Leeds match - Build Up

Leeds are a top side, no doubt about it, and Norwich made us look very average during the 2nd half on Tuesday night, however if we can get a bit of luck again with Jaidi and Connolly back then coming away with 3 points is a real possibility, Leeds are bound to lose at home at some point as we should still be buzzing from the Penalty shoot out, especially Bart and Thomas.

Remember Leeds have drawn at home to Kettering (in 90 mins) and Huddersfield recently and drawn away at Brentford so no need to get them too much respect

I'll take a point, would love a victory. If we played well, I wouldn't be too dis-heartened with a defeat as Leeds haven't been beaten so far this season at home (as far as I am aware).

Regardless of the result I expect Saints topick up 6 points from the next avaliable 9.

Not so sure Colchester and Leeds are good teams but if we could pick up at least five I would be pleased as we never usually get many points over Christmas and the New Year.

We have some interesting games coming up in January against play off rivals which I would have thought we need to win

I like what Pards said about going there letting our hair down and having a right go at them he has saved Connolly for this 1 and I think he will notch I can see it being 2-2 or 3-3 would be in dreamland if we win.

We are going there with plenty of confidence our away record this season is immense bring them on COYS

After all the euphoria of the Norwich match, we now need to turn our attention to, arguably, an even bigger match on Saturday.

It's going to be a toughie, and I would be happy with a draw.

For that reason, im going for a 1-1.

COYR!

I will bite your hand off down to the ankle for that result.

If we try and play football with no control of the midfield, we will get mullahed by Leeds. The major negative I have against Pardew is the lack of emphasis he places on the league over the cup competitions. I feel we may have left any real hopes of a result against Leeds on the pitch against Norwich. Hammond stuck in a full shift and without him performing out of his boots against Leeds, I find it difficult to see how we will come out of this one smiling. It's not all roses for Leeds and their heavy fixture list is having an effect, but they have the benefit of being at home without a days travel thrown in.

At the end of the day it's all about getting into the play off's and win or lose against Leeds, it does not determine that. Pardew could easily surprise us here, change things round and come up with a result. What really concerns is the heavy fixture list affecting our chances of the play off's. A couple of weeks into the transfer window and we should have the personnel sorted but I feel we missed a trick in not recalling Gillett until that time.

I think the late drama on Tuesday night has made everyone forget that for large parts of the game we didn't actually play very well. We will need to improve massively for the Leeds game but having said that I do believe that we will do just that and also that Leeds are showing signs of cracking.

A good 2-2 would be alright by me but I wouldn't be surprised if we sneaked it.

Stop building Leeds up please as they are playing **** at the moment, we should expect to win this quite easily as Leeds should be worried about us, not us over them.

3-0 saints.

+1. they were sh*t on Tuesday as they have been of late- by all accounts Accrington should have beaten them...and on their patch. That said, they'll probably turn it on against us and we'll get walloped.

I'd like to feel that there was still a bit of the Saints of old about us, despite our winning streak and ability to score at the death of a game. That old Saints would have us beating the top teams and losing against the minnows. But we aren't the Saints of old now and there has to be some belief that in the current form and with the current resultant confidence boost, we can actually beat them. We should fear no team. Provided that we can play our best team, we have more quality overall than Leeds and Lambert is a few goals ahead of Beckford, but we also have probably a better distribution of goals throughout the team too. Even if they keep Lambert quiet, there is always Connolly, Papa, Lallana, Hammond, etc.

Some might label this a shock defeat if we beat them. But recent form would label it as eminently feasible.

I have to disagree I think AP is right to put everything into the JPT & the league I wouldnt mind if he rests a few for the FA Cup but the JPT is a chance for a trophy it is way to long since we won something.

I will be made up if we make the play offs but if we end up top half with the JPT in the trophy cabinet I will be more than happy with the seasons progress.

I also dont rate Gillett way to small and not good enough to make up for his lack of hieght we can buy better in Jan even James is better in midfield than gillett

We're not playing well either. Fortunately we keep winning anyway.

What colour are we playing in (and where do you usually find such information as it's not on the OS) as my daughter wants to wear her shirt (on top of a very thick jumper ;-))?

The match programmes have this info on the fixtures page.

It shows yellow/blue for Leeds.

Thanks for taking the time RonManager.

Just a pedantic note (sorry); why do we sing 'YELLOWS' when the shirt is predominantly blue? Of course it wouldn't sound correct ('BLUES') but it just doesn't sound right singing yellows either. This has probably been discussed many times but I just don't get the time to keep up :-(

And why do we sing "Alan Pardew's Red Army" when we are in the away kit!? Even worse, there was a few 'RED ARMY"'s at Charlton, and they were playing in red!!

Personally I'm loving AP's enthusiasm for the cup competitions! This season he has several, not always entirely compatible, goals to aim at.

He needs to keep the profile of the club high both locally and nationally; to make us attractive for players to join, to reward ML's investment, to keep our commercial profile high. He is at the same time trying to rebuild the club from ground zero and the crowds this season are ample evidence he's doing that in spades, 20k in the third division in the middle of a recession, in December is not to be sniffed at!

What better way to move the whole club forward than a Wembley final? He would IMHO be mad not to aim for this, nobody says JPT and play-offs are mutually exclusive do they? The players will be loving playing at the minute and will all want to be involved in every game, what a refreshing change that is. Just look at how few injuries we have had this year compared to previous years. That surely tells you that the players are much fitter, much better disciplined and much more motivated than the last few years?

Also don't overlook our relative (certainly for this level) strength from the bench: depending on who starts on Saturday AP knows he always has a Plan B with some combination of Connelly(!)/Antonio/Waigo/Wotton/Perry/Thomas/Trottman to come on and do a job.

I'm very optimistic for Saturday, we are in great form and Leeds have dipped at just the right time. I'm hoping for a win, I'd take a draw, we might lose; either ways we are 2 games from WEMBLEY and who would have thought that last July?

I think we will lose...but that is no disgrace...they are the best team in the league and are playing at home

a draw would be a good result

You have resorted to negativity young man.

Think about it, do Chelsea go to Liverpool/Arsenal/United expecting or content to play well and come away with nothing???

They do not, sir.

We go there to win, nothing less.

And we should be rightly cheesed off if we don't. We ARE the CHELSEA of League One.

Im very optomistic about the game. Although i agree a draw would be an acceptable result, I would still be disappointed, we really should be going there looking to win. We are on a par with Leeds imo.

Leeds are gonna lose at home at some point, and if any team is gonna get a result its us. Walsall had only lost once at home (to leeds) yet we ripped them apart. We've got a strong following and i would expect us to make it very difficult for them. i think we'll win 2-0

And what is all this about players being tired!? there was no extra time on tuesday, they still only played 90mins of football and will have had three full days recovery before sat. As ive said before - they are professionals and should be able to cope with two games in a week

COYR! Oh and does anyone know if we will be the featured league 1 game on the FL show this week?

No matter how good we do in the JPT, no player is going to use that as a basis for coming to Saints. The fact if we remain in League 1 will definitely have an effect, the opposite to what you are proposing. Along with the major issue of trying to retain players to play in this poor league. we have seen already that putting out our strongest team in the cup has left us jaded and cost us points, even the Norwich manager commented on the fact.

Although we have fared well for injuries this season, we have a pronounced weakness in midfield and right back. Until we can get more players in to cover these positions you will get repeats of the Brighton game. Although I reckon we have the best attack in the league, it's next to useless without service. As for the JPT, it's like that old joke of the similarity between having a moped and going out with a plumper.
