Lens call for potless Pompey to be shut down
beatlesaint replied to hottubsaint's topic in General Sports
If the Premier League have difficult questions to answer be prepared for them to do all they can to help out Pompey. They would rather do that than face any unwanted probing into how they work. -
I remember at the Evening with Lawire Mac and co, when talking about the game they were arranging that was ultimately scrapped, Lawrie said the money raised would go into a seperate bank account so that the money would not get swallowed up and lost within the club's exisitng accounts/debts. In the end of course anyone who bought a ticket was given the choice of their money back. I suspect, having already donated, many took that opportunity so the money from that sadly failed effort is probably accounted for. BUT, its the things like the bucket collections, the Saints Aid Day, the granny with her £500 etc - how much was collected in total and where did it go ?
-
Many of the donations were collected BEFORE the end of last season and that was some time before Southampton FC even appeared on ML's radar. Other donations followed during May, again before they became involved. As the period of exclusitivity was awarded by Mr Fry to Pinnacle instead of ML then you can argue that their involvement came much later, even though they may have been watching from a distance whilst the Pinnacle thing was playing out its pantomime. Would ML and NC even have known about the bucket collections, Evening with LM, MLT and MC etc etc ? I think its an excellent question - what did happen to the donations, how much did it total, what were they used for - and I think each and every one of us who donated deserves an answer, but I'm not sure it is a question or questions ML and NC could answer.

Thats a very good point, but the press will only turn on their darling Harry if he becomes no use to them. So if the court case for taxes goes badly for him and he is locked up, loses his job and his famous "rent a gob" falls silent for a few months/years ( ) then they will turn on him, but not before.

There is ambition and there is attracting the sort of players you and the rest of us want to the club whilst in League 1. Anyone from the Championship (or higher ? ) joining now will have to look and say to themselves "realistically this is 18 months in League 1 at least". Yes we could reach the play offs but even if we do that is a lottery so realisitcally we are looking to go up automatically next season. If a player hasn't got the intelligence to work that out his agent/advisors will and unless the wages are really good they wont come here, and why should NC/ML pay out top wages to players that wont set the world alight in the Championship ? Build a team to get out of League 1, build a team to get out of the Championship, build a team to stay in the Premiership.....and they have a 5 year plan to get us back there ? Don't see how that lacks ambition to be honest.

You still here ? You had had a gutfull of Saints in the summer and were off to Arsenal yet you seem to still be heading for St Marys. I do hope this post is a wind up, you were bored, couldn't think of anything to write so thought you would stir the pot a little.....cos if you really think this then, oh dear oh dear. Had you taken up your Arsenal option no doubt you would have called for that little Spanish midfielder to be dropped

I think its fair to say AP taking Mills off Saturday was a tad more than just tactical then !
-
SShhh ! You know who may be lurking ready to formulate an 80 page reply to that dont you ?
-
Exactly. If we are in with a chance of the play offs come Easter people need to remember its a bonus for this season, its not part of the 5 year plan to reach them this year. A trip to Wembley in the JPT would be a nice bonus too !
-
You tease Duncan He fckin was !
-
aye ! some people will want to slash their wrists or string up AP if we lose what is a difficult game today but we only need to win 13 out of 23 (or 22 if we lose today) to get to the magic play off usual total points tally so like you say, Bring It On !! and welcome back
-
Interesting that a couple of people have Mills in the team to play. After Saturday i would be very surprised if he started to be honest, unless AP is throwing down a challenge to him !
-
Yes, remember it well. I mentioned on here how poor he was in that game, how he looked totally un-interested and wasn't listening when Harding was telling him to give him some protection......and I got slagged off something chronic by a couple of posters who wouldn't have it !! Glad you remember it the same as me
-
Absolutely. Thomas or Lancashire ? Its a bit of a no brainer
-
Being rested for Monday I would imagine. He wouldnt be able to play two games in three days.
-
Well yeah but he could have taken Antonio off if itwas just to change the game plan. Been very disappointed with Mills when I have seen him this season. He might be ok as cover for Harding but he isnt much cop as a left sided midfield player.
-
Interesting that your respond to everybodys reply with the exception of Torrent of Abuse's, in the way you normally do with your multi-reply sweep. I wonder if he has made more than one very good point which even you cannot argue with ?

Supposed to be in the summer isn't it ? The club have said there is no hurry in the appointment.

Well this thread has gone off into the land of farce and veered well away from the point, and no sight of 19 Canteen to blame I cannot believe some of the comments on here - God like worship of NC and ML etc etc - do people remember last June/July when we were in danger of losing this club ? There is a line between being grateful and hero worshipping and it seems too many cynics on here are taking the gratitude many express and twisting it into some form of blind worship. FFS get over yourselves. These 2 guys have come in, saved the club, put it on an even keel and have installed enough spirit and good things to have staff smiling again, a manager and coaching staff who seem to know what they are doing (unlike some previous managers/head coaches), players looking like they want to play for each other and be here and an upturn in numbers coming through the turnstiles. Apart from a spat with the Echo, which some seem to use as a stick to beat NC with, probably cos there hasn't been much else to criticise him for (unless we count the old argument about the bloody beer), its been a case of so far so good, better probably than a lot of us could have hoped for. If we hadn't had a "Christmas message" then some would have said that was wrong, dont they care about the supporters etc etc. So when he writes one we see smart arse comments like "does he think he's The Queen" !!! Oh please. NC and ML - keep up the good work, the vast majority appreciate it.
-
If you are really (un)lucky he will give you a long and rambling response as to why he isn't But you are right.....and i will be accused, by him, of jumping on your bandwagon
-
I agree he looks dangerous, helps the full back more and about his long throws being a bonus but I do believe that recently we haven't seen him run directly at the opposition as much as when he came into the team originally......and he needs to do that cos the potential is certainly there.
-
Problem with Antonio in the last few games I have seen is that either he, or the rest of the team, have forgotten his strength. Deliver the ball in front of him so he can use his pace to skin the full back or centre half. At the moment he is trying to play too much football, is trying to beat his man with skill rather than pace, and at present he isn't quite good enough for that. It will come, he is only 19, but his major asset and the thing that frightens the opposition is his electric pace. IMHO he should go back to concentrating on that, especially when he comes on as a sub for the last 20 odd mins when they are flagging anyway.

Oh dear, how sad, never mind. A guy who works for my wife used to work in the local tax office and he has said on several occasions that they were watching Mr Redknapp's activities very closely over the years. Looks like the chickens have finally come home to roost
