Saints .v. sailor boys game; Very Disappointed

Not particularly with the club, I do understand the need to ensure the right people receiving tickets. However, have written to Luker/Luker's staff, the ticket office, management and even Cortese/Cortese's administration staff and have drawn a 100% blank trying to get tickets for a couple (at least) of us LA Saints that want to go to the game.

I am now barely a week away from the match and the flights are becoming more scarse and a lot more expensive FFS. The last thing we need to do is to make a ****load of arrangements, pack, lose a day flying there at great expense just to sit in the Avenue Bar and watch it on TV for Christ sake. The game (most likely) will not be on the TV here, so this diehard Saint will be reluctantly listening to the fading in and out crap 'Saints Player' with commentary from that muppet and Uncle ("we really need a second goal") Dave at 4 in the frigging morning....

Like I said 'disappointing'.

To be honest you seem like a nice bloke and especially with helping out Ron but (and there's always a but) you don't really deserve a ticket over people who have been to games more often than you. Who's more deserving, someone who lives locally and goes to games or someone who lives a long way away? It's sad that you can't get a ticket but you can't really expect the club to hold back tickets for fans that live in other countries. The good thing is that you should be able to get tickets for other games - we don't sell out for them so why not reschedule for another weekend?

If you are not on the database you don't get a ticket. It's a pretty simple system.

Besides, there are shed loads of people not on the database that deserve a ticket before you do. Mainly because they probably go to more games than you.

Serves you right for living in LA.

No.

TijuanaTim has put himself out and presumably spent a lot of money to help Ron Davies out. Here's a player that is as much a legend as Matt Le Tissier, albeit from a different era, who has had some problems and no-one else has bothered.

If any fan deserves the club to bend the rules it's TijuanaTim.

oh FFS. to get on the database you need to buy a ticket for any game in since we have been at SMS. How many chances have you had to go to a saints game in the last 6/7 years? anyone not on the system cant really have any grumbles if they dont get a ticket.

My old man has been to at least 10 games this season but has scrounged spare tickets had them bough for him etc and now he cant get a ticket but he isnt moaning he acceppts that ITV is the only option

Not whingeing? Your last sentence used the word disappointing. mate - I've been to 7 games so far this season but can't make any of the 'linked' games as I'm working all of them. I'm not prepared to spend twice the ticket value just to secure a seat for Pompey so I'm hanging out for the off chance I'll get one next week.

Lovely that your're excited about the game but there's thousands of Saints fans who are much more deserving of tickets than you are. If your love for Saints was that big you wouldn't be living thousands of miles away.

Don't get carried away with NC's gestures - lovely as it is that there's a baby with a free life long season ticket it doesn't mean everyone with a story will get looked after.

Bottom line: go to games at SMS on a regular basis - you deserve a chance to go to Pompey game or JPT final (if we get there). After that no-one's really bothered

the man lives in america not england ffs, some people have to move for work, didnt realise you could earn top dollar in sothampton, maybe i should move back, as this wont be a sell out surly someone can help him out, also my daughter who comes to watch saints with me is not on the database and has never been on it ,but has been to every saturday game for the last 2 years, only with the help of a cousin who cant go, had to link a ticket to get 1 for this game.

have just checked the local salary compared to what i can earn if i moved back home, think i'll stay here

I know he lives in USA. So what are you saying? Because he is prepared to get on a plane he should jump the queue of other Saints fans who have been to see the turgid entertainment at SMS for the last few years?

As for your daughter that's down to your own ineptitude. My son is 11 and is a member of Junior Saints - therefore if we get to Wembley for example he will get a ticket as we're going on Tuesday night.

Oh and Tim... I've got no argument with you - I've seen your posts and passion on this forum and the last and appreciate you are a fuly devoted Saints fan. It's just that those who go to SMS regularly are probably higher in the pecking order.

Ask Nicola Cortese etc for tickets for the next league game at home and I'm sure they'll sort you out.

My point is there's thousands of Saints fans who go to SMS much more often than Tim... why should he get a ticket instead of them? Just because he's prepared to fly over for the glamour games?

Did he come to Ipswich in the last round? Or Northampton away?

No - I did and so did all my family......

You can't expect everyone from Southampton to stay there their whole lives, Tim obviously still spends a great deal of time and money on saints.

Besides I hardly think that the fairweather's who havn't been to game since the prem, and who would therefore be on the database are any more deserving, many of those on the database only have a passing interest in football/saints, otherwise we'd be selling out 100k stadiums, if they went to only half the games.

I live about an hr and a half away - hardly over the Atlantic but far enough away that a trip to SMS costs about £50 quid in transport alone.

I had the opportunity to work in USA as a football coach but turned it down for many reasons - one of them being I couldn't go and watch the Saints.

All I'm saying is that those who go to SMS and rainy away days on a Tuesday night are more deserving of a ticket

Not being funny, but what is this whole database stuff about? I rang constantly today, finally got through at 5:15, wasn't on the database as all this season and last I have purchased on the day (and before people start saying "not a true fan" my work commitments mean I can't really do weekday games which is why I didn't buy a season ticket) and the guy just entered my details, gave me a customer number and I ended up with tickets for MK, Pompey and Leeds. What's the problem?

Dear oh dear, some of the response in this thread take the biscuit.

