Matthew Le God Posted 19 September, 2009 Share Posted 19 September, 2009 Pompey will struggle to get that many for most Premiership games this season. Let alone a League One game against Yeovil(with the boat show, -5, no wins etc)

NickG Posted 19 September, 2009 Share Posted 19 September, 2009 So far we have had 20,100 v Millwall - still in summer holidays, 12.30 kick off and on sky. 11,000 v Northampton in cup -lower league, midweek 19,200 v Brentford 12,000 v Bham - mideweek cup 17,000 v Colchester For a team with hardly any home wins in last two years I think that is pretty impressive support - for a league 1 side. In premiership this year average so far for Wigan -17,000 Skates - 17,000 Bham - 20,000 Burnley - 20,000 Fulham - 25,000 Hull 23,000 And if you look at this from skate OS - day before prem game against one of their rivals - http://www.portsmouthfc.co.uk/?qs_media=html&cms_id=109 they have given away 1,000 tickets kids for £1 and still have more than 3,000 tickets left in their ground of 20,000. IMO that reflects more poorly on the fans than the chairman and is being replicated by our cousins down the road. Have our fans been any different at times of boardroom unrest? We have always had a healthy away support especially for the nearer games but can we say our home support didn't drop off? We remain a far better supported team but we suffered from the problem with deserting rats especially at home so hypocritcal to gloat IMO.

Yeovil lads left the game early to take the pub, Saints came in to be met by the 'green army' chant, Saints laid into them and there was a few slaps handed out. Yeovil got exactly what they went looking for. ps I counted 9 Yeovil, and they were still beckoning Saints lads whilst stood on the bypass behind the railings! I'm not saying its right or wrong, just pointing out that it was not mindless Saints fans, Yeovil came looking, and found it. St. Jason Posted 21 September, 2009 Share Posted 21 September, 2009 so by your logic (twisted at best) if you go into a pub and are greeted by away fans singing at you, you are then entitled to "lay into them"?? No Mike, I'm just trying to give the full picture of what actually happened. FF states there were 4 Yeovil fans enjoying a quite drink, where in fact there was at least 9. They had purposely left the game early to 'take the home pub'! They were not merely singing 'green army' it was a call to arms, a "we're here, what are you going to do" gesture. I've been in this pub loads of times with home and away fans happily mingling, this was not the case on Saturday. Yeovil were in the Alfred with intent, they went looking for a fight and they found a fight. I'm not justifying the trouble just trying to give people the balanced look as opposed to the normal 'our fans are ****e' which is what normally gets spouted on here! Ps Mike, I didn't "Lay into them" just happened to walk in there as it all started! What people should also realise is we are now in league 1, hooliganism is rife in this league and league 2, it has never been stamped out down here. We've been used to the safety of the Premiership, where its awash with money to pay for heavy policing and stewarding. The fans are different as well, these are real clubs with die hard fans, not corporate giants with the 'prawn sandwich fans'. I really do feel a little perspective should be kept here lads, things are different down here, Bristol Rovers on a Tuesday night isn't going to be for the faint hearted!! The bottom line is we are a massive club in this league, teams and fans are going to be up for us, this is their cup final, us, Leed's, Charlton and Norwich are the Man u, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea of League 1! In all fairness Norwich have a great board, the ticket structure and pricing has been excellent for years, real value for money, they also put the early bird's on sale as early as February (i think) which is obviously a good tactic as relegation and promotion is normally along way of, with the obvious exception of Portsmuff who are fooked after only 6 games :-)

Raven on the wing Posted 21 September, 2009 Share Posted 21 September, 2009 (edited) krissyboy31 - I mentioned last week that Charlton have very poor away support for a recent Prem team with the benefit of London rail links etc. Last season they were one of the lowest in the Championship - even at the start when they were towards the top ( eg 413 @ Preston on Sat 30/08/08 when they were 6th having won 2 of 3 games ). I would be suprised if they took 500 to Norwich. Edited 21 September, 2009 by Raven on the wing

Especially down here, how many did they bring last season? I even remember their first season down in The Championship when they played us - they must have been in the top 5 but didn't pack the away stand out and it looked half empty.
