Not on the website yet, but in today's Echo it says that WGS is not on the shortlist.

No names mentioned as to who is, but will be people with lower league experience. Expect an appointment next week.

Sensible really unless it is Tony Adams.

Surely they must know that Tony Adams would cause problems because 1. he is a ****e manager (proven) and 2. he has massive pompey links. I'd like to think that the new guy's advisors would warn him. Or does Adams have mates in the new background team?

Counts for NOTHING in this sort of decision.

Hr. Liebherr isnt a billionaire on the back of making such emotional judgements.

After the hysteria and good vibes this week I feel the new appointment is likely to be a real disappointment. Things never stay great for long when you’re a Saints fan so it is bound to take a down turn at some point.

Despite most wanting someone like Strachan you have to be honest and ask yourselves why he would want to come back to a club like Southampton. If he wants a return to football at some point I am pretty sure there will be plenty of Premiership clubs interested in signing him up.

Sorry for the gloom it is not intentional just a major dose of realism on my part. The way I look at it I expect the worst and anything above is a bonus then. So it has to be Tony Adams IMHO

I'm still on cloud nine. I sure the club will make the right choice of manager. Whether that be WGS or someone like Tisdale. Can't wait for the season to start. Bring it on.....

Names from lower league

Paul Tisdale Exeter

Peter Taylor Wyconbe

Keith Hill Richdale

Alan Knill Bury

Mark Robins Rotherham

Andy Scott Brentford

Paul Simpson Shrewsbury

I think these names are more likely than bloody Tony Adams!

Me I'd like Sean O'Driscoll linked with Eddie Howe. Previous success in this league, good to watch, plus South Coast connections

Just said on SSN that Express is saying Strachan is top of the shortlist!!!

Journalistic licence. What they meant was that Strachan was top of TSW's shortlist.

These guys seem wise and they are professional businessmen with International Experience. I am pretty certain that they will have a great deal of experience in interviewing and selection of senior critical staff.

Which means that they have nothing to prove, they have no need to bring their ego into the equation are not "long term fans with their own ideas of what has gone wrong" and what should be done and will not being trying to impose revolutionary new systems.

They will simply use proven existing HR systems and experience to create a short list, professional Top Grading style interview techniques, will seek out references.

And then see what the customer wants

There is also Steve Cotterill you can add to that list !

Depend who is selecting, and how they are going about the process. It seems unlikely that Markus Liebherr will deploy part of the Mali Group HR dept. to undertake the process you have described and might be reguarded as standard in business or industry.

Its more likely that Oldknow, and Cortese are drawing up a shortlist to present to ML.As Cortese has not been in the UK with a football club that long we might be dependant on Oldknow's knowledge, experience and judgement here.Let us hope he has canvassed some views from MLT !

Finally, and a small point, can we go back to being supporters rather than "customers" now that Lowe has gone ?

This reminds me of excitedly opening a christmas present at the age of 7 and finding that the action man I'd been given wasn't the talking one with the bionic eye. What a let down than Christmas was after promising so much.

And the turkey was dry FFS

oh well

back to the real world...peter taylor would not be a bad bet

Its all very well saying "back to the real world" but the real world means you need a manager who knows this league and knows how to get out of it.

The big name manager can be for the premiership if/when we get there.

What would be the point of appointing a big name who has no clue about this level of English football ?

And lets just think about this - we are excited cos we have a wealthy owner after years of crap BUT a big name manager will look and say to himslef "league one, minus 10 points, do i want to risk my reputation ? "

Had we been Championship then yeah, fair enough, a big name may well see the bigger picture.

But bottom of League 1 is a hell of a journey back to the big time...... 2 years minimum IF everything went right (getting into play offs this season and winning them)

2 years is a long long time in the life of a football manager.

If the Action Man resembled Tony Adams there would have been no point even taking the bastard out of the box.

If we're looking for lower league experience then that's not a bad shout at all. Plays the game the right way too.

BTW if he's not on the manager's short list I assume that Strachan is still on short manager's list.

Why?

The more I think about it, it has to be WGS.

Why would the club invite WGS to Staplewood and why would WGS go there. If it's not true, why wouldn't the club deny it.

I'm sure that AO must be media savvy enough to know the frenzy it would cause and the easiest way to quell the excitement would have been to deny that WGS was at Staplewood, even if he was there on the off chance.

In my mind it has to be WGS otherwise, what is the point?

Paul Simpson best option on the list for me.

Yes partly.

+ Wife and house down here.

+ Knows how well respected and liked he is here.

+ We can afford him

+ Will have fan support and if he calls for patience we'll give it to him

+ Saint Markus is clearly no fool

+ No denial by WGS or the Club

Mind you it's a useful one to keep on the front burner and not deny whilst selling STs.

Something tells me he might be thinking about it.
