  1. It was definitely almost full, 900 odd saints up there on a Tuesday which is impressive. How many are planning to go this year? We have Carlisle away in Mid-November, and Hartlepool away December 4th, looking forward to both, but i predict there will only be around 500 saints at each game.
  2. I thought it was ok, but nothing special, much like the film. If you enjoy the work of Shane Meadows try watching "Dead Man's Shoes" - quality film.
  3. I recall a game at the Dell v Leeds (or might have been west ham) when Le Tissier went to take a corner in front of the away fans in the lower east, they were giving him loads of abuse and as there was a delay in play Le Tiss just sat down on the wall and had a laugh with them.
  4. Fair point on Arsenal, but I think Germany has to be the ideal set up to aim for, most grounds, including "new stadia" have large standing ends which usually have very cheap affordable prices. I've been to several German league games and the atmosphere is usually top notch, great beer and sausages as well. They have kept their match going culture alive whereas in England with the exception of a few clubs vocal support is dying. There is no way I would go to away games regularly in the premiership unless prices came down, but as an interesting example there is still an element of supply and demand, I went to Fulham v Hull last year for £5, Blackburn charged £10 for tickets for their home game v Fulham couple of weeks ago, and Wigan charge £15 for a lot of games, which makes a mockery of the crazy prices that we now pay for league one football, i mean £23 for MK Dons away is a joke.
  5. He used to get loads of abuse from the lower east stand, not the type of booing that you lot probably associate now at st marys, but proper close up, hear every word abuse that really gets to players, think that is why the big teams hated playing at the Dell. and turkish is right, there were a few players who used to give it back and some of our fans went running to stewards to make a complaint. It happened once with Beckham as well. pathetic.
  6. yeah he isn't playing for a struggling championship team.........
  7. Whats the latest on ticket sales for this game? If we can get a win at yeovil tonight it would be good to see the crowd up to 25-26k. As for the rivalry their fans will be giving it the big one again in town being abusive to any saints fans who walk past yates, any of you who have a 'soft spot' for them should pop in and buy them a pint
  8. I've been using an enlargement pump for a few weeks now and i have to say it works wonders. I've promised myself if i pass the landmark of 3 inches i'll treat myself to a new blow up doll.
  9. Would be nice to go back to the atmopshere of those days the closest we get now is this -
  10. Not sure if you are making that judgement on fans you know who live in the south, but Liverpool are one of the better "big" clubs in terms of the fans who actually go to games, i'd back them over Chelsea any day. have a read of Boys from the Mersey and "here we go gathering cups in may" proper footballing city with a traditional support base as a core. The reclaim the Kop movement is also interesting.
  11. A mate of mine follows Fulham home and away, last year they did special deals for a number of less popular home games, he got me a ticket for Hull at home for £5 and CSKA Sofia at home in the Europa league was also £5. Last week they went to Blackburn away who only charged £10 for Adults (ok that was a one off for the game, but offer inc home and away fans) Wigan charged them £15 last season.
  12. as usual with this saints forum, no one actually going to the match then!
  13. some of you loons really crack me up. within the same post it is "cortese is a great businessman" and then "i hope he doesn't read this forum, this sort of criticism will scare him off" complelely contradictary viewpoints, if he is such a good business man there is no way reading what a few fans think will make any difference to him. I actually think he couldnt care less what the fans think. and even if the Liebherr's OWN the club, it still remains that the FANS are the club as without us there is nothing.
  14. exactly, and I am sure in Escape to Victory, Pele has a similar injury, and not only comes back on but also scores a superb overhead kick
  15. I agree, Istanbul is a great shout for 3-4 days , so much to see and do, take in the culture and history, really recommend doing a match while you are there, see what a real atmosphere is like. Napoli is a good choice, something a bit different, but can visit Pompeii, or go down the road to Sorrento or the ferry to Capri.

    Lads weekend away?

I went to Valencia on a stag do and was surprsied, a great place and very lively. Lots of good lively bars, the locals don't come out until about 10pm, Showgirls strip club not bad, but most of them were Romanian when i was hoping for some genuine Nelly Furtado look-a-like..... was more like Nelly the Elephant in the end !!
  17. Ha john smith you need to get some councelling you loon
  18. Did any of you watch spurs v arsenal last night? Oh when the spurs sung slowly was superb and a million times better than our effort of oh when the saints. if someone can get the youtube video and post it here i think some of our fans could learn a lot about how poor our support is compared to other clubs we should be aspiring to be like.
  19. How about this for an initiative? http://www.saintmirren.tv/articles/20100921/saints-singing-section_2233570_2161218 I particularly like the lines: "St Mirren Football Club are piloting an initiative to encourage fans to sing in support of the Buddies. With the introduction of our brand new all seated stadium, singing by the home support seems to have become quieter. The Club have therefore gone out of their way to help bring singing to St Mirren Park in a pilot scheme allowing supporters to stand but only whilst giving vocal encouragement in the shape of a song" Would like to see the Itchen Corner re-opened at St Marys with the words printed on the ticket "supporters can stand but only whilst giving vocal encouragement in the shape of a song"
  20. The atmosphere has been getting progressively worse at st marys for a few years now which is a real shame. The northam was great for the first few seasons but now has far too many women and kids who panic at the sight of a steward telling them to sit, hardly any decent songs now just oh when the saints on fast forward. I enjoyed standing in the itchen north for a while until the club decided to begin its clampdown on atmosphere and close that part of the ground, the small group left in block 4 are nothing in comparison. All in all it is a very sad state of affairs, we need to get promoted to get some bigger away followings down here as thats the only way the atmosphere will get going again.
  21. For those who like doing away games this is a decent website - http://www.footballgroundguide.com/yeovil_town/ I didn't drink near the ground last year, heard the pubs were packed but wouldn't worry about that too much this time as a) we wont have as many fans there and b) being a mid-week game quite a few will go straight to the ground so wont be that busy. I got a lift up to the ground from the pub, the away fans car park was right by the away end, easy to get into.
  22. Turkish mate, you would absolutely love England home games at Wembley nowadays, almost the entire crowd is "couples" who have painted a st georges cross on each cheek and spend a lot of time taking pictures of each other both inside and outside the ground. With the non-existent atmosphere in the ground these matches are truly depressing places to be now, and exemplify how sad and boring modern football has become. .
  23. Do I think he should be taxed heavily? 'kin right I do. Do I think he contributes anything to society? Do I fook, and, to be fair to him, nor does he. so those thousands and thousands of pounds of tax he pays every year which subsides the rest of society is not contributing?
  24. Cannot argue with that, very well put.
  25. i think they should put Cortese in charge of the treasury. Add on fees for people who don't put their rubbish / recycling in the right coloured wheelie bins. charge tourists for taking pictures while sightseeing etc etc we would soon pay off the deficit
