2 more now to equal our second best every goal difference (57-58), think the 47 in 21-22 is out of sight though, maybe next season

There is no hint in that quote that he is blaming anyone. He is just making the point that we will see more and more teams coming simply to frustrate, and the best way to deal with that is for the fans to keep up the pressure and the noise and backing the team. It happened before AP was here that these sort of tactics get to supporters and crowds start booing and getting on players backs as we did during the Agent Orange and Burley eras. The best way of course to combat this is to find ways of overcoming these tactics, and that highlights the need for more creativity in MF and also the ability to change tactics during a game, sometimes slowing the game down rather than going like a bull at a gate as we were evidently doing against Oldham (according to Sky), again that needs leadership on the pitch (as well as off) to be able to sense something is not working and put your foot on the ball and take control.

Odds for League One 2010/11 out already!

Not sure about Rooney and Torres, too injury prone in my opinion. Rickie is better than Messi. Ronaldo would be a good squad player perhaps, though he would probably be behind Pulis in the pecking order -

I would be a bit concerned that they are giving odds for winning Coca Cola League One next season. I don't believe anyone will win that particular competition, Saints or otherwise. -
The big difference next season I hope is that we won't have so many cup-tied/loan players. Therefore the JPT will not disrupt things by having to juggle the team. We should be approaching the JPT in the same way we do the league (not higher or lower priority), with the same best team put out. AP will apparently be judged after 18 months (Dec10/Jan11) as would most mamagers in this situation. Personally if we are not top of the league at that point next season then something will not be right, thats not saying we should walk it in an arrogant way, but we should have the infrastructure and team to make that happen. Pushing for a play-off place at Xmas would be a huge failure IMHO. But I'm confident that we will be top or 2nd at worst.

Well I think this is a major part of our problem. If we had a crap pitch then we would get used to it and also be able to play on all of the **** pitches when we are away from home.

http://www.facebook.com/jordansibley I would imagine this may be Jordan. If you google he is actually quoted frequently on the web, never heard of him before though

Except one, and since then he has had 2 seasons of being top of the leagues. he must have been crap

Watford / Sheffield Wed / Palace also have financial problems, probably more so than Posh and Plymouth.

Clearly it was Barclays that put us into Admin, thats the way it is. Lowe could not do that, but he could have forced the issue, but as we know he was too pig-headed to admit he was wrong. Of course he was also pig-headed enough to think that the FL would not shaft us with a 10 pt deduction because it was SLH that went into administration. he didn;t count on there being an equally unpleasant character in charge of that organisation who leaped at the chance of shafting us. In the end although Lowe is fairly and squarely to blame, in some ways it may have been a blessing in disguise. Would we have been bought by Herr Liebherr if we had not gone into Admin, no. I suspect that Markus may have also paid less for SFC as a result of the 10 point deduction. That said I will always hold Lowe responsible for the relegation, administration and the 10 point penalty.

The answer to the original question is of course blindingly obvious to all on here. But thats not really the point is it? This is a young nipper, who is just starting his lifelong journey as a Saints fan (hopefully). When you're a nipper the players you see are your heroes. Rickie will never hold a candle to MLT in pure footballing terms. But then I come from a generation before MLT, and personally I consider Channon and Davies as better than le Tiss. Its subjective, but le Tiss came along at a time when football was not as big a part of my life as it was before or since. I recall taking my step-nipper along to see MLT on a few occassions, bigging him up only to be hugely disappointed with his showings, guess I just picked bad days. Depending on how old the nipper was I think a better comparison would be Beattie, similar sorts of players, brilliant with free-kicks and so on, and JB did the business in the PL, not the 3rd Division. But Lambert is class for the level he is at, probably too good, but I don't think he is good enough for the PL, and would struggle. Anyway, let the nippers form their own opinion and not try to influence them by ramming old DVDs down their throats, they will probably learn about that when the get a bit older. Heroes are for today, you can't make a retired player a hero for a kid.

Could the cups have dented promotion this season..?
VectisSaint replied to Thedelldays's topic in The Saints
Thats because although it may have been the worst score, we actually played very well, and were unlucky not to have won, 2 late goals when we were going for the win made it look far worse than it really was, management and players recognise that and gain confidence from the performance, not the result. Its only supporters who look on that day as "our worst defeat". I would argue our worst defeat was away to Swindon, or perhaps even at home to Swindon. There were probably others (but not many because we haven't lost many all season), but those are the ones that stick on my mind. -
Did NC ever mention Director of Football. I though it was actually Sporting Director, he was looking for someone on the Board to help him with the football side of things. Not necessarily the same thing as the DoF role traditionally. Anyway I though Coppell was in for it, but looks like he sees himself back in management with Bristol ****ty instead, maybe he's had a rethink of his future after being out of the game for a while.

There's always a bit of rivalry between teams in the same County, but not always a bitter rivalry like with the Skates these days. Everyone wants to be the local top dog. Just because Bournemouth was transferred to Dorset in the 1970s by some faceless beaureaucrats doesn't mean this sort of rivalry disappears. I've always had a soft spot for Bournemouth and will continue to do so, as long as we take 6 points from them next season. I would also like to see Aldershot promoted, for a while in the late 60s/early 70s they were effectively our reserve team (in their previous guise), several players who were cast off by Saints ended up there.

It will help Saints most if Colchester win against Huddersfied, we can overtake Colchester if our own results work out, but we need Huddersfield to lose at least one of their remaining games, and Colchester is the most likely team to do that.

See several posts below, it is not his 2nd red, the other one was overturned.

Not bad actually for a town with a population of just over 40k!!!

Probably because thats what "prevalent" means. "Powerful, dominant, widespread". Therefore ipso facto nearly everyone will agree with the prevalent viewpoint. Of course there will always be a dissenter or two, even if its often just to be different
-
Nah, when we go up they will go down again, we will miss them as they spiral down the divisions
-
You've still got Ceefax? No longer exists for some of us.

Should have gone to Iceland

2-1 to Hartlepool now

Not any more, 1-1

I suppose it depends on your definition of instrumental, but I would be shocked if AP was not very influential in the decision, probably recommended and NC would have interviewed (probably interviewed others as well), but in the end AP would have had a huge say. To think that the role of Reed is not connected with AP is naive to say the least, it is very important that you have someone you know and trust working the Academy and bringing the right players through. By the way, you are abslolutely correct that AP and LR did not work together at Charlton, Reed left for Fulham when AP was appointed.
