  1. Would be a cracking signing on a free. He's always been a goalscorer, I'm suprised Blackburn let him go. He just needs a settled place to call home. After Jeffrey Schlupp scored a hattrick for them last night, they may have the answer in attack already within their ranks. He was the guy that was on loan to Brentford last season and did so well.
  2. If Joey Barton can get back in the first team at Newcastle (after the stories coming out of their camp, I never thought I'd see him in a Geordie shirt again), then it would come as no surprise to me if Adkins and Puncheon drew a line through things and he started back in the first team. There's probably a 0.5% chance of that happening, but if it does, I won't be applauding his hattricks. I think he'll be a deadline day signing for someone.
  3. My predictions are usually wrong tbf! (As he tips Torquay for the win...)
  4. This. I've been predicting vigilantism for years. As much faith as I have in the Police, there just aren't enough of them and more and more young people are running feral. Communties, business people and the law abiding will soon take matters into their own hands to sort this mindless violence out. Fights will occur, more people will die. It sounds far fetched but it is seemingly very possible. The scenes of the last 3 nights could run and run. 16,000 officers on the streets tonight is all well and good, but: a) it's too little too late and b) it won't be 16,000 every night. This country is really looking like the pits, and these young people are our future. I'm worried.
  5. Destroying Fratton Park would be doing them a favour.
  6. My heart thinks we're good enough to get promoted, my head thinks we'll be thankful for a play-off push. The best time to review our chances would be on the first of September. Only then will we know our complete squad and indeed how we've fared over the first few games.
  7. Our Saviour. If only we'd had a few more years... RIP
  8. I always like playing Torquay because they're my Dad's team. I don't think we'll change the team too much though, the back four may even be kept together, although Butterfield, Seaborne and Dickson would surely be knocking on the door. SOmething like: Bart, Richardson, Fonte, Martin, Harding, De Ridder, Morgan, Deano, Lallana, Lambert, Barnard/Forte. Whoever we choose I reckon we will win this, it would be interesting to see some squad faces though.
  9. Tomorrow's West Ham/Aldershot match has been postponed. There's a joke in there somewhere...
  10. I'd have chucked Puncheon into any deal involving Oxo tbf. I never want to see him in a Saints shirt again, even if his gets on his knees and apologises for thinking he's better than us. Sell him, get a better, more contented replacement in. I must admit I thought Chaplow had a pretty good cameo on the right when he came on against Leeds, so that's another option, but I would expect to see Oxo and Punch out and one more winger brought in, as well as that elusive CB and Striker spots.
  11. 1) Sad to see him go. He's a good player who did very well in his first season for us last season, especially with Puncheon throwing a paddy. 2) If the figure of £12 million with £3 million in add ons is correct (surely with a sell on fee), then that is a fantastic deal, and with the club not needing the money to pay bills, surely the majority of that will be re-invested into the playing squad. 3) As bitter as I am at his sale, I do hope he succeeds at Arsenal. And hey, if not, perhaps he'll re-sign when we reach the Premiership in the near future. 4) It's thanks to Markus Liebherr that this was possible - just two and a bit years ago, a player like Oxo would have been on his way for a lot less than the figure quoted. 5) There's no need to riot over this on the streets of Southampton... 6) I'm glad this whole saga has been laid to rest before the August transfer window has shut. (Although I would rather have seen it settled earlier in the summer.) 7) We still have Lallana, Fonte and Lambert, all of whom are more key to us at present. 8 ) Spend spend spend!
  12. Gutted to lose Oxo, if our aim is to be in the Premier League in two years or so, not only would he have got us there, he'd have lit it up for us too. That said we will be very quids in with this move, big money that's needed nowhere else but in the playing squad. While I don't envisage too many signings this month, January could be well interesting...
  13. Great win, all 3 goals were fantastic. I'd love to stay up for the FL show but I'm dead on my feet. I'll iPlayer it in the am as I'm pretty sure it WASN'T a handball. We shall see. Night all.

