  1. For once even the French press are disgusted at how the goal was awarded and how undeservedly the French qualified for the World Cup. That is something I've never seen over here andb wouldn't be surprised to see a change of manager despite the qualification. I am really gutty for the Irish as they thoroughly deserved to win last night.
  2. Pity he hadn't said that in France where our local Club President has been banned for 2 months for calling an opposing player of effeminate poof. http://www.moneycontrol.com/news/world-news/montpellier-president-gets-ban-for-outburst_425277.html
  3. Shame we didn't go for former Saint Pelé as a replacement for Trotman. He's gone to Falkirk on a season long loan from West Brom. http://sport.stv.tv/football/138121-pele-insists-hes-not-the-striker-falkirk-are-expecting/
  4. Take care that the TVANTS links aren't geoblocked for the UK. There are a number of completely free links in good quality available. Just ensure you log on 10 to15 minutes prior to kickoff and not forget the actual internet kick off time will be several minutes delayed. http://www.myp2p.eu/broadcast.php?matchid=55323&part=sports
  5. Hats off to JustMike for the terrific write up on his meeting with Terry. Really interesting report and answers. Must say saintsmike25, if he's a real gent then he's changed from way back when he'd ask me to wash his car in return for an autograph. Age matures use all I guess and Terry remains one of the all time greats of football.
  6. What I can't accept in Dodd's appointment is that we had a far better option is appointing Michael Svensson. What's happened to the guy anyway? Or has he been overlooked because he was too close to Wotte's his name?
  7. Why would Saints, in a very precarious situation Saints were, want to give the money owed by Spurs and Stoke to the taxman? A far better arrangement was to trash out a Academy training program with the clubs for Forecast and Pullis to offset taxation.
  8. Sadly Dennis Wise is listed as favorite for the job. I certainly hope such an appointment won't come back to haunt us.
  9. David Burnside RIP In September 1962, Ted Bates signed him for Second Division Southampton for a fee of £18,000, making him Bates's third signing in 10 days (along with George Kirby and Stuart Williams). Burnside immediately became a fixture in the Saints side, alongside Terry Paine and John Sydenham on the wings and Kirby and George O'Brien in attack. He was adept at finding space with well-timed runs, and his passing skills were terrific. In the 1962–63 season Saints fielded the same line-up in 28 matches including all seven FA Cup matches as Saints progressed to the semi-final, going out 1–0 at Villa Park to eventual winners Manchester United, after an epic three match battle to get past Nottingham Forest in the previous round. In the first quarter-final replay against Forest, Burnside scored an 89th minute equalizer as Saints came back from a three goal deficit. In the second replay, at White Hart Lane he scored twice, including a rocket shot for the third goal as Saints finally defeated Forest 5–0.[3] The cup run was not matched in the league, however, as Saints finished the 1962-–63 season in eleventh place, although Burnside was the second highest scorer (behind O'Brien) with 14 goals. Despite a 6–1 victory over Charlton Athletic in the opening game of the 1963–64 season, Saints had dropped to the lower half of the table by mid-September. In the second victory of the season (2–0 over Newcastle United on 18 September) Burnside injured his knee and was out until mid-January, losing his place to John McGuigan. Although Burnside returned for a run of six games from mid-January to mid-February, including scoring in the 7–2 victory over S****horpe United on 29 January 1964, he was forced to sit out the remainder of the season, until the postponed final game of the season at home to Rotherham United in which he returned to score in a 6–1 victory (thereby helping Saints notch up 100 league goals for the season), with Saints finishing in fifth place. The following season, Burnside regained his place until he was surprisingly sold to Crystal Palace in December 1964 for £12,000. The proceeds went to partly fund the purchase of Jimmy Melia, who was to lead the Saints to the First Division a year and a half later. In his two years at The Dell Burnside made a total of 70 appearances, scoring 26 goals.
  10. Thank you Duncan for raising the subject as we approach the annual All Saints Day. I had not heard about his parting until I read your post so I am also grateful to be able to pay my respect to David's memory. Far from a fan's favorite at the time, my own feeling is that the guy tried too hard. Had he relaxed a little and not got stressed out things may have been better. He always gave 100% but the end result wasn't so always so great. I shall always remember him being introduced to the crowd after we signed him and dazzling everyone with his ball juggling skills before the game or at half time. He was said to be the best juggler of the ball of his day. Sorry to hear your former club and fans were unable to drop by to say farewell. Don't worry though, thanks to Duncan, I'm sure the supporters will give you a good send off at this years All Saints. RIP David Burnside.
