  1. I seem to remember the programme that detailed his ancestory unearthed a scroll showing his royal lineage right back as far as God himself. In bow down before thee, thy holiness.
  2. My Mrs literally bumped into Clyne as she left work. They snuck in through one of the quieter entrances, as she turned a corner she encountered 15-20 blokes all in red trackies. Apparently young Nathaniel was quite the gentleman & apologised after checking she was ok. We had to go through the squad photos to determine who her assailant was. He now has a new fan. It's good to see them give up their time & try to save the poor pompey fan from a life of purgatory.
  3. I'm happy to be proved wrong on this, but if I recall my college days correctly, modern all-seater stadia are steeper than traditional terracing. I've had a root around the office & can't find anything to prove it either way, but I'm 90% sure I'm right. But if you take St Marys as an example, the step down is about 450mm and about 600mm wide, a gradient of 1:1.3, I reckon the steps on the old Milton Rd terrace were something like 1:4 (75mm rise & a going of 300mm). Like I say, happy to be proved wrong, but when I'm jumping around like a screaming banshee when SRL scores his first prem hat-trick, I'd rather fall 3 inches, than 18 .
  4. Current terracing design is not suitable for standing, and the cost of implementing it would probably be prohibitive for most clubs. If it does come in though, I'll stick with the seat, it was fine when I used to go as a young man with my mates, but I now go to footy with 3 kids & a 70 year-old, I know the kids will be safe & the old man can get out easily so he can get to the loo in time.
  5. I've been very impresed with him laterly, he had a shaky start but has come good in recent weeks, he needs a reliable partner though, I'm not sure Yosh is the man for that, although he's not done too bad himself recently. I have to admit I was in the camp that thought Jos would be our star defender & Fonte would be in the stiffs. That just goes to illustrate why I'm not a football manager.
  6. First I've heard of it. Sad news. I believe he had a hand in the mapping of the moon for Nasa. His enthusiasm about his field was truly infectious, and by all accounts a thoroughly nice bloke too. Rip Sir Patrick. Iirc he has a comet, or asteroid already named in his honour.

    Shaw

He looks very assured & he doesn't let himself get bullied. It's refreshing to see such a young lad happy to mix it physically with the grizzled old pros. I think he has a bright future, hopefully its here.
  8. Ah, I can now see how things are tough for you. Give these guys a ring, they may be able to give you some food, or a blanket to see you through the cold nights: http://www.salvationarmy.org.uk/
  9. I entirely agree, there is nothing more galling than the work-shy "playing the system", then complaining that they can't feed their kids, but can afford a Sky subscription etc. It's equally galling to hear the middle classes moaning on that they can't afford a second holiday, or put fuel in the wifes 4x4 because CB has been cut. Both of these groups need to cut their cloth accordingly. The benefit system is supposed to be a safety net, not to pay for luxuries. A household bring in over 50k, should be able to survive quite adequately purely on that income, without expecting to get government handouts.
  10. Exactly. Child benefit was originally designed to ensure that kids had resonable clothing & were fed, not to fund pony club outings or a holiday abroad, Anyone earning over 50 grand should be ashamed if they are claiming this.
  11. The royals do get a lot of molly-coddling, but it's not so in this case. This form of morning sickness can be quite dangerous, my Mrs had it with our first, she was chucking up almost hourly, severely dehydrated, and lost weight, she was un-able to eat or drink anything, even cleaning her teeth made her wretch. I took her to the docs, (a day I'll never forget, it was out wedding anniversary, but more importantly it was the day England stuffed The Netherlands at Euro'96, a match I've never seen ), within the hour she was in hospital fixed up to a couple of drips. She was in for 4 days.
  12. My collection is complete & thanks to the skill of the surgeon, cannot be added to.
  13. Another one to pay for.
  14. To be fair though, it was the same for Shilts "away" & "time" being his constant cries & tbh that should be all a top flight defender should need to be told.
  15. Best Bond Between Daniel Craig & Sean Connery, think I'll go for the old Scot tax dodger, although it's a close thing. Best film Live & Let Die, with Skyfall second Best baddie Blofeld, no one else comes close. Best car Dunno, DB5 or the Lotus. Would be happy to own either. Sexiest Bond girl (goody or villain) Tough one Jane Seymour, Britt Ekland or Babara Bach. Alway had a soft spot for Babs though.....oh man, almost forgot about Ursula. What a fantasy thay lot are (or were when in their prime). Best theme tune Between the classic Bond Theme, Nobody Does it Better, but Live & Let Die gets it.
  16. Maybe he's a realist & knows that our players are generally crap, and the backup players aren't up to it. In the words of the song (possibly), You can't polish a turd!
  17. As Jonnyboy says, be careful. From what I recall, (from about 20 years ago), the moisture content is measured by poking two small prongs into the wall & sending a charge between them, measuring the resistance. It's not particularly accurate & can be affected by numerous factors, one of which could be condensation, if this is the case, a new dpc won't stop it. An extreme example: my boss had to survey an empty house & was puzzled as to why he was getting such high readings in a particular corner of room, it turned out the cat of the previous owner wasn't particulary accurate when it came to using the litter tray, hence the high moisture reading.
  18. As Sammy The Saint isn't on the list, I'll go with Shaw, not sure how good his dancing is, but he was quality last night.
  19. Me too, but mine's the 10th.
  20. There's a gag here somewhere.
  21. Horsefly? They leave a big lump, but I'd have thought it too cold for them, as most insects, so that only leaves a vampire for this time of year.
  22. The Jam, Thin Lizzy, Led Zep.
  23. Barbara Bach back in the day: and more recently: (I think she's on the right)
  24. Really, fascinating? A mildly amusing anecdote may be, but if you find it fascinating then so be it. Thanks for pointing out how complicated life is, I was getting worried as I've managed to reach my mid-forties thinking it was really simple and smelling of roses.
  25. My taff mate revels in the sheep-sh@gger nick name. He sent out christmas cards last year showing a field of sheep, his quip inside said "I'm hiding in the trees with my wellies on & a spare pair in my hands, flossy is looking hot today". Fact is if you want to be insulted, you will be. If you take it in the spirit it's meant, it adds to the banter.
