sotonjoe Posted 8 July, 2009 Share Posted 8 July, 2009 You mark my words! How long before the first 'fan' complains that sugar daddy isn't investing enough or that results aren't good enough? Time for all fans to remain as level headed as possible with regards to our expectations for the seasons ahead.
saints_is_the_south Posted 8 July, 2009 Share Posted 8 July, 2009 Agreed. I for one am just overjoyed that i have a football club to support & watch next season & for the long term future, everything else can go on the back burner for now! stevegrant Posted 8 July, 2009 Share Posted 8 July, 2009 I'm not expecting him to put any money into the club right now. He's bought the club and rescued it, which is about as much as any of us could have asked for. As far as I'm aware, we now have no debt, which frees up nearly £5m a year which can now be utilised elsewhere.

Even at slightly reduced tix prices the revenue will be up on last season. Couldn't get any worse. and reduced wage bill.
RedAndWhite91 Posted 8 July, 2009 Share Posted 8 July, 2009 We won't get promoted straight away, I'm just happy to have a club to support, and no more worrying!

sussexsaint Posted 8 July, 2009 Share Posted 8 July, 2009 I have very low expectations - I just hope we are not relegated next season but compared to a week ago I am just happy we will not be playing Blue Square next season. I wou ld like to start seeing us building a decnet team in the next few weeks though and it would be great if there was anything we could do to keep our captain

Minsk Posted 8 July, 2009 Share Posted 8 July, 2009 I don't expect us to sign anyone with a transfer fee. If we sign Murty and JPS (and maybe one or two others) on frees, offer contracts to a few whose contracts have run out and bring in a couple of decent loans, I think we will do okay this season. Son of Bob Posted 8 July, 2009 Share Posted 8 July, 2009 He's just invested £12.5m of his own money, thatll do me for now! I think it amounts to a lot more than that once he's paid off the debts as well! Giving the club a clean slate has already made him a legend in most peoples eyes. Anyone expecting Abramovic style spending is a tad unrealistic!

SW11_Saint Posted 8 July, 2009 Share Posted 8 July, 2009 I think most of us are thinking like ML himself - that this is a long term project now and one that probably needs to build slowly. As MLT said on SSN, given our starting point this year an mid-table finish should be all we expect, if we go further, then great. I think most fans think the same way. I'm just looking forward to thinking about football again, rather than business. For the first time in about 5 years I feel optimistic about Saints. How good a feeling is that?!? Fitzhugh Fella Posted 8 July, 2009 Share Posted 8 July, 2009 Really? Nice! Because we got out of our debts cheaply is the reason why the FL set a 10 point punishment.

Son of Bob Posted 8 July, 2009 Share Posted 8 July, 2009 Because we got out of our debts cheaply is the reason why the FL set a 10 point punishment. I didn't realise it included the full mortgage as well though. Almost worth the 10 point deduction I'd say!

Works out that for the club has saved £1.5m for every point deducted. Good result in my opinion!

EBS1980 Posted 8 July, 2009 Share Posted 8 July, 2009 I don't think he needs to spend a fortune on transfer fees. There are plenty of good free transfers out there, Murty, Lita, Danny Webber to name just three.
saints_is_the_south Posted 8 July, 2009 Share Posted 8 July, 2009 My wish list for the new owners during the coming weeks would be: Season tickets on sale by weekend at good prices to reflect the division we are in. Kelvin Davis to be offered a new contract & be made club captain. Offer Stern John new contract assuming he can prove his fitness. Persuade Rasiak, Thomas & maybe even Saganowski to stay. Unlikely that all 3 will but 2/3 would be awesome! Sign JP Size & Graeme Murty permantly.
wightman35 Posted 8 July, 2009 Share Posted 8 July, 2009 You mark my words! Time for all fans to remain as level headed as possible with regards to our expectations for the seasons ahead. You are so right, but today we can all be happy. The reality is that survival at league 1 this Season will be acceptable, yet I am as always in July "optimistic" and maybe with the impetus of this renaissance of the Club we will even with-10 get a play off. Under Weststand Posted 8 July, 2009 Share Posted 8 July, 2009 I'd be more than happy if he stabilises the club this year puts a smile on our faces & starts winning some games. He the puts in place the board staff ect to start moving us forward for next season. As the late George Reader (ex-saints Chairman) once said make haste slowly. This season is all about putting the building blocks in place for me.
