Yes did ok. Good goal and two or three other decent attempts in first half. Early on played a couple balls to left hand corner. Clearly someone should have been moving into that space but weren't doing their job. As a result Gaston got a bit of stick - unjustly in my view.
-
Totally agree. The embarrassment will be when we get toward the final and people moan about not getting tickets cos they couldn't be bothered to go to the Bristol city game....
-
Yes. Going with same team as Sunday too. They deserve to start. Think JWP and Ramirez will both play roles later on though. And I would like to see the option of Cork on the bench. I'm starting to think he is carrying injury otherwise he would have been involved at the weekend surely?
-
The difference isn't as great as people make out but JWP is very articulate. Almost obsessed with fitness and is tee total. All reflects his drive to get to the top whereas Luke has a more natural ability mixed with a degree of 'footballing' intelligence.
-
Erm.. Didn't we have a thread last year criticising our lack of goals from set pieces?
-
Which entitles me to criticise. Far better to have £10k a week and play than not. That said I accept in the real world people can't always Afford to waive half their salary. He can, I am sure.
-
No. He's not. He may be getting paid that... ... He's certainly not earning it
-
Omg. £10,000 per week?? Take it Billy. Take it!
-
A strange choice to drop JWP given his performances to date and personally I would go for lambert for his sheer work rate. But that means sacrificing lallana and Rodriguez which doesn't really appeal either. It's good that we have so many players competing for places now. Tough on anyone being left out really.

Would love to see a puncheon style comeback even though my head says he will struggle to fight his way back into our plans

Are Jason Dodd and Martin Hunter on borrowed time?
Mowgli replied to jasoneuelllfanclub's topic in The Saints
To be fair it's not that dumb. It was stated at the end of last season- possibly even by Dodd and hunter - that they weren't too worried last year about results because they were feeding the first team well. But they said there would be much more emphasis on results this season. They wanted the youngsters to adopt more of a winning mentality. Answering the OP, I don't think they are on borrowed time because they have very different groups to work with and that needs time to gel. But make no mistake - they are judged on results. For the u21s especially that was a very strong team on paper so I hope hunter will read them the riot act. Can't ell feeling they should have beaten Sunderland. -
I would not have thought ge would be hopping about like he is if it was a break. More likely ligament strain

Steve de Ridder has a pop at English football culture
Mowgli replied to Lallana's Left Peg's topic in The Saints
He did well before became to us. He's doing ok since he left. From that I think you can conclude he is not terrible but he did not fit with either style of play and found it difficult to adapt. Good luck to him. -
Good luck to them. Would much rather they were back in the premier league with us so we could revive the rivalry. What's the point in a local rival if you can't actually trounce them every now and then?

Yet Another Goal From A Corner With No One On The Posts
Mowgli replied to TijuanaTim's topic in The Saints
I was just about to post the same comment. Unless you have two extra players on the pitch, putting one on each post means two players will be unmarked and have a free header. Besides, defenders on the line just get in the keepers way. Really is living in the past. -

Mowgli replied to mcbendy's topic in The Saints
You jest, but WGS used to argue this was all that the players (he had then) could understand. It was a bit patronising to the players but its hardly surprising some of our older fans struggle. -

Well put mcbendy. I'm sure Sanchez and Sweden are still scratching their heads though... -
Yes, he said both half time substitutions were 'tacticl'

Bank holiday weekend? We rarely sell out our first home game. Loads of people on holiday. Anything over 27 ,000 is really impressive. And there's always something wrong with the pricing - we either sellout and could have charged more or we have empty seats and we should have lowered price.
-
This pretty much sums it up for me. I've book marked Reading in my browser and I still find him quite inspirational. Yes, definately one of the best English managers around and could well manage a top 6 premier league team before he retires. Really want to see Reading get promoted this year
-
Surely the secret is not to be that clear. The harder it is for he opposition to work it out, the more effective it will be. I can see the front constantly switching and moving to confuse and create opportunities.

Twitter now starting to suggest he has rejected latest offer from Saints as reported in the star (I know)

Oh sod it. Let 'em have Osvaldo and we can buy Bale back....
