Added a rather hypothetical pole to make things sporting. I went for Wotton. He's an old clogger and it's uncannily like watching Jermaine Wright, but at least he can influence a game. Basically I've gone for crap over not giving a sh*t.

Yes. For a start about £24m is apparently the mortgage on the stadium, which is being payed back over something like the next 20 years. Secondly the club will be dirt cheap and has a potentially Premiership sized fanbase and Prem quality facilities. Thirdly, if the club IS bought out by someone with a bit of cash and we can come up with a CVA, HMV, DVD, STD... whatever it's called, there is no need for a further deduction. Forthly, people are apparently interested. Chin up FFS!

Not sure, maybe Wotte just wanted to give the kids a run out or something. I can only hope Size picked up a knock, because the alternative is just retarded. None of the subs did anything of note. Wotte, Gasmi, Pulis, Schneiderlin, Molyneux and a sh*t load of others I can't be arsed to list can all p*ss off.

First half Saints seemed well organised and fairly determined. Well worth our 1-0 lead. Second half we played by far the better football, but made defensive errors. By the time the 2nd and 3rd went in we'd pretty much given up. Irrelevant end to a terrible season IMO. As for the players: Davis - 6 Couple of decent saves, but most of Forest's efforts were either goals or way off target. Could have done better with the 2nd IMO, but not really at fault. James - 7 Very good first half, some good crosses. Went a bit quiet second half. Perry - 6 Not bad mistakes, but did get bullied a bit by Dexter and 3 goals is 3 goals. Size - 8 Put himself about brilliantly and looked up for the fight. A bit erratic at times diving in. Surman - 6 Didn't offer to much, but generally did what was needed at the back. Lallana - 6 Was poor in the first half, but looked better second when we started playing good football. Ran at players, but no real end product. Gillett - 7 Kept slipping over and passing was a bit off, but a decent engine. Will be useful in L1. Schneiderlin - 3 Just awful. Didn't seem to care and never got out of second gear for anything. Only good thing I can say is his passing was okay, although very predictable and never adventurous. BWP - 7 Well taken goal and always looked lively first half. Went off the boil second half. DMG - 8 MOTM. Looked far more up for it than he did for the first 3/4 of the season. Put in some challenges and was always running onto balls. Euell - 6 Good hold up play. F**k all else really. Subs: Lancashire, Gasmi and Gobern - 5 All pretty forgettable

Okay, he is up against some pretty stiff competition. Delgado of course costing about £3m for about 3 games in 3 years. Jelle van Damme and David Prutton weren't the best players we've spent £2.5m each on and we spent way over the odds signing Darren Powell on a free transfer. But £1.2m (Yes everyone claims to be ITK about various aspects and how we "only" paid £600k up front etc) on an unproven French teenager, for a bankrupt club like Saints? I just do not get it. I don't want to write off a teenager, but lets take a peak at this seasons stats: Appearances - 33 (25 starts 8 sub) Goals - 0 Assists - 0 Shots on target - 4 Shots off target - 12 Headers won - 1 That is absolutely f**king appaling, and he doesn't track back or tackle either. And he seems to have a worrying injury record. Today he just couldn't have looked less interested. Never put his foot in, never had a shot, made a run. Always played the obvious pass, never tried anything special, didn't track back and defend. Spending £1.2m on a player for Saints this season, would have been like spending £10m after the cup final IMO. The sooner Arsenal sign him the better.

Maybe so, but Lowe has been the single biggest reason for our decline over the last 5 years, and is the one looking most likely to carry on in the future. IMO it was vital to let Lowe know he wasn't welcome, even if he wont listen.

Well done to all those that went. It was a pretty good turn out and atmosphere considering it's a 3 hour drive from Southampton for a relegated team with nothing to play for. Some good chants. We did our best to make Rupert feel welcome and there was a good mix of songs. Every time Forest scored, we had a disco in the away end. Weird to see all 4 sides of a ground singing and dancing after a goal goes in. Was also good to here Marian Pahars' chant get thrown in randomly a couple of times. Song of the day: "Stand Up if you've got swine flu!" Saints looked the better side throughout most of the game, but it just seemed to fall apart at the end really. Story of our season I guess. Our goal was pretty well taken by BWP, who looked pretty lively. I honnestly didn't see any of their first as I was looking at the home fans at the time. Their second resulted, surprisingly enough, from poor marking at a set piece. By the time the third went in it was pretty much 3 Forest players against Kelvin as the rest of our lot were halfway down the tunnel. Size, James, DMG and BWP looked like our best players for me. Size and DMG in particular looked well up for it.