  11. I shall have nightmares from listening to that. I see now just how horrific they were. Even worse was hearing the old man and mum trying to sing along with them. As Phil says, the younger generation should be forced into a month of Sunday night listening in order to understand what were had to suffer. I'm sure at that time there would have been something either on TV or the Radio were were deprived of but can't for the life of me remember what. Urgghhhh!!!
  12. Must have something to do with the old school background, T, as I too used to find "Journey into Space" real creepy as I listened under the bedcovers. I suppose you've added the following to you CD collection http://www.originaloldradio.com/journey_into_space.html Otherwise the Billy Cotton Band show was unbearable.
  13. Can we but hope that Marcus Liebherr needs a new depot or parking space for Liebherr vehicles and purchases Farton Dust Bowl for a pound, and merges the two clubs with Saints taking the Skates place in the Premiership. The Cherry on the cake would be the Skates requiring to apply for the Conference under the new ownership. Ah! What exciting times it is to be a Saints supporter again.

    Southend

This news makes very sad news. I've always had a soft spot of Southend and remember happy days in my distant childhood there. But more so, it shows just how sick the game has become when decent clubs like ourselves and others suffer so badly when the real profiteers and criminals of the big clubs get off scotfree. Let's tax the big transfer fees and give it back to the game and the small clubs who do all the hard work in training players. Alpine, you've not contacted me as I requested. Email me.
  15. Seeing is believing and I'm actually beginning to believe. A wonderful result and a goal for each time I posted. spanish saint can you please PM or email me for what you require. I cannot PM or post anymore today but will help you.
  16. Sue, you have mail and free TV in your mailbox. Come'on yer Saints!!!!
  17. As Registered member can't PM to you Sue but I've got the TV links you and Alpine want. Can you PM with an email address I can send you all the info.
  18. I am truly gutted Ron to learn your sad news and tragic loss of Chris. We all know just how much she has meant to you all these years. Rest in peace Chris. May the Lord bless you, keep you and make His Light to shine upon you forever. Sincerest condolances to you Ron, to all your family and loved ones. Remember, you are not alone. We Saints supporters hold a place most dear in all our hearts and we want you to know at this terrible time, that there is a home waiting here for you forever.
  19. ...........................Yawn....Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!
  20. Pathetic, ain't it? And some people ask why I'm not serious when I post anymore. Glad there are others that feel the same about how some just can't refrain from dredging up the dregs from the bottom of the cesspit. Cesspit trollops, all of them.
  21. The mind boggles to what Saint Charlie was referring to as big and strong where Kayne McLaggon is concerned. Maybe he has had visions of a Kenwyne Jones in the making as opposed to a Nathan Dyer.:smt041
  22. The thing about Gillett is that he is a useful utility player to have in the squad. We still have a long season ahead and there will be injuries sooner than later. Generally it's the same folk who slagged off the likes of Kevin Davies, Scott MacDonald who lay into a player like Gillett. I'm not saying he's superman but I do believe as washsaint says that he's not been treated well. It's one thing being small and having more than the average player to prove himself but to be messed about just cos Pas Dieu wants to remove all previous squad players is another. When Pas Dieu begins to consistantly put out teams who come back with the points, I might change my opinion. The only difference with Burley is that Pas Dieu has an open cheque book to bring in his mercenaries and pensioners. These are not long term signings but fill in the crack band aids to play in League One.
  23. Gillett can play many roles and a good manager would be able to take that in. Gillett is the type of player that a decent team needs in their squad. Whereas I understand our manager believes in height and muscle in League One, I fail to understand just how Pas Dieu, like Burley before him, has been able to knock all spirit and enthousiasm out of the guy. And for those who think I've changed from referring to Pas Dieu, I say, think again. Two wins don't make a play off place. I used his common name this morning maybe because age is showing itself and in the morning I wasn't feeling my usual self. Pardew is Pas Dieu and until he proves otherwise which I believe will never be, I shall continue to refer to him as such. I shall be more careful in future not to allow my guard to slip. Afterall, I wouldn't want any of these so called Pas Dieu worshippers get the wrong idea.
  24. I think he's been treated abmismally since Pardew arrived. He's one player you could say was a Saint and not a mercenary. He deserves better and may Driscoll knows a Saint when he sees one. Anyone know if he'll be taking with him the photo gathering dust in the store cupboard since the takeover?
  25. SaintJackoInHurworth you are indeed a gentleman and a scholar for posting such an eloquent reply for those to whom football is their religion.
