SaintBobby Posted 5 December, 2009 Share Posted 5 December, 2009 Simple question, really. I'm v. upbeat about the owner, the management and the players. Let's say Pardew gets offered £5m to strengthen. If you were AP, how would you spend it (serious suggestions only please!) My own view: Sign Trotman, Waigo and - most importantly - Antonio (guesstimate 1.5m -at about 500K each) Put Lallana and Schneiderlin on drastically improved and lengthened contracts with huge buy out clauses (guesstimate £2m) Keep 1.5m in your top pocket in a Wengeresque way. Thoughts?
beavis17 Posted 5 December, 2009 Share Posted 5 December, 2009 Sign Antonio permanently, i think Trotman will go back, Waigo's here for the season anyway Sign Ward from Coventry, A decent defensive midfielder (Abdou or Diop style player from abroad) A good striker eg Sears if we can tempt west ham with an offer or Jackson Any money left over buy a couple of good squad players Get rid of the deadwood.. Arizona Posted 5 December, 2009 Share Posted 5 December, 2009 I'd sign Antonio and Trotman, not Waigo. Personally I'd bring back Jan Paul Saeijs on a free. I'd bring in a decent young RB. Two strikers one with bags of pace, the other a beanpole. A left winger, again with pace. I would sell Gillett and give Pulis, Saga, Forecast, Molyneux and Holmes away for free. I'm in two minds about adding Perry to that list. He has been good against some of our crapper opponents this season, but found wanting against anyone remotely big or fast. Couple of other HCDAJFUs: Aleksanders Cauna - 21 - Skonto - Midfielder. Scored against us on loan to Watford last year. Raio Piiroja - Fredrikstand FK - 30 - 6'3" Centre half. Goes to training on a boat. Good in the air and determined.
Smirking_Saint Posted 5 December, 2009 Share Posted 5 December, 2009 Ward would be a decent signing for me, hopefully to solidify defence (again), perhaps look at a trotman deal, dependant on the price, perhaps even another one of Pardews golden pick me ups, with a little bit of pace. (how quick is ward) Lose Lancadire, Pulis and perhaps Wotton. Look at a defensive midfielder to sign, lose wotton. Or another younger RB and begin building james into a full time DM (i think he could really blossom there). Or perhaps put a cheeky bid in for Melis. Sign Papa, keep antonio all season, see what happens with him, i am still not convinced with antonio. We need a decent back up for Lambert IMO, Pitman ??? And perhaps could do with a decent pacey forward, Sears or Jackson ?? Ok, that would be my main wishlist, i know that the 5 mil probably would not go that far so basically. Decent long term CB, with some pace and height. Papa on a perm. Back up for Lambert, and if cheap enough Jackson. Any thing more is a bonus. Oh yeah, obviously lose Saga, on a free if need to reduce wages. Gillet for a fee, and holmes. Molyneux, Pulis, Forecast ta ta, don't let the door hit your ass on the way out. Lancadire, release with some sort of sell on clause, just in case he gets good, FM stylee.
Arizona Posted 5 December, 2009 Share Posted 5 December, 2009 I think I'll also do the traditional, 'bring back Andrejs "Shev" Pereplyotkins' on this thread too. Another Baltic type who always turns out pretty good on FM is Estonian winger Sander Puri. Available on a free I think after leaving Levadia Tallinn. Had trials at Dortmund and actually has a trial at Celtic this week. Maybe a bit ambitious, but would be good.

Bailey Posted 5 December, 2009 Share Posted 5 December, 2009 Waigo is here until the end of the season anyway, so no need to take any action with him just yet. I'd like to see us sign the following: - Michail Antonio - Neal Trotman - Jacob Mellis - Zak Whitbread - Simeon Jackson We've still got quite a large squad, especially for a League One side, so I'd ship out: - Marek Saganowski - Simon Gillett - Anthony Pulis - Lee Molyneux - Tommy Forecast - Lee Holmes Whilst I like Holmes, he clearly isn't in Pardew's plans so maybe it would be in his best interests to look for a move elsewhere. I'd also look to extend the loan deals of the youngsters currently out gaining first-team experience away from St. Mary's. - Olly Lancashire (Grimsby) - Kayne McLaggon (Eastbourne Borough) - Michael Poke (Torquay) - Jake Thomson (Torquay)

The Kraken Posted 5 December, 2009 Share Posted 5 December, 2009 I'd just let Alan Pardew do his job. As he has proven so far, it's one that he can do in a more than capable manner. AP has brought in a number of players since arriving here. And all of them, in their own way, have proven to be a successful signing. But, more to the point, pretty much no-one on here has predicted their signing, let alone suggested it. It's easy to sit back and play fantasy manager and criticise from afar. I'm happy for our manager to sign who he sees fit; his choices are bound to be much better than the suggestions that come from the plethora of clowns on here. The Kraken Posted 5 December, 2009 Share Posted 5 December, 2009 That's sort of the point of this thread, Buzzkill. And that was sort of the point of my answer. No-one, as far as I can recall, suggested any of the signings we made in the summer and since. So I have faith in the management team signing who they think is the best option. Don't get me wrong, I love the sentiment that we have money to spend in January on players, its a great thing. Maybe I've just been swayed by the relentless bickering on this site of late from pointless idiots who want to debate how a win is a draw, and how 9 wins out of 13 is a bad thing. Eastcowzer Posted 5 December, 2009 Share Posted 5 December, 2009 I agree that Lallana should be offered an improved contract but would it also be at all possible to buy out his 'sell-on' clause from Bournemouth, then any potential transfer would benefit Saints alone. Arizona Posted 5 December, 2009 Share Posted 5 December, 2009 with this spending...not going up next year would be an utter disaster and embarrassment Calm down dear, our net spending is f**k all so far. We will probably outspend most championship clubs in the next 10 months.

I will be shocked if pardew is not (or at least in the top 3) best paid managers in league 1 He probably is, pard's wouldn't have joined us for a pittance. The beauty is that the attendances and merchandise can now contribute to the general running costs, rather than being absorbed straight into managing the debt - so that helps alot too. There isn't another club in this league that is debt-free, that in it's own should make us a dominant force eventually.

I know the cash from those sales went towards keeping us afloat, and that the recent transfers have been funded by Marcus. My point is that we've had to spend that money just to make the squad as "good" as it was last year. We've lost Surman, Saeijs, DMG, Skacel, Euell and BWP from last years squad. The first four at least were decent players and all of them needed replacing. The spending was needed to bring a crap squad up to scratch, as opposed to taking a decent squad and turning it into a world beater.
