  1. If we can get a decent amount for him up front AND a large percentage for a sell-on, then let him go....we're going to lose him eventually anyway (even Utd couldn't keep Ronaldo...), why not cash in now and utilise that extra cash to strengthen the team in a few areas for next year when we really need to aim for a top 6 spot. My biggest fear in selling him, though, is that all the other clubs who have players we are interested in will sudden'y double their price if they know we are "cashed up" from his sale.
  2. In my opinion, he's a funny guy who does his bit for charity and who is also a fervent Saints fan. I don't get why so many people try and knock him all the time. Can somebody enlighten me, or is it just jealousy that someone from Millbrook can actually make a decent living for themselves (and no, I'm not from Millbrook).
  3. I think this coming season represents a great chance to build on the momentum we have, and push for a promotion place - but personally, I would prefer to consolidate for a year, and hope some of our more promising players come through. I think we are going to lose AOC anyway - it's just a matter of when. I'd love to see Saints in the Premiership - but with a mixture of home produced players in with all the mercenaries that will come our way and be gone as soon as they get a better contract offer and if that means waiting a year or two then so be it. Having said that....I'm coming back to the UK for the Olympics next year, and if I can time my visit for our triumphant return to the premiership as well, then I could live with that too! lol
  4. A technicality I know...but I don't think Nichol was sacked, he just didn't have his contract renewed. Same end result though. Shame he had such a dour image as I thought he did a pretty decent job.
  5. prices look good, but you might want to spell check the page.... "Other desitinations"
  6. So many to choose from. I guess it depends on things like your budget, your "style" of game (big hitter but can't hit straight??....god short game?), and how far you want to travel. If you're looking close to the Rose bowl, then Meon Valley isn't too far away and always used to be a good challenge. If you just want the best, don't mind a 45 minute drive (and can afford it and find a way to get on) go to Remedy Oaks. I would say you have a choice of maybe 20 courses within half an hour though
  7. oh, the irony....lol.....surely commenting on something pointless is pointless in itself??
  8. Wow!!!....really???? Beam me up Scotty!! (always wanted to say that!)
  9. To win the league! - but that of course is without knowing how much our Nige has in his "war chest". With the right investment there is no reason why not. Ask me again a week before the season when we have more idea of what the team will be for the 1st game.
  10. I wish I could see some of it, but if I was back in the UK I am sure I would love the Championship. League 1 has been good to restore the confidence and rebuild the club (and of course, winning a trophy!). The standard of officials have been poor, so hopefully we will notice in improvement there next year. Although I want Saints in the Premiership....in its current format I really quite despise it and most of the player who play in it. The wage levels are obscene, there is very little loyalty between clubs and players. Hopefully by the time we get there the bubble may have burst and those who spend way above what they earn may have gone bust....
  11. Anyone know when the 2012 season starts? I'm coming over for the Olympics in August 2012 and might need to extend my stay in order for me to see our first game back in the Premiership! lol
  12. The trouble with any of the names mentioned who are already established premiership players is that their wage demands will be ridiculous and if we give in to them we either have to upgrade everyone else's salaries or risk an unsettled squad. The only exception would be if we could attract an exceptionally high calibre player who might be close to the end of their career (a Scholes or Giggs would be nice, but I know I'm dreaming). I'll be please if we sign 2 or 3 new players and personally, the only player I would love to see here would be CMS, but I think either Barnard or Connolly would have to go if that was the case. I do feel we need someone classy with a bit of steel in midfield to compliment the likes of Lallana and AOC though. It's going to be an interesting Summer! (or winter for us Australian Saints...)
