Wotton...

He's not the greatest of players, but i don't think he's been that bad this season?

he's done a job when he's been asked to do one, and although he's clearly limited you cannot question his commitment.

Still, he needs to be replaced if we're going to move forwards and i'm sure we'll do that this month.

Commitment is all well and good, but I can remember him running AWAY from the ball, hacking players down well after the ball had gone, backing off...and off...and off when a player is running at him, and most frustratingly of all nearly all of his passes are those stupid little chippy things that do nothing at all.

Well, there's me put straight with a cogent, detailled and robust explanation.....

You can say "my opinion is just as valid as yours" as much as you like, but the fact remains that you cannot comment on OVERALL performances you haven't seen. You can go by how it sounded on the radio, and a few clips on the highlights reel - but then it is not your opinion. It is an amalgamation of others.

Wotton today and on various occasions this season has been utter dog ****. The only time I thought he played ok was in the 4-5-1/4-3-3 formation because Hammond and Morgan still defended but Wotton was still effective breaking up the play. But we really need to replace him.

I would love to see us bring someone in to allow Wotton to leave. I've never seen a CM player hide from the ball so much or give the ball away so bloody often.

The weakest link for me. There are better options out there and we need to buy one.

He is a player who seems to do OK in a specific role.

Statistically... he's started 12 times this season and was ever present in the good unbeaten run we had in the Autumn. He's been used as sub 9 times.

It's hard to come on and fit in, and yesterday (when few played well) he was no real replacement for Hammond.

Typical for a utility player but IMHO he's worth keeping as a " regular sub."

did he actually say that..?

Indeed he did. Last season when people were saying we actually played well in quite a few games (which we did) and he was arguing that if people believed that then his opinion was more valid than theirs, despite the fact that they had attended games and he had not. He said it and I remember it clearly.

jesus....we are going to hold what people say a year ago against them...

what is the point..

seriously, what is the point in this place..just full of spitefull w@nkers (not you) who have to get personal the minute they dont agree with what you say...and being personal provokes a reaction and round and round it goes..

what I am utterly amazed at is how people are shocked that those who did not go to the game MIGHT have something to say...

oh my god...what a crime..this is a message forum and a thread asks for REACTIONS..and (this may be a guess) people who have NOT gone to a game have been giving reactions since the birth of football itself...yet, it is still a SHOCK to people and they have to get nasty, personal, uppity

Utter b*ll&cks.

I actually said my opinion is more valid that the happy clappers that completely refuse to see anything negative about the team or are willing to be objective and criticise.

Because it is entirely relevant to the conversation we are having now. When Alpine says Morgan is ****, I want to know what he bases that opinion on. If (as has been the case in the past) it's just from what he hears on the radio then IMO that makes his opinion less valid than someone who goes to many games. I didn't get nasty.

No you didn't. There is no proof now so you can claim what you like but you will remember that I called you on that point when it happened.

I never said you did get nasty..but you only have to look on here (and the lounge) for less than 3 minutes to see people getting up tight..

as for morgan..there have been no end of posts/threads through out the season from people saying he is "not that good"..

I think he is, but that is me...I have not seen him much at all this season..so that means my view (which is opposite to alpine) is also less valid...??

does it really matter who is valid and who is able to go every week...this is a message board ffs...people the world over use it, make comments and give opinion..

maybe we would have more NEW users if those who do post, who cant go to game didnt get so much crap for posting an opinion...

I have never once said he isn't entitled to his view. I personally put more weight behind the opinions of someone who watches a player week in week out compared to someone who never goes. If I never attended the saints games, I believe that someone' criticisms of a player are more valid than mine if I did.

Do you not agree that your opinions on a player will be much less informed than someone who watches a player every week? If have listened to quite a few Aston Villa games this year and I have an opinion on a few of their players but I would place much more value on a Villa season ticket holder's opinion of their players than mine. Not sure why this is such a contentious issue, it seems perfectly obvious to me.

I tell you what, if it had been Wotton attacking that ball other than Papa Waigo you can bet your life that we would have got three points yesterday...

Absolutely, Wooten has many faults but he was the only leader on the pitch after /hammond went off yesterday and his battling qualities helped keep us in the game.

And from what I can see on the FL goals, he was initially largely to blame for their goal, wandering around aimlessly ball watching...

Wotton is a good leader, pro and role model. He is however a very limited footballer, well past his somewhat average best. HCDAJF an average, midtable L1 side, but if we want to move beyond that we need someone better.

I think out problem is not having a settled midfield. We keep changing between 4-4-2 and 4-5-1, meaning James, Wotton, Waigo, Antonio and now Holmes are in and out. I think we should play 4-4-2 all the time, with a midfield of Holmes - Hammond - Morgan - Waigo. I'm not convince by Holmes and would like a new LW. Also I don't think we're getting the best out of Lallana on the wing. He hasn't scored in 8 games now, and I'm sure Saga will have warned him about the online riots if that stretches beyond 10.

I understand Doncaster have a lad called Gillett that may be available .

I thought Gillett was one of our better players last season. Looked a completely different player under Pardew this season and looked bereft of confidence.

Pardew likes tall players who can compete in the air. Gillett never stood much chance.

If Wotton wasn't available to come on when Dan got injured yesterday, we would have lost.

He broke the play up and did little wrong. Also, his solo celebration for the goal proves, to me at least, that he cares. All of which we're going to need for this half of the season.

Negativity and the seeking of scapegoats does more harm than good to our season.

Fantastic, but i'd rather he stayed calm - as one of the "old pros" surely that is his main role. Keeping the younger players grounded.

I agree with Alpine on this; our midfield is ****.

Schneiderlin is pedestrian and innefective, as is James (although he can deliver a good set-piece (although so can many professional footballers and so can I)). Lallana is not a left winger although has done an admirable job there this season. Our best right winger is usually on the bench.

I don't mean to nit-pick but that is kind of what an opinion is. A decision made after consideration on available information.

So, it is his opinion, as long as he not just quoting Merrington, for example.

Thank you so much for your well informed and erudite opinion. I guess you did not see the lead up to the goal, if you did you would see Wotton prancing around in the middle of nowhere like a ****ing fairy. What happened afterwards is not the issue, it is the result of Wotton having switched off.

I really feel that people find it too easy to slate Wotton when the goal was as a result of the right side of defense going on holiday not soley Wotton.

Have never slated Wotton before, and I am not one who picks on players for no reason, unlike some on this board. Watch it again, header comes out from defence (Seaborne?), watch Wotton's response, or rather lack of. That was the moment Millwall were going to score, not much Waigo or Jon could do. Let down by our wily old fox of a midfielder who was caught napping. Perhaps they could have done better. Wotton switched off, completely. Millwall scored, simples.
