Tac-tics Posted 29 November, 2009 Share Posted 29 November, 2009 Yet another programme/match report stating hard times for Saints and how we could do with the extra £££s from the third round? We're owned by one of the richest men in the game as well as being ran by superb management on all levels!!!!!!!! Bloody ITV
Matthew Le God Posted 29 November, 2009 Share Posted 29 November, 2009 Maybe ITV will feel sorry for poor us and give us some TV money in the 3rd round.

Matthew Le God Posted 29 November, 2009 Share Posted 29 November, 2009 I dont get why they havent picked up on it yet, we spent £1million in League Bloody 1. Its exactly because of that, its League One so its hidden to them. Most ITV journalists are ignorant of most Premiership sides so when they give reporting on the 3rd tier ago it will be even worse. Saint in Paradise Posted 29 November, 2009 Share Posted 29 November, 2009 According to "The Echo" Saints booked their place in the third round of the FA Cup with a 3-1 win against Northampton at Sixfields.
Smirking_Saint Posted 29 November, 2009 Share Posted 29 November, 2009 I remember reading the daily moan once and it said about how we lost 3-1 against some team and even talked about the goalscorers, i was gobsmacked as i was at the game and won 2-0, that was back in the prem days mind you. But it made me wonder how the sports editor completely missed it.

We're owned by one of the richest men in the game as well as being ran by superb management on all levels!!!!!!!! Bloody ITV Just because we are owned by ML it does not mean we dont want as much income as possible. I wonder how NC is paid it maybe based on some financial figure relating to income
CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 29 November, 2009 Share Posted 29 November, 2009 Well we played more or less our 1st team which might well suggest a lucrative match against a EPL club in a later round is important for our budget . Just because Markus Liebherr is rather 'well healed' as they say that doesn't mean he's guaranteed to plough unlimited amounts of cash into SFC from now until kingdom come , indeed it's my experience that rich people become rich precisely because they are careful with their money . It's my view that the club should be run as a sustainable business in the medium/long term - if you could structure SFC so that it's income more than matched it's operating costs then that would leave the owner free to step in every now and again with some cash to invest in signing quality players . Whether you can have and entirely self financing debt free club in this era of vastly inflated player wages is another question .

Fact we are mortgage free gives the same impact of annual investment. Think the quotes were about making the business more sustainable but realising to climb back to prem will take annual extra investment. Think he will keep putting money in but not in silly spending sprees

Tamesaint Posted 29 November, 2009 Share Posted 29 November, 2009 On ITV they also said that a trip to Rotherham was "hardly a glamour tie for Luton supporters." Probably not if you are a plastic Premiership fan who also works for ITV. But if you are a supporter of a team in the Conference, a trip to a Football League ground in the second round of the Cup is not to be sneezed at!!! The glib cliches of some of these so called journos !!!

VectisSaint Posted 29 November, 2009 Share Posted 29 November, 2009 Just because Markus Liebherr is rather 'well healed' as they say I hadn't realised that Markus had been injured or unwell. What was the problem? Glad to hear he is better now anyway.

Rotherham's ground is being done up/rebuilt so they play their games at the Don-Valley athletics stadium in Sheffield. It's not a football ground by any means with only one covered stand. So even for Luton fans I wouldn't say they'd be too thrilled with a visit there.

It may only have 1 covered stand but the Don Valley Stadium has a capacity of 25K and is at least a major sporting stadium . Luton's previous away match was at Grays Atghletic in front of 1,600 people in a stadium which can hold 4,000 at a pinch. Their next game is at Chester in a stadium with a capacity of 5,000. Maybe the Don Valley is not so bad!! I wonder what they will make of SMS if they come here on 2 nd January.

People become billionaires by being visionary and daring. By taking risks and seizing opportunities. (Although, I admit they could also inherit it, which I think is what happened to Markus, but anyway.... ) Anyhoo, how much he is willing to spend is irrelevant. Clearly he is willing to spend enough to give us a great crack at promotion, otherwise we wouldn't have signed Lambert and Jaidi. If people think we did that in accordance with a sensible budget based on our income then they are wrong.
sad saints fan Posted 30 November, 2009 Share Posted 30 November, 2009 NickG made a very good point earlier in the thread about us being "mortgage free". I wonder how this actually affects our break even figure as far as gate money is concerned.I am sure I saw somewhere that last year we we needed around 15k to to break even,so if there is no mortgage that figure is lower and we are getting better attendances. So are we a profit making club already?