All the you "don't deserve to go as I've been to more games ripostes", where were you all when we were Season Tiocket holders back in the 70's and 80's and going to home and away games on the old bus trips at that time.

Many of the uberfans have been to HOW many Saints games in their lives? 50? 100? 150? cut the krap, many of us have been to far more over the years.

the "uberfan this week" should go argument doesn't make anyone more deserving.

It ISN'T about that

Unfortunately for Tim he hasn't done the dbase registration, so doesn't qualify for a ticket, that isn't anything to do with deserving, it is about computer systems.

Where were these "class war" uberfans in Marseilles, or Leeds 1st Leg Cup semi away? or Oldham away in '77?

Heck didn't see many of them away to Leicester when Anders had his moment, so cut it out.

The lesson for the expats is simple, we need to register one way or another because other big games will be coming up in the next couple of seasons.

But knock off the I'm better than you krap

Hey, TT, as I understand it, the game IS on the TV in the US - on Fox Soccer Channel. So, no worries.

I'm affriad that's the way it is. When I was in Tokyo I had to miss the vup final as I couldn't get tickets. This was even though i'd flown back for the semi final. You did have the chance of buying a half season ticket as well. This and a cheap flight might have saved you money and stress. I'm sure you could have sold it for something after and got a good amont of money back.

Feel for you mate but you did have options and still do have a chance. Good luck!

We get your drift (3 posts)

So you based your life, future, the welfare of your family, your hopes and dreams on the location of Southampton Football Club, I admire you for that, truly...maybe your family's best fortune isn't served, but what the hell...my families best interests including the medical re-habilitaion of my then wife, who had nearly died in childbirth, were best served in Southern California.

Oh and by the way I travel more supporting Saints and doing stuff for Southampton FC in one year than you do in twenty and that, my friend, is a hard FACT. I went to Southend away with H1N1 this year and by the time I went to the away game at Oldham it was developing into double pneumonia. As soon as I got back I bought a car, drove 15 hours non-stop and delivered it to the recently widowed Ron Davies and then promptly collapsed with exhaustion....read the post and you'll see that I was clearly not blaming Saints - whining or calling it unfair, just saying that I was "disappointed". So please use a little more thought before getting in your pulpit next time.

Each to their own and God bless you mate.

Good luck Tim, hope you get those tickets your after. Tried to get to the only game available to me whilst I was over a couple of weeks ago. Postponed due to snow, of all the luck! One more thing thing; As another passionate Saints fan who lives overseas it's disturbing to read some of these comments from our 'local' Southampton brothers. Get a life!

Hell i hope you manage to get a ticket, after the work you done for big Ron you deserve it for that alone.

Maybe people should read the posts fully a second time to gauge the feeling and gist of what is being said, or maybe next time TT dont type "I'm in LA so i deserve a ticket over everyone on else because i have to travel 1000's of miles" in invisible type (is there a sarcastic face thingy i could use there)

There is always people ready to use the "I'm a better fan than you" argument or the "I've been to more games than you" argument. I think people that go the extra mile in supporting their club and ex players (and dont bleat on about it, not once did TT say "because of all the hard work in helping RD i deserve a ticket") deserve to be accommodated.

Good luck on the ticket hunt i really hope you make it here

It does seem that you are moaning a little in your original post. And with the above quote, it seems that you are trying to imply that because you travel further to the odd game than others and because you went to a game ill and because you got double pneumonia (not even single pneumonia) and then did a big drive and then helped Ron that you deserve a ticket. Well, I'm not sure about that, you might be right or you might me wrong, but to try and claim you're not whinging is untrue. You're saying "look at all that I have done and I can't get a ticket". That is moaning.

Anyway, good luck with getting a ticket.

Well I am not moaning, bluntly 'seems', 'assumes', 'maybes' and 'I thinks' just ain't moaning, that's you guessing. The comments above were quite clearly addressed as a response to someone that had made three seperate posts on the subject and was actually initiating a response by stating he travelled 50 miles and chose not to further himself going to the US, right.

I have not been asked but inundated with requests for me to get Big Ron back here and it's a long process. For what...so that all the Smart Alecs could type 'well I've been to several games this year and he may well have played a few years ago, but screw him as I deserve to be at a game more than him'. I get it, Ron won't.

Hope you get a ticket, you should be fine judging by some of the responses above.

On a slight tangent. I am trying to get out there for late March and April to coincide with the possible Wembley fixture. What sort of trouble might I face getting a ticket if this happens anyone? I'm not a season ticket holder, member or on any database.

TT, I think some on here are jealous that you live in the sunshine mate away from this beautiful country of ours and for that reason you are not deserving of getting to see your team once in a while.

Glad to see that there are a few that still honour the values of camaraderie.

Hope you get your tickets TT.

I can't take some of the replies on this thread seriously. "You should'nt have moved": what are you, peasants who've tilled the family farm for years, or some inter-bred family who've lived on the Flowers estate for 5 generations? As for more deserving fans; the average crowd this year is about 20k. So plenty of others coming out of the woodwork for this.

As DubailPhil says, many of us have been supporting saints for years and, as season ticket holders originally at The Dell, have been to hundreds of matches (home and away). Lets have a bit more generosity of spirit and acknowledge we're a wide spread family and our desire to get to see the Saints is a great thing and not something for sniping.
