TBF, when you read that, Johnson's sentence is disproportionate. I'm not defending his behaviour but I do think he's being treated much more harshly because of who he is, rather than what he has done !

Obviously a very small minority but having travelled extensively in Pakistan, Indonesia and Malaysia over the years I was always surprised (in conversation) by the unequivocal support for anything to do with Islam, no matter how extreme the circumstances and condemnation for atrocities was almost unheard of ! Yes, radicalisation is the problem but in my opinion the only solution lies in the hands of the Muslim people, not with westerners !

Personally, I think that the sentence is harsh and aimed at setting an example more than anything ! Not saying that he deserves sympathy but individuals with lower public profiles would have certainly gotten a lot less ! The main charge of 'digital penetration' was with consent, only the age of the girl was an issue ! Wrong, wrong, wrong, I accept but a very severe punishment for the actual crime IMHO. It might have been nice to see a march of Muslim mothers in Brussels, holding candles and demanding a stop to the atrocities. There have been over 200 Belgian returnees from Syria, do their families just say " welcome back son, how are Raqqah and Alleppo at this time of year, oh my, you've lost a bit of weight" ?
