Rickie Lambert - top bloke

We had my nippers end of season presentation last night - there was a surprise guest and it turned out to be Rickie - can you imagine the lads faces when he walked in!!!

My nipper looked like a rabbit in a headlight looking at his hero.

Rickie stayed over an hour, presented trophies, had photos taken with all the players, managers and yes us sad old parents as well.

I had a bit of a chat about things and Saints and I even bought him a lemonade ;-). He said he knew we were under pressure next season, how much they were disappointed with not making play-offs and that they knew they had to work on breaking teams down.

He is off on a family holiday and a deserved break to Cyprus.

A top man who made all the kids and parents evening.

3m? they'd have to add another million and a bit onto that before we'd even start talking.

and what could city offer that we can't? Win a trophy here - or be a player in a mid-table championship team? I think the common sense would point to us being in the best position in the long-run. + with his rovers connections, it's a non-starter.

Okay yes we are a league one club atm, but some of the comments there are funny as ****.

"wouldn't pay more than £1m"

"not sure if he could play in the championship"

Reality check needed.

Who the F are Bristol City?

Rickie is on record saying he'd never move to Bristol City, even if they offered him a bloody good contract. Admittedly, the interview was done when he was a Rovers player, but still..... ;)

And yes, I've also heard good things about Rickie Lambert as a bloke as well. One of my friends is the owner of a company that paid to advertise at the JPT final. He went to SMS recently to collect his hoarding as a momento and met the likes of Alan Pardew and Rickie Lambert whilst he was there and said that Rickie is a genuinely nice bloke.

I followed your link and found another, once again from when Rickie was a Bristol Rovers player. Here he talks about his ambitions to eventually play in the Championship. Saints hadn't come come calling just yet. Such a modest, polite bloke, who seems quite appreciative that people think well of him. No big ego is he.

Also drinks in the Bedes Lea and Baddesley Arms quite often and is just one of the lads.

Only recently bought a house down here ( as opposed to renting, which most footballers at this level do ) , I think he is here for the long-term.

Top bloke.

I don't think Rovers fans would applaud him like they did when he played aginst them for us.

I think we're going to have a summer of rumour and more rumour in respect of our top players. Hopefully we'll face them down.

Including:

It is the Daily Hate though, so pinch of salt at the ready!

Moving to bristol City would be a step down. We're going up next season and we're a bigger club than them.

To be honest, if he did go there, you'd have to say that a strike force of Rickie and Maynard would be a good bet to get them promotion to the Prem.

The CCC is going to be a really weak league next season, wouldn't be at all surprised if Leeds finish in the top 2, and if the Skates do start on -17, I think they'd still stay up.

I can 2nd this, as a player for the mens 1st team of this youth side (I wasnt there myself) but have been told by Iain (youth manager) and seen the pictures of what a fantastic pro he was and how much the kids appreciated him turning up.

Got to say a massive thanks to him!!

The kids who play for this youth team are quailty!! (they'd beat our first team for sure) and seeing their hero turn up and act in such a professional way can only encourage them to continue to follow their dreams. Got to say congrats on them winning the Hampshire youth cup as well :-)

My worry with RLGM is that Pullis has fallen out with Kitson and Beattie, so Stoke will need a new target man. Also, some of the promoted teams might take a punt on him for the Prem, after ther problems that he caused the Skates. Other than that, Burnley are probably the only Chamionship club that could afford him.

Thanks we had a great year winning league and Hampshir cup, we now have one of our players going for Saints trials soon so we are doing something right at Compton ;-)

Shame there's nothing (again) about it on the OS.

Don't see why there would be. There are requests every year from lots of youth teams for players to attend, as many as possible turn up and all do a great job for the kids and representing the club.

What a top bloke! I remember Franny Benali doing a similar thing for one of my presentation nights as a kid. You don't get many people like that in football any more.

Oh and Bristol City... no chance!

I had Dennis Wise :smt081

Franny turned up and my nephews presentation and stayed the whole night. Absolutely nothing in it for him to still be doing the rounds, top bloke and I guess, some people are just nice guys.
