  1. Was in the Milton, more-or-less behind the goal. Bloody hell, didn't he hit it. I can't remember which way the keeper went, but if he'd got a hand to it, he'd have been representing us in the Paralympics. The Ruddock legend was born (for me at least). Spoke to him once in the Frog & Frigate - Top bloke.
  2. Grew up in Bitterne Park, moved to Sholing when I got married, moved back to Bitterne Park (my user name should give a clue as to where) when the kids got to school age.
  3. Sounds vaguely familiar, but by the time I'd staggered that far I'd had a skinful, for all I know it could've been Disco Darrens Dance Emporium. As long as they served alcohol I was a happy punter. Did the Wykham Arms once, didn't stay long. It was partonised by men only. In every group was a Freddie Mercury look-a-like. Pints were downed hastily & we left by the back door - as it were.
  4. Same era as me, almost the same pubs, Home Tavern (Eastliegh), tinny on the train, Royal Oak, Jesters, Vine, Eclipse, Market, throw up around the back of Woolworths, the start again in The Bakers followed by The Guldhall & the one opposite (was it The Rising Sun?) to finish with a Burger in Champs. Back on topic, get my porn from the Newsagent (obviously not local to my home - just in case )

  6. Queen - Wembley Stadium 1986. My first ever gig. Got to about 20 yards from the stage. My ears were ringing for 3 days. I was getting seriously worried they'd been damaged.
  7. Not free any more: http://www.southampton.gov.uk/s-environment/householdwaste/large-items.aspx "As of 1 April 2008, fridges and freezers are no longer collected free of charge. Collection of up to two of these items will be charged at £25. Please note fridges/freezers are not included in the five items stated above." Best idea would be to do what every one else does, ie. dump them on a council estate, somewhere like the flower roads, where the Neighbourhood Warden will eventually dispose of them for you, obviously after evicting the pikeys who have made a home in them.
  8. From my point of view the answer to your question is - I don't know. Part of me longs for the youthful (for me anyway) days of crowd surges, great fun if your at the back, not so much if your at the front. I remember on some occasions, we would finish a match about 10metres away from where we started. Nowadays though, in the flush of middle age, with a dodgy back & shot knees, I don't think I could cope with that sort of excitement anymore, I would probably be sat on the bench seats under the West Stand. Two other reason why I wouldn't be stood on the terraces are family related: I've taken my kids since they were six years old at would be cr@pping myself if they got caught in a surge at that age, and my old man has started coming to matches, which is great, but he wouldn't be too keen in a crowd at the ripe old age of 70.
  9. Not all are pikies, the guy who sits in front of me at SM has been invited, he's an Estate Agent... oh yeah you may be right.
  10. Started in the Family Centre, going with my mates Dad. Dad had bought season tickets for them & my mate stopped going after about 3 matches, I don't think Dad could get in without a kid, so I was surrogate. When I became a big boy & went with my own mates, our spot was just to the left (as you look at the pitch) of the Milton goal, right in front of the crush barrier. Caused a few surges, but never became the victim of one. . Had a bloke behind us with the most annoying voice, who always had a "dew drop" dangling from his nose. Hadn't seen him for about 20 years, until a couple of years ago at St Marys when I heard that familiar voice again, long before I saw him.
  11. Fates or Skates
  12. Scared the crap out of me when I read the OP. Phew, it's only ( )Sheffield Wednesday. Good luck and enjoy the ride Tartanowl.
  13. Is it just this forum, or are they all the same? What started out as a respectful thread, about a man, unknown to most, but respected and fondly remembered by all, has deteriorated into a slanging match and a debate as to whether or not is disrectful to dress in a certain manner. Maybe those that wish to debate the rights & wrongs of wearing jeans, having hands in your pockets & the armchair shrinks who wish to pontificate on the psychological aspects of this course of behaviour, should move it to The Lounge. Thanks to those who attended for the write-ups.
  14. Cup win - Only 9 years old and I remember watching it with my Dad who was getting a tad excited, I couldn't understand what he was so excited about. I remember the parade the following day a lot better though. Keegan - Walking home from school when someone pulled up in a car next to me, he asked me if I was a Saints fan, when I said I was he told me Keegan had signed and I'd probably remember this conversation for the rest of my life, I thought he was a nutter, but it turns out he was right on both accounts. When I got home Mum was hanging the washing out & I told here that some wierdo in a car had said Keegan had signed, she just said "yeah I know, your Dad'll be pleased". Saints Man U - Playing footy for Windsor at Millbrook Rec. I didn't find out until I got home. Markus - Painting ceiling in the lounge. My youngest kept popping in to see how I was getting on, and I was getting a bit annoyed with him. Then I hear "Dad, Dad!". I replied with "for gods sake what do you want now". He said "Markus Leibherr has died, we haven't got an owner anymore". I just stood stunned for a few seconds, and asked if he was making it up. Sadly he wasn't.
  15. We have, however, played one game fewer.
  16. Is this for real? In the 5 minutes I've been watching (yes I know - too much time on my hands ) 3 groups of 4 people have crossed & had their photos taken. It must annoy the drivers with so many people constantly hanging around the crossing, but not actually using it.
  17. I think we should have some sort of permanent memorial to ML. What form it should take, I don’t know, and I’m not particularly bothered about, rename the road, stadium, a stand, commission a statue, bust, or whatever. Whatever is decided I will support it. I just think there should be something. If it wasn’t for the big fella, and if the reports at the time are to be believed, we wouldn’t be here now.
  18. Thankyou for saving our club in it's most desperate hour. Thankyou for giving me the best season I can remember for many a year at Saints. Thankyou for giving me the opportunity to take both my kids to see their team win a Wembley final. I will always remember the look of joy on your face, and the sight of you taking your own photos at the JPT presentation. With deepest condolences to your family. RIP Marcus, and thankyou.
  19. They've not removed caps since we were relegated from the Prem. I assume the cap removal rule was at the Prems insistance. Used to get around this by having a spare in my pocket.
  20. 333 in the lounge, 129 on the Saints board. Is something going on?
  21. Wasn't Dodds goal put down as an OG? When Pahars scored I jumped up & my phone fell out of my pocket breaking into small pieces.
  22. OMG I read the thread title as 'Pulis can handle the pressure".
  23. A good idea for some, but not for me. I like to collect the progs and read them before kick-off, (unless my kids read them first, in which case I read them when I get home ) printing off a pdf for future reference doesn't appeal to me. I guess I have the same feelings about buying music, I'd much rather buy a cd than download from the interweb. ps. I have programmes from every match I've been to right back to my first match in '78, except 2, those being Southend & MLT testimonial where I arrived too late & they'd sold out. If anyone has a spare copy of the latter I'm willing to be separated from my cold, hard cash for it.
  24. Manna from heaven?
  25. We (kids & myself) always give Ted a wave when passing in the car.
