The Portsmyth game won't sell out..

.. unless the ticketing policy is sensible.

Everyone is taking about the 5th round draw and is rightly excited about it. I've had people phone me up who haven't been to SMS in a couple of seasons wanting a ticket.

But for every one of these Johnny-Come-Lately's, there are people who are thinking that their usual Pub is likely to be closed, and all the hassle created by a very heavy police presents, the likelihood of an early kick off, all coupled with it being live on TV, why bother!

I would urge David Luker and his bosses to price this game at a reasonable level, £16 say, and don't mess about with priority booking too much.

Just give Season ticket holders a week to get their own tickets, and then just open the door to anyone with a proven buying record on the database.

I'm told that amongst the blue few people are wondering whether to bother of not for all the same reasons, plus they are on a hiding to nothing. Win and everyone will say so they should and loose and never live it down.

There's no way a Southampton fan wouldn't go to this game because their local might be closed and there will be a few extra old bill about. The police presence will mostly be covering the Skates anyway.

It will sell out but anyone who deserves a ticket and puts some effort into getting one will get one easily enough.

There aren't 28,000 people who fulfil the presumed criteria of being ST holders or having gone to Ipswich so, although I like to think it will sell out, there's actually a good chance it won't.

Edit: In fact, what TDD said - with fewer words - above.

I think it will sell out but it will be a reduced attendance because of the gap between the blue few in the Northern and I bet the police don't allow us to sell blocks 1-3.

I suspect (IMO) blocks 48 and 1 will be left empty for segregation. They'll have half of block 42 to 47. We'll have blocks 2 to half of 41.

Ohh, yeah. Quite right.

Usual pub closed - blast!

Match at lunchtime, have to get up at about 10:00 or something.

Police around in town - that'll put an end to my plans to fly in on the stolen 'copter.

And on telly... well, it might rain or something.

What a hassle!

If the game goes ahead that will mean that Pompey have been saved. HMRC will shut them down if they don't get their money. So if we play the fans of the Poorer side should be in an exstatic frame of mind. This could lift their players as well..

Not necessarily; they could be put into administration before the winding-up petition is heard.

Minus 9 points and the sword of Damacles hanging ever so slightly lower.... :)

29,400 was the attendance.

With about 1000ish seats used for segregation.

If we don't sale out against Pompey it will be a complete joke.

There were pockets of empty seats dotted around the ground that day..

If you are already on the SFC data base getting a ticket probably won't be much of a problem.

Last time in the FA cup it wasn't and we had nearly double the season ticket holders. Again, would be totally amazed if they allow walk up purchases.

I don't think it sold out when we played at SMS last time because of stupid ticketing policies.

Surely you're not refering to David Lukers wacky brainwave about "Pre Registration"?

That was without doubt the most spasticated idea that the ticket office ever came up with.

These are reasonable points, I think.

After that horrific "Goldsmith Walk" a few years ago, where the inbred c**ts couldnt get at the Saints fans so beat each other up instead, the police are right to be over-cautious, in fairness.

But it takes a lot of the party-feeling of the event away.

Do people really think this won't sell out?

Written by a ST holder one can only presume?

I'm bricking it on getting tickets: I've been to 6 homes and 6 aways so far (including tonight!) and around a dozen games a season since relegation ('Where were you when we were 5hit?').

If the club do go down the route of ST+1 and then count back on the FA Cup games (I haven't been to any) then I can't see myself getting anywhere near a ticket; a lot of people will be pretty ****ed if it is ST+1 as loads of regular fans will have to watch on telly as we have a stadium that is 50% full of: partners/hangers-on/plastics/JCLs/best-mates-never-been-to-a-game/neutrals (the number of posts on here saying 'My Man U mate has asked me to get him a ticket' is a joke).

Come on ticket office: do the decent thing!

STs = 1

Next dibs: STs who have brough extra tickets for family or friends = extra PFC tickets proportional to those they have already bought (1 ticket for every 10? seats bought)

Database = work the numbers out ( I would have thought 1 ticket for 6 games home or away might be somewhere near).

