To be fair to him he was much better tonight than on Saturday. Shame he bottles alot of challenges! Just wish he would speed his play up might help us get a break. I think the big problem we will have this year is the lack of anyone else breaking from midfield when we get forward. No one in the box when he does get to the byline!
-
Which is a fair point aside from the fact that both those sides kept a good amount of their Championship squads from the season before. Our whole team needed re-building as I'm sure you'd agree Dave Mcgoaldrought or Rickie Lambert? ;-)

Southampton 1 - 1 Leyton Orient - Post match reaction

In fairness the options on the bench this year are cack! Its the one major difference IMO from last seasons squad in that we currently have no real Plan B. I would however have wanted OXO on a bit earlier as he looked pretty decent from teh couple of games Ive seen of him. -

Really should have burried them easily. Hugely outplayed them up until the equaliser and then seemed to go into headless chicken mode. We stopped the incisive passing moves with Puncheon deciding to take 3 touches when a quick pass would have been better. The rest of the midfield seemed to not want to go forward at times. I would question fitness to an extent Lambert was having to stretch out cramp after about 60 mins. Also bit concerned about Butterfield if Richardson is going to be out much longer, general lack of pace and was getting skinned for fun by their number 16. Overall we appear to be playing quite well but nerves are clearly playing a part in things. If it helps them just let the little dears know we are no longer nailed on Faves for the league! maybe that'll help ;-) -
The Telegraph today suggested that only money "on top of" the 4.6million initial outlay of the publishers would go to the legion. This would mean Blair would need to sell well over a million copies of his book.

Markus Liebherr RIP. All tributes here please.

Thank you so so much for everything you have done for our team in such a short space of time. You took our club into your heart as much any other true fan of Southampton FC indeed without you there would no longer be a league club in Southampton! RIP Markus a true legend and a gentleman. -
Idiot ... right what I meant to say was 10 mins of solid support and we scored doesnt take a brain surgeon to realise we back the players and they might just up their level!
-
Funnily enough I said to the guys I went to the game with just what good support could lead to! 1

Waigo played 83 mins for Fiorentina on Saturday vs Spurs setting up the first goal so unfortunately looks like there is little prospect of him returning :-( I agree fully that he would have made a difference on saturday as the wings weren't really the problem. We really need someone who can hold the ball up/ a bigger striker as back up for RL to actually get on the end of the crosses we were putting in for the first 45 mins.

Strangely me and a friend used to call Dyer "Doctor Yam" we imagined he would say Yammmmmmmm as he ran along with his duck like waddle. As for Antonio ... No sorry :-p
-
I know its not really relevant to us anymore but how did Antonio get on today when he came on? Also what are peoples thoughts on how well Barnard and DC linked up if the worst case was to happen and RL was injured would you be comfortable with those two starting?

Funniest Rumours of summer signings from days gone by
Stu Man Do replied to Turkish's topic in The Saints
David Platt as player manager after Souness quit, also same rumour concerning Gianluca Vialli! Has anyone mentioned Rosicky? just before he moved for 25 million or something like that to a german team! -
I read somewhere earlier (BBC website maybe!) that Dave Mcgoldrick is out for 3 months so unless they sign someone else soonish I think this one is probably dead if in fact it was a go to begin with! Would be just as happy to see Antonio signed up full time instead as I don't think we are really that short up front more a problem with pace from midfield/bench to change a game up.
-
That must be down to the high form they showed at the end of their relegation season ... oh :-p Can't say I'd take Morrison over Lambert or Barnard or even a fit DC!
-
I've just won a 1976 Fa cup final programme from an auction at work ... anyone know what sort of value it holds?
-
Doesn't like to tackle, not as good going forward as I was led to believe on signing him but then I guess he wouldn't have been on a free if he was any good! He might make me eat my words and will no doubt lay on the winner between our two teams now but I don't think you'll be overly impressed with him!

The Official Summer Transfers and HCDAJFU Thread
Stu Man Do replied to supersonic's topic in The Saints
Aliadere? Really!? God damn awful player lets hope hes a diva and refuses to drop down a division or take a pay cut ;-) -
Well Rupert Lowe was reported as saying once that the pay offer we'd made Hassan before he buggered off to Villa "Would have made him able to live like a king in his own country". He also played in France before coming to us so theres your french/moroccan connection. Remember you heard it here first ... Hassan Kachloul to buy the skates!

Things CP fans should get used to ... 1) Playing players out of position 2) Continually playing unpopular/underperforming players regardless of what they do in a game 3) Hiding in the dug out when things are going badly 4) Getting rid of good players on the cheap to replace them with "his" players 5) Blaming anything from a divet to the team not gelling yet for defeats

Not sure I can see SA holding it together over first Forlan and Sanchez and then probably Henry and Anelka but for the competition I'd really like to see SA and maybe Mexico go through looked the most inventive teams in the first two games anyway!

Different Ownership and Managment, same old summer
Stu Man Do replied to alpine_saint's topic in The Saints
1 point and 1 point only in this pointless discussion! How many rumours did you hear last year about Harding, Hammond or half a dozen other players before we finally signed them as far as I can remember the rumour was Barnard had signed for Leeds and look where he ended up! Still ... enjoy your wind up! -
From what I hear its definately the sash design. Like the umbro tailored for england shirt (before the current one) so with the old style collar. Although I only heard this from someone who knows someone at the club so take it or leave it as useful or not!! :-D Sounds good to me though if it's true!
-
Can't say I'm suprised. Looks like he has lost alot of confidence as shown by his lack of willingness to run with the ball as often as I remember him doing when he first came on the scence or THAT game vs croatia. Always seems to want too much time and is easily bullied off the ball. He has time on his side but I think he def needs to improve his crossing as a minimum before he's picked for England on a regular basis.

Expecting 3.5 to 4m for Utaka? Thats some seriously creative book keeping! With his wages they'll be lucky to offload him for much more than a million!

Papa Waigo ?
