Us and them

Our position at the bottom is uncannily close to that lot down the road e.g. a game in hand that could move us out & up a few places. I guess the difference is that our form is above average but theres is awful!

If we stay up, avoid admin & they go down & go bust I would personally call it a good season!

Just one cloud to this silver lining....we would have to play each other twice next season....them with parachute payment and ex-Premiership players and us with.....no, doesn't bear thinking about.....

edit: scrap that, just read the bit about them going bust too....happy days.... :)

And I thought this thread was going to be a discussion about the Dark Side of the Moon.

You deserve a Medal for that one.

The thing with them and us meetng again is that I remember thinking how we were in the wrong division with our Prem players, this attitude both on and off the field worlked against us.

We would have every chance of doing the double imho.

I'd settle for the first part of that frankly. The continued plight of the skates would be a bonus.

I'm totally with Ponty on this one:

It would be much easier to be gleeful, or even care, about their predicament if ours wasn't as bad (worse).

After the Blackburn result tonight, the game against Boro is a biggie for that lot.

South coast football is in the mire.

You're not wrong! All the teams in our region are struggling these days. Brighton, Bournemouth, Saints and P*mpey all finding it tough. It was only a few years ago that Brighton were in The Champ, Bournemouth were pushing for playoffs in League One, whilst both Saints and 'those lot down the road' were both doing well in The Prem!

It would mean that so many things have gone better than I expected if we play Pompey next season. You can wear 'any colour that you like' as long as it's Red and white, the blue few are animals in my opinion. I would love to wave Goobbye Blue Few to them as we line the animals up against the wall. The return Live at Pompei could be interesting as most of them have brain damage anyway.

Very uncharitable of you. Why beggar thy neighbour just because we are incompetent?

What is the relevance of Pompey's plight to our position right now. Portsmouth could be a thousand miles away as far as the interest of most fans is concerned. Most people I know at SMS haven't the faintest idea what is going on down there or even who plays for them.

This whole rivalry thing is artificially contrived to divert attention away from the realities of life at Saints in the Lowe era. When they were a league or two below us nobody gave a toss.

Are you serious ?

The rivalry has always been there....Always will.... long before Lowe and long after Lowe has gone..... and probably long long after the likes of us have gone to another world.....

As for giving a toss... Most Saints fans give a toss about them because they want to see them in a worse position than us,financially and in league status.

I'd love that - just to play them again! But I think the likelihood is Saints relegate and Pompey survive I'm afraid.

For anyone who says that they don't care what our rivals are up to  - you must never have been labelled a 'dirty scummer' and certainly couldn't have been there the night they committed the cardinal sin of abusing a minute of silence.

Never forget.

The rivalry is VERY real if you live on the front line and have to deal with it every day, you also get far more interested in their plight as a result.

So, it's a HUGE day for both clubs on Saturday.

If they get nothing at Boro they deserve to go down, and it is good to see that they are still five years behind us as their club is also a house of cards and the longer they hold onto their ludicrously overpaid players the more damage it is doing.

Their business model and wage structure is based on Champions League income so staying up ain't no good to their bank balance.

They will be forced to have a summer clearout and if they go down they could well be in a worse state than us soon, which personally cheers me up no end.

Don't believe the hype, their figures don't stack up.

'Sven for Pompey!' - oh, nearly, it's minimum wage Hart instead....

So I proudly revel in their failure every time it happens!!!

With so little to cheer can't we have a few laughs?

I guess that :

A) You dont sit in the Northam End - everybody around me are well aware of what they are up to, know every word of every Anti Pompey Song & listen out for their score at the end hoping to be cheered up!

B) You dont live between the two cities. As somebody above said, some of us live on the front line, I'm reasonably lucky to have 2 saints supporting families opposite me but my neighbour is a Blue.

;)

Many years ago I used to live on 'the front line' and all was generally well. Things changed when Saints became the dominant force on the S Coast and a significant proportion of Pompey fans became v unpleasant and, human nature as it is, this has been reciprocated by some Saints fans.

However I still know a good few Pompey fans that are fine.

The nasty ones, well, they may deserve some uncharitable behaviour.

In the unlikely event of Pompey and Saints being in the Championship next season, I guess Pompey would benefit from the Parachute payment plus fairly significant revenue from the sale of a number of players.

Most of their (high earning)players would have to go but a decent Manager with reasonable funds should make them a force to be reckoned with.

In comparison our squad is likely to be decimated by the need to get our own high earners off the wage bill.

Whilst I look forward to seeing Saints regain the title of S Coast top side, I don't see this happening for a few years yet, unfortunately

However relegation for Pompey would surely scupper their new stadium plans.

It's also about time Soton University hiked up the rent charge on the Stoneham Lane training facilities.

its about the only thing i can have a laugh about in the pub as the landlord is a pompey season ticket holder,[says no more after this season].givin up his ticket.

You can have plenty of fun if they do go down, accusing him of being a plastic, whereas you have stuck by your team regardless of the fact that they are no longer at the top level. Anyway, what is he a Skate for, if presumably he is in Fair Oak? Serves him right!
