It may be me, but it seems that players who score own goals often make amends by also scoring at the right end. Chris Nicholl once took this to an extreme by scoring all four goals in a 2-2 draw (when playing for Villa).

Not vitriol, just frustration from a selfish point of view! He'll be fine, probably retire a billionaire in his thirties, with a shit load of trophies won with a club like Man City or Real Madrid. But he's almost guaranteed to miss out on the biggest prize of all, maybe never even play in any final tournament. Unlike Klose for example, who didn't speak of word of German until he was 8, but went on to 2 World Cup finals, winning one. Also one of the greatest goal scorers in WC history. He chose Germany as the country that could win something.

I see Norway have again failed to qualify for the finals of a major tournament. I hope Haaland and his Dad enjoy watching England playing in Qatar on TV next year.

Agree with most of that, except "we would probably have lost anyway". In fact we were arguably the better team and looking more dangerous after we equalised and before JWP was sent off. We'll never know of course, but Chelsea were running out of ideas until the sending off.

Fees were going up exponentially, and unless he had a serious injury I reckon we'd have got a lot more 12 months later, especially if he'd had another season with us of the quality he had from the beginning with Liverpool. Also, they (Liverpool) probably wouldn't be the only big boys interested. Of course we'll never know for sure.
