Is anyone else thinking that Lambert looks like he's starting to show signs of entering a lean period. And that Barnard might have been signed just in time.

And how do we think a Barnard/Connerly or Waigo combo might fair.

Your thoughts please!! ;)

well.he scored in three successive games against Colchester, Luton and Millwall  ..but hasn't scored in the last two games.

He's top scorer in the league....time to sell him off - d'ya think ?:tfrag:

What a crock of sheite, this quote from the post match sums up why

Oh dear, yet another fan on here that does not understand the role of a forward player. LOL.

Lambo was terrific today - he held the ball very well, won most things in the air, drew defenders in and created chances for others. His shot let to the winning goal and was very unlucky not to get a spectacular third goal for us from about 40 yards out that would have sealed it.

Barnard has a good first touch, never gave the ball away, looked good in tight situations and was always looking to get strikes on goal. Did well for the team when switched to an unfamiliar right midfield role in the second half. Showed glipses of pace. Looks like he can lead the line in a way Connoly, Papa and Lallana can't which is exactlywhat we need when Pardew gives Lambo the rest he has been saying the big guy needs.

There we go, a more considered view from a fellow strikers perspective.

Not concerned at this time.

Beattie and Rasiak had periods of not scoring for a few games.

He may not have scored in the last 2 games, but has added another 2 assists to his already creditable list.

Whilst he is on the pitch the opposition daren't relax for a second and also know full well that giving away a free kick anywhere within 30 yards is going to be a major headache.

AP is well aware that the lad will need a rest, but you try telling that to somebody who expects himself to score in every game!!

With the depth of the squad, most players know that if they are given a rest and their replacement plays a blinder they might not get an automatic recall, although Lambert is probably one of the few who could!!

most forwards in this country would love to score 1 in every three games.

Lambert has just done that.

His shot made our second yesterday.

His performance was good.

He will score more league goals for us this season than most of us can remember a saints player doing.

Not at all concerned.

I think Lambert is playing great. He wins most balls in the air and holds the ball up very well. In addition he is leathal from free kicks and his work ethic is impressive. IMO we are lucky to have him and as long as Pardew protects him and that is easier said than done (maybe sub him where possible) he will and has already given our club a new dimension.Every club in the league would love him in their team.

I recall in the season that Beattie scored 23 (was it )?..he went the first 11 games without scoring.

Lambert has been very regular and is (I think- ever present in the side) the longest run WITHOUT scoring has been 3 games.

He scored 2 v.Tranmere, then " missed scoring " Norwich JPS, Leeds and Exeter... before netting again in 3 following games.

He has to be one of the most consistant scorers we've had in the last 20 years.

No-one should criticise him at all, he might mot be chasing every ball, but he is better than any 2 other strikers we have.

No playing comparisons, but we can remind ourselves that a lot of MLT's goals were penalties (48) and some fantastic free-kicks, too. That much is similar to Lambert's game.

How people raise doubts about Lambo I don't understand.

AP probably now has Lambert,Jaidi,Fonte and Kelvin as cast iron players week in week out. Thomas has maybe pushed a big claim and Fish has certainly shown that Harding is not guarenteed a start.

Wotton has no class whatsoever but we do seem to win when he plays. he is a dirty niggly in your face type of player and if we replace him i simply ask for someone of similar style but can also pass to a team mate.

its not a lean spell for Lambert it just that the service has been **** for a while. He's decent in the air, but he's not superman. If we are going to hoof it a lot then we won't get the best out of him.

Jesus, just because he isn't scoring a goal a game...what striker in ANY league could you say should be scoring a goal a game?

Some of you on here need to get a grip!

Every striker goes through a lean spell, and perhaps Lambert is starting to go through his (open play) is what i'm saying. And its good AP signed Barnard in case he is . HTH!

Plus the goals from other area's are starting to dry up in the league games. ie: Colchester game, we scored 1 Norwich scored 4!!!

Do you not think that a difference in tactics might have something to do with it? Couldn't Boothroyd have 'got it right' against us but misjudged Norwich?

I didn't realise that lean spells included scoring from 30 yard free kicks. There'd be a lot more lean spells in all levels of football if we discount set pieces.

This thread stinks of preparing to say "I told you so". In 5 weeks if Lambert has scored 5 more goals no one will remember this thread. If he doesn't score between here and the start of March, SES can claim his profound football knowledge and tell us he was right all along. Its a win win situation.