  13. Alan Shearer's full debut against the Arse....scored a hattrick and ran himself into the ground and was subbed to a standing ovation after about 70 minutes
  14. I don't know much about Saints before I started watching them in the early 70's but since then... 1. Keegan - for shock value and putting Saints back on the map 2. Peter Rodrigues - stability in defence and FA Cup captain 3. Alan Ball - past his best but brought the best out of Stevie Williams amongst others 4. Dave Armstrong - so under-rated. As good defending as he was in attack. The complete left midfielder 5. Peter Shilton - at the time STILL the best goalie in the country. If only Keegan had stayed another season...... 6. Dean Richards RIP...one great season and then a massive profit in selling him to Spurs - LOVE IT!! 7. Claus - 10 years? great service and a constant steadying influence at the back 8. CMFG.....brought the best out of Bridgie and earnt us a fortune as a result -and he was a legend himself! 9. Super Marian??? - kept us in the Premiership, along with Matty, for an extra few years 10. Rickie Lambert - a bit sneaky, but I am including him on the strength of his goals in the next 10 or so games that sees us promoted back to the Championship!! The memories are starting to fade a little now I am only following from afar, but every one of those made an impact for me, anyhow, but I am sure there are plenty of others I have forgotten....
  15. so you don't think Lallana got a decent pay rise out of his new contract?
  16. I THINK I enjoyed going to last years JPT Final - but it's in the past so I've wiped it from my memory bank as nothing else matters other than the next game.
  17. How many of those Brighton players would you want in our team? - and who would they replace? As long as we end up in the top 2 I don't give a rats arse about Brighton. I know which team I would back in the Championship next year (well, I'd back Saints over Brighton any time and any league, but that's just blind faith...lol). I don't believe they have a better manager either. Out of curiosity, any idea how the table would look if you just took the results since Adkins became Manager?
  18. .... but (Sheffield) Wednesday weren't even on the list! (har har)
  19. those young kids watching on tv could be among our next generation of fans. If we pulled of the biggest upset of the decade so far (it is only 2011 after all....lol), we might give them reason not to be amongst the plastic mancs fans of the future!
  20. It's nice to know.....but does it make any real difference to us whether we know beforehand or not? What advantage is there for Saints if they DO announce injuries beforehand?
  21. Last year I never truly believed we would go up, and was more than happy to put everything in to our cup runs....this year is different. If we don't go up, I feel sure the team will break up as some of the players are too good for this league. That being the case, as long as we don't get humiliated, I really don't care what team we put out for the FA Cup this year. Stuff the extra revenue - we'd make that and more through increased gates (and prices...), tv revenue and sponsorship next year
  22. I don't think there is much doubt over his talent - it's his attitude and application that stinks. I've only seen a snapshot of his performances, but from what I saw.....he doesn't have the bottle for a fight and his head goes down too quick
  23. Here's an idea. Every time a player has a bad game we buy a replacement. Eventually we will have all the good players so we will HAVE to win every match then...won't we??? Then we will steam through the leagues and after that win the European Cup! I find it mildly amusing the way everybody wants to get rid of someone after a bad game. A few weeks back Jaidi was "immense" and Davis was a hero for saving a penalty. The fact is, we are a typical L1 team. When all our good players are in the side, and they have their heads in the right space, we will beat any other team tin this league. Unfortunately, the reason MOST of the players are in this league, is because a) They really aren't that good and b) They think they are better than they are. As a consequence the results are erratic to say the least. For what it's worth, I would like to see a small turnover of players in January. Maybe get rid of some deadwood (the usual suspects...Forecast, Pulis, Holmes, Wotton), and if possible bring in an aggressive midfielder and a speedy goal poacher - but I would think that most Div 1 teams are looking for the same.
  24. Are we caught in the trap of building a team to do well in the Championship, rather than one to get us out of League 1? I do have rose-tinted specs, but I look at our team and player for player we always look to have a better side out than the team we are playing - but if they're not prepared to roll their sleeves up and get stuck in we will get rolled over by sides that WANT to win, and that play as a team. From what I've read about our team on Saturday, we were way too complacent.
  25. How do you know we haven't had offers from "bigger" clubs? We've been told we're not a selling club, so why should we sell him (or even publicise the fact)