Pretty sure he was. I was quite far away from the directors box, but a few people around me claimed to have identified him (Hard to pick out his mug when it's surrounded by bright red shirts). Anyway, we let him know he wasn't welcome. Swing Lowe and various other songs, the big orange "Duck off" banner and a couple of posters were drifting around too.

Saga doesn't want to play League 1 football and isn't playing tomorrow
Arizona replied to Master Bates's topic in The Saints
I think Saga, like Surman, only produces his best form when the team around him is playing well. Unfortunately we aren't and therefore they aren't. Not surprised he's leaving. If I were an experienced international with World Cup aspiratios, I wouldn't be happy sat on the bench of a Division 3 club. Don't know what everyone is getting on their high horse about. It's nothing we didn't know already, other than Wotte leaving him out tomorrow. Nobody else will be here next season, if they get a decent offer. Thankyou Marek. In between the barren spells, there have been some fantastic goals, and he got us back into the playoffs almost single handedly in the second half of 2006/7. A lack of effort was never his problem, even when things weren't going his way. -
1st May is always a bit of a bitter-sweet day. 15 years since we lost Ayrton Senna too.
-
As a slight aside, you can almost put out an 11 of pointless signings this season: GK: Forecast RB: CB: CB: Lipstick LB: Molyneux RM: Smith CM: Schneiderlin CM: Pulis LM: Gasmi ST: Roberston ST: Pekhart

Remember when Man City did that on the last League game of 2002/3? IIRC, the Saints fans that did go got soaked and Killer scored a header from a corner after about 10mins. The goal gave us a 1-0 win, moved us up from 11th to 8th in the League and the extra £1.5m in prize money pretty much paid for his transfer fee on it's own. Think it was the last ever game at Maine Road and Saints completed the double over Man City. Ah memories...

Tessem: 'We've got to be brave and tough in League 1'
Arizona replied to eelpie's topic in The Saints
Nope. Just for spelling Wolfie's name wrong. (I've corrected it now) Tessem is another I'd like to see back at Saints in some kind of coaching capacity. Always liked his work ethic and how down to Earth he was. -
That is just awful.

Whilst I think everyone would agree Oakley was off the pace for most of the first season in CCC, I don't think that would have been the norm had he stayed. I think the constant changes in management and being played out of possition a lot didn't help his cause. He was also rushed back into service during the relegation season long before he was ready. They say it takes the length of time you've been out injured to regain full fitness. Given that Oakley had been injured for well over a year, he should have been regaining full fitness around the time he was released. This turned out to be 100% accurate as he played and scored on his Derby debut and was pretty much ever present and on top for all season. Whilst I can understand people's doubts over offering him a 2 year deal, I think he was a much better (i.e. younger and fitter) candidate than Wright or Idiakez, who both got 2 year contracts a month later.
-
Wouldn't do that if I were you. He'd only come back as chairman 3 days later.
-
13 goals, 1 was scored by Lallana, 3 penalties, 2 in the League Cup. That leaves 7 league goals (and 2 assists) for a striker who has been pretty much ever present for the whole season. Okay it's the best we've got in our current side, but it's not a good strike rate. We can only pray he is either sold for silly money (over £1m) or does a Fryatt.
-
Spurs paying way over the odds for a young English player? Don't be ridiculous.
-
What's even more tragic is that we could so easily have kept both Oakley and Pearson. Can't argue with anything in that article though. Was gutted when he left. I honnestly reckon if he hadn't got injured in '03 he could have played for England. I'm not saying he'd have been the cornerstone of a World Cup winning side, but if players like Scott Parker and Jermaine Jenas can get capped in central midfield...
-
Don't forget the leads we threw away at home to Reading, Birmingham, Swansea and Ipswich.
-
We'd have jsut f*cked it up at Forest anyway. This team has had dosens of chances to pull themselves out of this mess, but never showed the belief to do it.
-
If we do cease to be, would you back a fan founded club formed in it's wake?
Arizona replied to Colinjb's topic in The Saints
As a fan living away from Southampton, there is no way I am going to make a several hundred mile round trip to watch none-league football. I would support them in principle, follow the results etc. and go to a game if I am in the area for other reasons. -
I saw that this morning. I couldn't figure out why Beatts would be wearing last season's home kit. Surely it would be this seasons kit or one of the old ones from his time here. Unless of course Stoke aren't content with collecting our old players and now want our old kits for next season too. Anyway, good to see Beattie doing something to support the club (though I have no idea what). I can't imagine Kevin Phillips doing anything like... whatever it is he's doing.

Bit of an weird spelling mistake there. :-? I think you mean:
