Sheffield Wednesday 0-1 Saints - Post-match reaction thread
Stu Man Do replied to stevegrant's topic in The Saints
But ... We GOT ONE!! FINALLY! Thought we might take a spanking today but sounded like we soaked up the pressure well and became far more confident once the goal went in! Ideally get an early goal in tuesdays game and Yeovil could take one helllllllofa beating ;-) -
Meaningless because they don't fit with what you're spouting? I agree that hes been poor this season but to bang on that as a striker he isn't scoring enough and not good enough for the team is just wrong. The guys scored over 60 goals in 2 seasons at this level so hes hardly unproven at this level.

Last year Lambert left Colchester for Norwich after resigning. If memory serves the compo was only sorted in the summer by tribunal so doesnt seem to have affected his ability to start work as soon as he had resigned. As others have said clearly we need some direction at the moment and need the new bloke in ASAP else next weeks result is already a foregone conclusion! :-(
-
Personally I think if hes carrying an injury we would be better off taking him out of the next game with a place on the bench and let him get that sorted. We will be in even bigger trouble if his groin, if that is the issue, does go and hes out for 6 or 7 weeks. From what I've seen of him in the home games this year he looks markedly off the pace from not having a full pre season is it just me or does he appear to be carrying some excess baggage in comparison to last season?
-
You have only just realised a team including the likes of Landon Donovan and David Beckham would beat a 3rd division English team? Amazing! It is of course disappointing but what would else do you expect?
-

Do you think our scouts misheard and hes actually from Brizzzzle not Braaazil? ;-) Never a winger! Seemed to me like Harding lost all faith in him to do anything after 20 mins and just stopped passing to him!
-
The only difference between ourselves on this forum and MLT in this scenario is that he is associated to the media and therefore his views will recieve wider audience. That and the fact that for most of my early Saints supporting life he WAS southampton fc means IMO let him have his say. Hes a grown man and if he wants to have a pop at Cortese he is fully entitled to do so.
-
Exactly for all the fuss made over him being an amazing youth team development coach how many Charlton super stars can you come up with that he coached to a decent level from his youth academy?
-
Ha thats a major straw clutch mate! If we do end up with Paul Hart thats the end of our season utterly utterly underwhelmed with alot of the bosses we seem to be being linked with! I do however have a feeling we will end up with some foriegn 1st team coach to fit into NC's more continetal based approach meaning Les Reed has more clout when it comes to transfers etc Not a good set up IMO
-
Thanks Pards. The last year has included some of my fave memories of Southampton FC. Shocking decision to get rid of you best of luck in the future!
-
ALWAYS agree with the CORTESE way or its the high way? ;-) Play the perfect game? Winning is just not enough nowadays at least when Real Madrid sack their managers for poor footballing style they've usually won the championship!
-
Awful timing as we are now stuck with the squad as is when it is clear we are missing a few key positions! I am gutted for Alan as I felt with the last result we had turned the corner. If NC doesnt pull the proverbial rabbit from the hat over a new manager this will only compound the stupidity IMO. I guess its wait and see time boys!
-
In which case you are suggesting that by signing Antonio we are better than evens to go up? He is a decent prospect but to suggest even indirectly that he is the man to get us promoted is IMO not the way forward. Also you seem to be suggesting that we sign a team capable of promotion even if those players then are not good enough for the division higher? "worrying about the rest later" as you put it was the sort of financial thinking in the play offs season that many people on here including yourself have been wanting to move away from surely?!
-
Presumably we could just wait till January and then make him an offer as a free transfer for the start of next season if we reallllly want him. Paying a million at the moment would be IMO over the odds for him.
-
To be fair to him he was much better tonight than on Saturday. Shame he bottles alot of challenges! Just wish he would speed his play up might help us get a break. I think the big problem we will have this year is the lack of anyone else breaking from midfield when we get forward. No one in the box when he does get to the byline!
-
Which is a fair point aside from the fact that both those sides kept a good amount of their Championship squads from the season before. Our whole team needed re-building as I'm sure you'd agree Dave Mcgoaldrought or Rickie Lambert? ;-)

In fairness the options on the bench this year are cack! Its the one major difference IMO from last seasons squad in that we currently have no real Plan B. I would however have wanted OXO on a bit earlier as he looked pretty decent from teh couple of games Ive seen of him. -

Really should have burried them easily. Hugely outplayed them up until the equaliser and then seemed to go into headless chicken mode. We stopped the incisive passing moves with Puncheon deciding to take 3 touches when a quick pass would have been better. The rest of the midfield seemed to not want to go forward at times. I would question fitness to an extent Lambert was having to stretch out cramp after about 60 mins. Also bit concerned about Butterfield if Richardson is going to be out much longer, general lack of pace and was getting skinned for fun by their number 16. Overall we appear to be playing quite well but nerves are clearly playing a part in things. If it helps them just let the little dears know we are no longer nailed on Faves for the league! maybe that'll help ;-) -
The Telegraph today suggested that only money "on top of" the 4.6million initial outlay of the publishers would go to the legion. This would mean Blair would need to sell well over a million copies of his book.

Markus Liebherr RIP. All tributes here please.

Thank you so so much for everything you have done for our team in such a short space of time. You took our club into your heart as much any other true fan of Southampton FC indeed without you there would no longer be a league club in Southampton! RIP Markus a true legend and a gentleman. -
Idiot ... right what I meant to say was 10 mins of solid support and we scored doesnt take a brain surgeon to realise we back the players and they might just up their level!
-
Funnily enough I said to the guys I went to the game with just what good support could lead to! 1

Waigo played 83 mins for Fiorentina on Saturday vs Spurs setting up the first goal so unfortunately looks like there is little prospect of him returning :-( I agree fully that he would have made a difference on saturday as the wings weren't really the problem. We really need someone who can hold the ball up/ a bigger striker as back up for RL to actually get on the end of the crosses we were putting in for the first 45 mins.

Strangely me and a friend used to call Dyer "Doctor Yam" we imagined he would say Yammmmmmmm as he ran along with his duck like waddle. As for Antonio ... No sorry :-p