Difficult one for the club whichever way they call it but I do hope they find a way to get tickets to those who have seen 8-10 games this year over those who potentially haven't seen any!

Not selling out? Your 'aving a giraffe aren't you?

It's the tie of the round and the biggest game at SMS for quite some time!

If they are wound up they will cease to operate. The winding up order is set for Feb 10th, and I'm fairly sure that will happen even if they go into admin first.

However, King's Lynn who were wound up in early November '09 appealed and played 2 matches before the appeal failed and they ceased to exist, so it IS possible the game will be played even if they were actually wound up.

I suspect (IMO) blocks 48 and 1 will be left empty for segregation. They'll have half of block 42 to 47. We'll have blocks 2 to half of 41.

The (Rulebook Ric swearing lots) YouTube video of Crouch scoring the penalty in the 2-1 shows an unusually thin line of segregation between Block 41/42 (I was 4 seats from it, the net was over only a few seats in Block 42 which was otherwise away fans) but there was also the 41/42 walkway open - and the corner next to Block 1 was a wider netting.

Both lines were heavily stewarded and policed.

If Hampshire Police were happy with that last time they'll be happy with it again this time.

If people don't think they will need to get their tickets in advance, and expect the ticket office to be open on the day, next to 3000 Skates and a huge police operation, they are insane and shouldn't be allowed in the ground anyway, as a danger to themselves. It will sell out (with a slightly reduced capacity) unless our lot get blase about it and assume they can't get tickets anyway.

My tuppence worth:

1)-The game will sell out no matter what time its played and whatever the cost of tickets.

2)-I base this partly on the fact that many of us will have neutrals wanting to go, let alone fellow Saints fans.

3)-They won't go into admin and sadly, some sucker will pop up and invest in them at the last minute. You just know its going to happen!

4)-Hope to god that with big cup games coming up we don't lose our way in the league-for starters MK Dons will be tough and that game ain't over.

5)-I for one am gonna keep quiet about our chances of beating the skates-lets leave the ****y bravado to them.

6)-Here's toa good performance tonite, hopefully a win and we stay injury free.

We've got, I believe, between 13-14,000 ST holders but these days no 'members' scheme. Going on what they had before, the skates will get around 4,200, that leaves, after segregation, about 10-11,000 seats. There's no way the OB are gonna let these go to 'general sale' for obvious reasons so if those on the data base don't take them up it won't be allowed to be a sell out. I'd say it will tho.

It will be STH's to retain their own seat, and then restricted general sale to those on the database or with an old membership number etc. There isn't really the time to over-complicate the ticketing policy, and probably not any need.

Well I'm a season ticket holder who won't be going as I'll be at Gatwick ready to go away for half-term. I'm not at all impressed but the holiday was booked months' ago.

Mind you I was away when we played them last time in the Cup so I might be a lucky omen. I remember getting text updates and the news that Crouchy had scored was unbelievable. To top it all I bumped into some Skates in the pub later that night in our skiing resort!

In lieu of the k/o time, the fact the game is on terrestrial tv, the fact that older fans/families will be put off, the fact PFC will want prices as high as possible, and the probability that David Luker will c o c k up the selling procedure I do think this game could well fall short of a sell out.

I've already got tickets for MK Dons on the Tuesday before (booked time off work and everything ready for this game). If i can get a ticket easily for the Skates game i'll go and knock the MK Dons one on the head , but if our wonderful ticket office take the pi ss i won't bother.

With tickets at £30/£28 it may be a struggle to sell them all. We shall see.

and the fact that you have to buy another ticket for another game at the same time unless you are a season ticket holder!!

The cost is not just 28 quid mote like 60 ish

Yes, but every man and his dog can't have one.

My point exactly.

Example. I'm a season ticket holder. I frequently get a ticket for a mate who lives elsewhere. I buy it against my season ticket as I'm local. Result despite going to plenty of games he isn't on the data base and won't get a ticket.

They could sell hundreds of thousands of tickets, but they won't. I understand why sales are limited to people on the database but after a given period season ticket holders should be able to buy extra tickets; or I think you'll find empty seats on the 13th.