I thought Chaplow was the mutts nuts when he came on. He's probably the central midfielder that is most likely to get a goal for us, but playing predominantly on the right, I thought he slotted right in. With Cork able to play at the back, and Chaplow seemingly doing well on the right, it bodes well for our versitility in these times of 5 subs.
  15. Anyone know what the tatts on Lambert's arms say? We are definitely a very fit side. In the first half we closed down nearly everything, always harried after the ball, and still had enough in the tank to last the 90 minutes. If we keep this up, we will become a very difficult side to break down.
  16. I think your deserves a of it's own! I like Cortese. He has an air of mystery about him, an eerie quietness that will one day manifest itself as a touchline rant into a microphone. (a la Delia.) I get the feeling that if he were a poker player, he'd be bloody difficult to read. He's doing a good job, especially in the absence of a former friend. He has to be careful with the money, especially as it's not his. But secretly, deep down, I reckon he's a genuine Saints fan who was desperate to buy into his favourite club and had to persuade a money man to come on board! Mmm, vino. A cup win and a promotion - he must be doing something right.
  17. I loved the chants, they picked up really clearly on Sky. I can imagine the Skates crapping themselves at seeing how good we are. (When I say crapping themselves, I mean that stringy poo that comes out the back of goldfish.)
  18. ]My mates were talking to a Saints fan in a pub in Windsor today (shortly before I got there), and they said he had a 3-1 win bet. Come to think of it, Hatch, it wasn't you, was it? (Jammy bastard...)
  19. I'd like to mention that I'm relieved we're out the relegation zone. I wouldn't have liked to have played West Ham and Watford in League One next season.
  20. I might write a letter to HSBC. Last week I set up a standing order with the instruction that the money should come out on 01/08/2011 and every calendar month after that. There was then a box that asked me to spell it out. "The FIRST of AUGUST TWENTY ELEVEN and every calendar month after that". As I handed the form over, I told the counter clerk that I needed the money to come out on the FIRST of every month. She handed me a carbon copy of the standing order. I checked my account on Tuesday. No money had come out. I saw the same counter clerk lady who told me that I'D set it up to come out on the THIRD. Lying *****. She remembered me too, which pee'd me off a bit more. Now I have to amend the damn standing order. Thank God my landlord was understanding. Damn banks.
  21. Overall it sounds like the club selling the key player in the deal most often gets screwed over!
  22. Fusu backwards is Usuf. Usuf sounds like Yousef. Yousef el Nasri is a Spanish long distance runner. Samir Nasri is an Arsenal player that wants out. I conclude, it is Samir Nasri. I rest my case.
  23. We will walk this league. Seriously I think we have the squad to beat anyone already, and that's before any additions are made in August and January. Losing Oxo would be a blow, but I think overall people are being over-cautious. Look to finish first this season, anything else, bar relegation battles, is a good season.
  24. The six game deal actually seems like quite a good deal. I cannot visit SMS often enough for warranting a season ticket die to work, and even if I could I'm not sure I could afford it either. I visit SMS about 12 times a season, and that deal at Southampton would seem excellent value, especially as the local derby isn't excluded from the list of fixtures.
  25. The Puncheon offer from QPR for cash + Gorkss got me thinking whether player exchanges are a good idea or a bad idea. I see today in the BBC Gossip column that Tottenham are after Christopher Samba, and are offering cash and any of Defoe, Bassong, Keane or Bentley in exchange. At first glance, I would take all four of those as an exchange deal, but the wages and player's willingness to defer to Blackburn would have to be taken into account. I was racking my brains thinking about the times we have had a player exchanged for one of our players. We all reckon we got stiffed by Tottenham when we pulled off the masterstroke of getting Forecast in as part-exchange for Bale, but I remember at the time with the re-signing of Kevin Davies (and the loss of Ostenstadt) that it seemed like a good deal considering their ages and potential. Graeme Le Saux was a fairly decent stop gap for Bridge's departure to Chelsea too. Are there any more examples of a Saints player-exchange that I've forgotten, and do you think it is a good idea to sign a player in exchange that may not want to be here in the first place?
