I reckon it will be a decent attendance.

I am going with two friends, almost had a third coming as well, but their die-hard ipswich godparent would disown them if they sat in the Saints end, so they are sitting with a couple of other friends in the away end, it should make a fun trip home =p

25000 would be very decent indeed. Whatever the number I hope there's a result on the day, that we really go for it and either we win or we go down fighting. The games are coming thick and fast and if we're going to have any chance of the play-offs we need to go on another run of wins. The next four 'relatively' easy games before Norwich away for example. Don't want a cup replay in the middle of it all.

Come on!!!

Tractor boy mate of mine told me Ipswich had sold their initial allocation of 2000 (I think) and had requested more.

Correct - I refused to let my Mum and Dad who are Ipswich supporters sit with me in Kingsland so told them to buy tickets in the away end. They bought them a couple of days ago but couldn't get seats together - were told to come back today to the ticket office. This morning Ipswich received additional allocation and mum and dad are now sat together (although after 50 years of marriage you'd have thought they'd have preferred to sit apart :) )

I was stood at the Milton Rd end when Saints bt Ipswich 7-0 in a cup game

Ipswich were a decent side and had Ray Crawford, a useful Centre Forward (Pompey lad) up front.

Crawford had been in the Army (on National Service, presumably in the Far East) and an older bloke next to be kept on shouting out 'Jungle Boy you're useless'

One of the odd things you remember from your Saints supporting days!!

They won the Second Division that Season and the First the next or soon after - Sir Alf was the manager

Ray Crawford was guest at our youth football clubs presentation evening last year and what a top bloke he is, Jungle boy was his nickname and his autobiography was called that, he still does commentary on their matches so im sure he will be there tomorrow.

Funny story he told me was that when he had scored the winner for England at wembley, he was on the train going back to Ipswich so he got a sandwich and cup of coffee from the buffet car and sent his expenses in to the FA (as he was told to do) the following week he got a letter saying that the FA would not refund his money as it was too much!!

Great memories, but you forgot to mention that Saints had a bit of an off

-day because Ipswich actually got a goal that day ...and we ONLY won 7-1

I know its bad conceding goals at home like that, but there it is ;)

I don't remember that match, but I do remember an amazing game at The Dell from Bobby Robson's days as manager. We were 3-0 down at half-time and being thoroughly outclassed, followed by an incredible second half when we came back to win 4-3!

Does anyone remember being at this match?

Apologies if I got this wrong. Usually check up on facts before posting but relied totally on memory.

Did Ipswich go 1-0 up?

Also Ipswich used to have a left winger by the name of Jimmy Leadbetter. All skin and bone, knobby knees, a few strands of brylcreamed hair, the lot, a proper 1950's type footballer.

No pace or tackling ability but very skilful. A lower rent Terry Paine but very effective in his day and supplied Crawford and Phillips with plenty of crosses

Yes I remember being at that match as well.

I've just looked it up in "In That Number" and it was actually 3-1 we came back from (0-1 Wark, 1-1 Keegan pen, 1-2 Wark, 1-3 Mariner, 2-3 Armstrong, 3-3 Moran, 4-3 Armstrong). Bobby Robson is quoted as saying he had "never been madder with my team in 10 years".

Ipwich went on to finish 2nd that season (1981-82) with Saints 7th.
