal service resumed. 1
steve green Posted 16 June, 2025 Posted 16 June, 2025 Best friend of 42yrs is a Pompey fan. Never a problem as we've always respected (if frequently ridiculed) each others passion for our club. Took me to Fratton once, disappeared when he realised I'd left my Saints badge on my leather jacket. Lucky I did notice before the delightful locals were able to. He has enjoyed the St Mary's on many occasions, last time got more annoyed than myself about 'spam's cheating which was quite funny. His hatred of Burnley's fans originated over their behaviour when Fraser buggered his knee in 2015, not helped by their attitude towards women evident in the pubs before and after the game. Such modern gents. He hates the drunken twat with bells, I'm not a great fan of 'the gun' song as it shows lack of imagination imo. We continue to take great pleasure in each other team's problems, but don't personalise it. After all I like to know he's just a phone call away when the Skates cock up. 1
Backrow91 Posted 16 June, 2025 Posted 16 June, 2025 I too have a good friend from that neck of the woods! The subject of much ridicule and banter as his parents were Scottish (half skate/half jock 😂) Have been to their place “undercover” and witnessed first hand the locals. Some of it not pretty and the general atmosphere always seems to have an “edge” to it. Always recall one game when I was with him where they lost 3/1 and as we left a steward said to me “that was crap today” to which I replied “ I rather enjoyed actually!” Smiled and left. Little did he know, a little insurance, that I had my Saints t shirt under my jacket . Haha. Anyways, back on track, my contacts on phone have my friend down as “My mate the skate” and I am in his contacts as his “chum the scum” all good natured as we know where that line is drawn…. Not crossed it yet!!!

Gloucester Saint Posted 16 June, 2025 Posted 16 June, 2025 4 hours ago, warsash saint said: Most skates I know hate TCWTB. I know plenty and none of them have a good word to say about him. Two main reasons cited every time: 1) Personal hygiene (allegedly) and 2) extent of drinking which might contribute further to 1) and the fact he’s urinated on the SMS seats IIRC? I’m fairly certain he did at the League Cup game because he was banned for the League game at Christmas and we were singing ‘Ding Dong, Ding Dong, where’s your bell gone?’ to their fans. IIRC he was also banned from an England game at SMS for wearing a skate shirt? He was banned by the skates from when he was up here for urinating outside at the turnstiles at FGR a couple of years ago https://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/football/portsmouth-fc/im-disappointed-with-myself-portsmouth-fc-fanatic-john-westwood-banned-for-second-time-this-season-after-publicly-urinating-outside-forest-green-stadium-3896168 Seems to be something of a consensus amongst their fans https://thepompeychimes.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=80373
