More players to come

Hopefully the Poles will leave, and we will sign another high-league one class LUMP of a CB, one CREATIVE winger and one SPEEDY striker.

If we do not do this we are in trouble of relegation. Although, it seems that even if we had the best players in the world, we would probably still be relegated, as they wouldn't be able to "gel" or more likely because they have the disfortune of wearing the cursed red and white stripes.

Looks like something has changed over the weekend as AP's comments reported by The Echo are different to what he was saying on Saturday when he used the word dysfunctional about his ability to shape the squad. Maybe the home draw with Brentford, after the poor performance at Swindon, has persuaded Marcus that AP can't wait to see what happens to Rasiak and Saga before he can bring in more players. The window closing takes away the luxury of waiting to see.

Can't really comment on how we've looked so far (as tonight is my first match), but given our results today (and people's feedback on here) it looks as though Pardew clearly recognises there still is much work to do.

Although I'm sure we would have liked it sewn up before the season started considering the nightmare of a closed season that we had then maybe it's no surprise it's dragged on a bit.

I see this season as stabilising the rot and building for a concerted promotion push next year.

Radio Solent this morning said that a certain player would be missing from tonights team as he was in discussion with another club regarding a transfer and that "fringe" players would be given a chance to prove themselves tonight.

Yesss at last Kelvin Davis is leaving!

Promotion this year has never been a realistic aim with the -10. Last season in Div.1, of the top teams, if you take off 10 points, only Leicester would have made the playoffs. So it doesn't really matter how well we do this year except obviously we have to bridge the growing gap to avoid relegation. Without a couple more players this isn't certain, so its encouraging that AP is being allowed to look.

Looks like more new signings even if the poles stay:

http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/4562812.Pardew_expects_transfer_movement/

Who might they be? My guess would be a winger, central defender and a striker should one or both of the poles leave. Hopefully Simeon Jackson.

Strange ... ???? on another thread, AP intimated that he could only bring more players in .... AFTER he had sold some ........

... I would have thought the "Budget" would have allowed him to get more than he has ..... I'm sure that many on here thought that Mr Leibherr would have funded AP more than is apparent ???

We NEED more NEW players ........ Getting rid of the Poles was always going to be difficult ..... to compensate for their inflated wage demands, we will most likely have to give them a way for peanuts .. IMHO

Personally I'd have let both of the Poles go on free transfers to get them off the wage bill so we could bring in new and hungry players that want to be here

I have a feeling we might go back in for Tom Craddock from Luton to give us some pace upfront - plus he's a proven goalscorer at this level

I'd also let Wotton leave on a free (Brighton were interest at some point I think)

Chris Hackett from Millwall would be my choice for right wing - real pace and he can cross the ball!

I still think we need some bite in midfield - Prutton would certainly give us this.

I also think we will get some players in on loan from the Championship or Premiership once the tansfer window has closed and the loan window is open. Probably be a mixture of young and old players on the fringes of teams. Couple of Arsenal's youth players would be nice!

Baird from Fulham on loan perhaps to cover at right back, centre back and central midfield?

Andrew Davies on loan from Stoke would be my first choice for centre back? Surel they still owe us a favour or two for Junior Pulis!

The return of two former players of the season would be a boost for the whole club - but particularly the fans.

something we are incapable of doing?

judging on results so far i would have thought so? they got off to a flyer, winning matches early on, we just keep losing.

anyone who genuinely expects promotion this year is fooling themselves im afraid

I think he was alluding to the possibility of not being able to offload Ras and Saga, being stuck with them and having to use them. It would be foolhardy of Cortese to sanction replacement players with these two still on the wage bill (in any business). Not that we couldn't afford it, just that we would have deadwood, not playing, eating into the wage budget and having a negative affect on the rest of the playing squad.

Why exactly would he dop two leagues to be cover? I doubt either him or Davies would come back if we promosed a parade on their return

Baird came on for Fulham (70 mins) against Chelski few days back - I agree he aint gunna drop down to div 1 when he is on the fringe of the Fulham 1st team.

That would be the same Baird who played against Chelsea in the Premier League at the weekend? Yeah, realistic IMO.

No, but I dont think he really thinks it will happen, it's just a tool to motivate players, you always aim high, he was hardly going to say im aiming for mid-table this year lads

Maybe not ... but it COULD happen still .......... The most elusive thing is OUR FIRST WIN .... once that happens, I think it could ease the pressure, and we would start winning regularly

AP's BIGGEST problem is the fact that he inherited players used to LOSING, and he somehow has to change the Mindset to WINNING .....

Not easy ........ as we can see .......

Not so. The team finishing 6th had 76 points, therefore a team on -10 would have needed 86 points to make the play-offs. This was achieved by Leicester, Peterborough and MKDons. Additionally, Leeds would have made it if they had started on only -10.

I actually believed after ML came in that the play-offs was a realistic possibility. It looks less so now, but it IS still possible.

And of course AP realises there is still work to be done - 2 points from 12 - would anyone be happy with that and think the job was sorted?

If Leeds can over-turn a 15 point deduction then we should be able to over-turn a 10! Simples

Arsenal went the whole prem league season unbeaten why cant we? Man Utd did the treble so should we?

Its really that "simples" is it? Leeds got off to a flying start and maintained good form for large chunks of the season, looking like a team that would get out of the league from the off. Do you really think the same applies to us?

I've read the link.

Actually, it doesn't say there will be more signings even if the Poles stay.

It says he thinks there will be movement in and out.

It doesn't mention the Poles.

We have been hearing "more signings" for about a month now... Still... Keep the faith!

And in the course of that month we've brought in 6 new players and it looks like there are a few more - probably 2 or 3 - in the offing.

Its simples as in it can be done - keep reading posts where people say "it's laughable" and people are "foolish" if they believe this season is anythink other than a rebuilding season.

I don't agree - its possible to make the play-offs and Leeds have proved that.

My take on it was that Pardew had to offload some players BEFORE he could bring any in ......... which, IMHO, is very NEGATIVE from Leibherr/Cortese

.... ie If the Poles STAY ..... no more signings .... and we will not do well with what we have currently got .... it's only HALF way there IMHO:cool:

I see AP says he is looking forward to the window closing me to the sooner we get shot of whoever is going the better would be great to get 2 or 3 in everyone can see we need somone to provide width and sevice for Lambert and a bit of pace to play up front and make use of the flick on's and knock down's provided by Lambert and some more cover at centre back I am looking forward to having a settled squad and Pardew playing HIS team then we can start to judge how we are doing and if progress is being made

Not true. If they stay, no more strikers!!!

But neither of them have exactly set the division alight yet. I think if they stay its because noone else wants them - which says alot about them really. We can only hope that they take this rejection positively and that they work doubly hard to improve their saleability in the next window. If not then we are stuck with sulky rather than silky players, whose negativity will inevitably continue to poison the team spirit that AP undoubtedly wants to create.

They/ve not really been given too much opportunity. What was it 10 minutes for Ras and 5 for Saga against Swindon. I don't believe Saga actually touched the ball. OK Saga got more time against Brentford but its difficult to score goals from the bench
