Carling cup round 1 draw details - Bournemouth at home

I suppose Northampton away is practically guaranteed. Either Bristol club away would suit me.

Why are Leicester, which is about 30 miles south of Nottingham, in the North pot, whilst Notts Co are in the South pot. So is Peterborough, which is about the same lattitude as Leicester. Norwich is on the same lattitude as the pair of them but in the South pot. Odd.

That annoys me.

Especially as Notts County is 124 metres further North than Nottingham Forest ( I just checked ) , so they have got the teams round the wrong way.

Because there are are two pools.... SEEDED and UNSEEDED teams.

There are 15 slots in both pools for northern teams and 20 slots in both pools for southern teams. They simply divide the unseeded teams into two geographic halves and the same with the seeded teams. Thus you can get a seeded team geographically further north in the southern seeded pot than a team further south in the unseeded northern pot.

Dusty Bin anyone?

Don't play them for years in a meaningful fixture, then rather like buses, three come along in quick succession.

Said with his Grumpy old man attitude this morning.

But should at least provide a good gate, and some overtime for Hampshire Constabulary.

What sort of crowd we looking at? I expect Bournemouth till take 2,500+.. not sure if they will sell-out though with it being a less meaningful game than a League game.

Oh well, at least it wasn't a boring draw like Northampton!

Peak holiday season,so despite the 2,500 away fans I doubt it will top 20,000 (unless tickets are reduced in price significantly).

I reckon they will sell their share, easy. I know it's not a league game and had this draw been later in the season after we've already met each other I'd agree with you. However as this will be our first meaningful meeting I think this will draw a big crowd from both sets of supports. As someone who lives in Bournemouth now, I am looking forward to this already.

Edit: Sorry I mis-read your post, I thought you were saying Bournemouth wouldn't sell their share. Agree that the game as a whole won't sell out.

Living close to Bournemouth this is a great draw for me, as long as we win of course. I think they will take a lot more than 2,500 when you consider it's only 45 mins from Bournemouth and how much it means to them.

they will take at least 5k. They have been waiting for years to play us.

A recipe for trouble, sadly it will make our meetings in the league more volatile as they will come down and play 'Billy Big Boots'.

The rivalry will become more intense from our side I suspect and perhaps our fans will soft spot for them will not be so evident in future.

I still dont count them as rivals, this will give them a chance to try and make it so

Pardew to field a reserve team for this so that we can concentrate on the league this year....?

I would expect Pardew to field his strongest side given how early the game comes in relation to the league programme. We'll still (hopefully) be building an unbeaten run and this will help nicely. I don't expect reserve teams until the 2nd round - unless we draw the few.
