Disappointed by that to be honest!!! Not with Puncheon , but I still felt we needed one more!! Oh well, not long til the summer!!!

I sort of feel like that too but I think it maybe because Hammond is currently not playing.

Just be interested now in what team we will be playing.

THE ONLY DOWNSIDE WAS THIS

"We are now finished for this second half of the season in terms of transfers, and this team now will have to see how far it can go in terms of getting us as close to the play-offs as possible, possibly winning the Johnstone's Paint Trophy and progressing in the FA Cup.

Thought we were going to strengthen the centre of midfield:confused:

No quality midfield general in Saints squad still then....

what's a midfield general?

Very pleased with Puncheon. He was great at Barnet, why Plymouth didn't give him more than 6 games I will never know. Have been impressed with him in both games against us, and he's scoed one or two fantastic goals this season so he will be full of confidence, which means he will hit the ground running. Nice to weaken Franchise FC before the return leg as well.

To be fair to Pardew he has said consistantly through this transfer window that he wanted to replace Melis and that is what he has done with Puncheon, someone who can play wide or in central midfield.

A very fair summing up. Implies that we are building for next season and I am sure there will be one or two siginings in the summer to finish things off.

The Cups are a nice bonus.

Now to enjoy the rest of the season.

Gillett has returned, and Puncheon can play at the front of a three in the middle so to a degree we have done that. I would guess that we were trying for a Gillett/Stock swap deal but both clubs valued the players differently. That could still happen.

Happy with this.

We have now signed a right back, two central defenders, a midfielder with capabilities of playing wide and an attacker.

Good business in the window and just what we, as supporters, asked for.

If they play Puncheon wide left it will sort the central midfield problem by opening up the passing options which we don't have at the moment.

The only reservation I have, is I think like Lallana, he likes to play narrow which isn't going to cure anything.

Although Alec Ferguson sees playing down the touchlines as vital, Pardew doesn't seem to be bothered, which is one of our major problems. It is all about outlets and we only have the front man at the moment, we need to get men out wide to stretch the defence and allow us to pass the ball around.

MASSIVE signing. So excited by this!

When i went to MK Dons away in the JPT and he was the only player in their team i was worried about. I'm happy he's a saint!

lovin your enthusiam. He is a great prospect. This is exactky the kind of signing I wanted us to go for. Young and hungry, and the best of what this league has to offer. This reminds me of the Matty Taylor signing for the skates. It will go under the radar at little but give it six months and he'll make things happen here and then we'll win games for fun and have scouts up and down the Premiership looking at him.

Good signing, this lad could be with us for a while and up a couple of league. However seem to think Pards has still not got the CM we all think we need. Not to keen on Wotton playing as much as he has had to in recent weeks.

now all would include me wouldn't it? as I've been saying we have all the central midfielders we need in Morgan,Hammond,James and eventually Wotton

Gobern and Gillett it looks like a few people have roughly the same vision of our current situation as the management.

you coud be right there. The only thing I would say is that Lallana has been hugging the line for the last few games and when he does he simply does not get a pass. He never sees the ball. The problem is not Lallana coming inside, its that players don't pass it out wide to him. I wonder if the ball will be drawn across to Puncheon a little more. Perhaps we can move to a five man midfield with one of those two at the front of the diamond - like Mellis did before he went off with England. Lallana also played his best stuff as the left winger.

not sure I agree. AP plays Antonio, who hugs the touchline.

Superb signing and astonished by the business we have done this window. Maybe stock for next season. Hopefully a couple out over the weekend.

Doubt he will be playing today as he is to be 'presented' before the match. Rumour was he had a medical last night so will not have been registered in time

Totally agree - we set up with two very wide players but only seem to use the one - Antonio. I'd like to see AL brought into the game more - not got he electric pace of MO but his ball control is way ahead.

obviously there isn't going to be room for Lallana,Puncheon and Antonio in the starting line up, not with Lambert and Barnard starting anyway.Someone is going to get dropped for the majority of league games (when we get Hammond back) and I wouldn't mind betting it will be Lallana more often than not.

The problem on Tuesday was Mills not passing to him. If he plays today we need much better passing from the fullbacks. The midfield have also got to give him the ball more, all the time in fact. Keeping feeding him till he runs himself out. Mind you with Antonio full of confidence its hard not to look to him as an outlet.

I'm excited by this signing. Absolutely no excuses for Pardew going into the second hal of the season. He has HIS side now.

4-5-1 with Barnard dropped? Terrific choices. Perhaps too much choice. Pardew has to find the right formation quickly as the players are there. No excuses at all. If we don't win games the manager has to carry the responsibility now.

GET IN. brilliant signing.

Im just so happy with everything saints right now, at the beginning of the window we were all dreaming of going out and buying the best players in the league but i never really believed it. But now we've taken Barnard and Puncheon, and not to mention Fonte who is one of the best players in the league above!

Im reserving judgement on Seaborne and Otsemebor until ive seen them play, but think that now we do have the BEST squad in the league (minus all our driftwood which we really have to get rid of)

There is a massive difference in the effect of wide on both touchlines as Utd play, or just one wide, which cramps the midfielders and promotes the lump it up top approach.

Suggestion on the Plymouth boards seems to be that he never settled all the way down in Devon and was homesick for London. As his heart was never really in it, seems Luggy was happy to get shot of him on loan wherever he wanted to go to cut his losses.

No more signings - shame no Stock or Danns

It's unlike you two to post something negative when we have some good news!

I think he is a very good player who will give AP a lot more options with our offensive play.

This is obviously the Mellis replacement AP said he was going to buy.

IMO, the 2 loanees we lost (Mellis and Trottman) have been replaced with far superior players in Puncheon and Fonte. Surely this is the way to do things?

And, lets not forget, Hammond was brought in to be the engine in midfield. I honestly think that bewteen Hammond, Morgan and James we have 3 excellent CMs for league 1. Unfortunately 2 of these are injured at the moment, but I do not believe either are long term injuries; Gillett and Wotton are also (IMO) suitable cover for the next couple of games we have at least.

Lallana spends a lot of his game in central positions. We need to be able to pass the ball out wide from the centre of the field, receiving the ball from the full back with the midfield and defence moving across to cover isn't going to open teams up, that is when the ball needs switching quickly across to the other side, to attack down the open side. It is an option we don't have or use.
