david in sweden Posted 30 January, 2009 Share Posted 30 January, 2009 released by Preston ! NO !!!!!!!!!!! I'm not going to suggest the obvious, but to spare a thought for a brave hard-working fella' who always gave 100% for us ...even if the Premiership was ...a bit above his level. (Recalling stories, when he was newly-arrived and Strachan had 4 injured / sick strikers, he volunteered to put on a shirt despite being unfit to play !) NOT amongst the top goalscorers of his time, but a great provider who gave James Beattie a tireless service...... and more than a few assists. Hope he can find a good niche to play out his career. Good Luck Brett.

Spanner MkIII Posted 30 January, 2009 Share Posted 30 January, 2009 Never really rated Ormerod, but he always gave 100% for the cause. I honestly thought that when we dropped down from the premiership Ormerod would come into his own. Wrong!

Teddy Nutkins Posted 30 January, 2009 Share Posted 30 January, 2009 (edited) Good luck,Brett, the header at Villa Park will stay in my memory bank forever, along with Stokesies goal in 1976. St Landrew Posted 30 January, 2009 Share Posted 30 January, 2009 I remember he always wore his socks rolled down. A real grafter - good luck to him. Not rolled down, but at 3/4 length and sat just on top of his shinpads. Looked odd to me. Neither fish, nor fowl. Slightly famous for the fact that in PES4 there is a little kit configuration where you can have your player sport the Brett Ormerod sock length look. This little pic from the Villa Park 2003 FAC semi-final illustrates: Pull those bloody socks up Brett..!

View From The Top Posted 30 January, 2009 Share Posted 30 January, 2009 If goaldrought but if half the effort of Brett then he'd be a decent player. Brett, thanks for the Watford goal. The happiest I've ever been as an adult Saints fan.

Saint Fan CaM Posted 30 January, 2009 Share Posted 30 January, 2009 Frustrated the hell out of me - his effort never seemed to result in a commensurate level of success, but compared to what we see nowadays this guy was world-class! LOL. Good luck Brett - you were a fine servant, if only to Philips missus. [chuckle]
Bakovnetski Posted 30 January, 2009 Share Posted 30 January, 2009 Sign him up. Always remember game against Citeh when he scored 2 in the first half and could have got another 3 in the second if it wasn't for Schmeichel. Always worked hard and was under-rated IMO for contribution as the runner feeding the main striker. Of course the Watford game too. Didn't the football genius leave for Korea because he was ****ging Brett's wife?

AndyNorthernSaints Posted 31 January, 2009 Share Posted 31 January, 2009 Decent underated player for us and great striking partner for Beattie at the time. Apart from semi final goal one of my fav memories seeing him was at Anfield when he scored the opener in 2-1 win which meant we went 4th in the table. Happy days that seem a long time ago now. Kingsland Codger Posted 31 January, 2009 Share Posted 31 January, 2009 It's not so much his goals I remember (Watford apart) but the way he set them up for others. 1) Robbing the Portsmouth defender of the ball that allowed Marsden (I think) to cross to Beattie to score in the 2-0 League Cup win. 2) A midweek game at West Ham (Nov/Dec 2002?) - it was 0-0 with only a couple of minutes to go. Brett broke down the left wing, crossed to Beattie and both Beattie and the ball ended up in the net. 3) A home match against Leeds (Jan/Feb 2004?). Phillips hadn't scored for a while. The Leeds defenders had the ball and were passing it amongst themselves deep in their own half. Brett chases one down, the Leeds player passes, Brett chases again and again the defenders pass, Brett chases a third time and the Leeds defender, under pressure, passes it straight to Phillips who scored. I always felt sorry for him when we were 3-2 up against Charlton and Brett had scored two. Into stoppage time he got a break and was one-on-one with the Charlton keeper - who saved it, thus denying Brett a Premiership hat-trick. Happy days.
