In the Sun yesterday

IN MY DAY

Two faced bog roll of a newspaper, the day after Marcus's death was announced they broke the story, and referred to as Southampton FC .

Not really, the suspended their ban to write a respectful review of our owner. Fair play to them.

And fair play to them for sticking to their guns about the coverage ban. I actually find it quite amusing.

Just a thought, but has anyone considered that the Photographer ban may have been to do with Markus Liebherrs health? Possibly wanted control of the pictures? If he was ill but wanted to go to the games still.... I dunno..

Yes, makes perfect sense. Markus was ill so he only wanted official saints photographer to take photos of the players and the game.

I doubt it. But it would be a useful story to tell by NC to save face when he backs down as he inevitably will have do so.

Crumbs! I was agreeing with you! I wouldn't want photo's of myself looking ill in the paper either. I'd be so anti photos of me being ill appearing in the paper that I would ban all photographers from the game and then ban them from taking photo's of me elsewhere as well.

Apologies, so many sarky buggers on here that you never know.

Its a possible explanation anyway. When you own the club why should you feel uncomfortable about attending?

Who cares if this arse-wipe comic takes this childish and puerile stance? They're not even bright enough to realise that the end result will be that we gain loads of free publicity from it and everybody will take far more notice of us, especilly when we're topping the division. Some of the lower IQ "readers" might even believe that they're talking about the Skates.

I footy reporter from the sun was on the radio yesterday morning...stating as a FACT that coppell left brizzle because he did not want to sign james....

only a few mins later, the bristol city chairman phoned in (unplanned) and categorically stated that the jouno was so far from the truth and wondered where on earth he head that from and why he would write it as fact...

the red tops...dont you just love em

I think it's best you probably stopped the sarcasm in pretty much every thread you post in now.

Well, the journos from the Red Tops aren't exactly notable as shining examples of honesty and integrity, are they? If they are unable to fill their rags with proper news, then they are entirely capable of fabricating stuff, or publishing rumours dressed up as facts. All they have to say is that they are reporting sources close to the club/mangement/company/celebrity. If what they say is challenged, they state that they are not prepared to compromise their source.

I was trying to recall how the Red Top journos were portrayed in Spitting Image. Hyenas? Whatever it was, it was very fitting as many are the scum of the Earth.

According to todays Sunday Mirror they will not be having any match reports of our games while this ban on photographers is in place

How many match reports of our League 1 games did they have before this ban was in place?

Thus making their rag even less relevant to its readership. Nobody is going to buy it because of this puerile campaign, but many who bought it to read match reports involving us will now not bother. Brilliant! What affect do they think this will have on us? Most Saints fans will just read the match reports elsewhere, in the numerous alternative places, as will the fans of the teams we are playing.

Cortese will not back down

He will simply go back to Banking

Markus Leibherr was the ONLY reason why he was here

Regretably, that reason no longer exists

Whilst i agree with you Wes, i am concerned that we seem to be delibrately trying to upset the media, which may end in tears for us.

Not sure how just a nagging doubt

So no change there then. Unless there are different editions in different areas I haven't see a report on Saints for some time now in any newspaper (apart from the JPT Final). Outside the top 2 divisions teams don't usually get a more than a passing mention as far as I can see. Indeed the days of reporting on football matches seems to have long since passed, there is nothing in most column inches to suggest "reporters" actually attended a game, but instead they tend to pass comment on what is happening around the team instead. A few more years and most newspapers will be consigned to history with a bit of luck, they no longer serve any useful purpose (now that chip shops don't use them).

Some people still seem to have got this wrong. It was Cortese who persuaded ML to back him, not the other way around. Cortese was the catalyst, he wasn't brought in by Markus to run the Club.

Yeah right.

And walk away from the deal that he agreed with Marcus with regard to getting the club to the PL and the bonus cheque that would provide him.

He sure ain't gonna make THAT much money in the banking world at this moment

Ah, our great soothsayer and prophet of doom returns.

Your last great prediction was that Lowe would inevitably return once more and buy us out of administration.

Thankfully, you got that wrong as well.

Those saying the Sun fabricates stories and make things up are embarrassingly far from the truth. Law Firms such as Shillings will jump on any report that is un sourced and the Paper will be sued immediately. The Sun makes an absolute fortune, but doesn't "budget" for being sued twice a day.

If a paper made something up about you would you sue it? Of course you would! How many people are taking the Sun to Court today for libel? 0. If it made all/ most/ some of it's stories up surely there would be 100's of outstanding libel cases?????

I know the Sports Editor of the NOTW pretty well, Paul McCarthy, he has explained to me at lengh the depth what his reporters go into to confirm a story. Believe it or not 9 times out of 10 the story comes to the paper, not the other way round, Agents, Managers, Players, Chairmen, even wives are desperate to get a certain story out to engineer a pay rise, transfer, starting place etc. Anything that might be risque is checked with News Int legal team who double check validaty before the story runs.

Sorry, I know that doesn't fit with idiot's agendas (the "we're getting more exposure now than before" arguement is pityful) but all of it is fact.

...... Not .......... necessarily ............

As I hate Lowe more than most, I would have been the last person to actually think he would have bought us out of Admin. If I said anything like that, then the parsnip wine the vicar gave me must have been stronger than I thought

They don't necessarily lie, but they use a certain amount of creativity and choice in what they publish to paint a certain picture. The reason many don't sue is that they know there is enough truth mixed in there, that the last thing they want to do is bring it all up again by dragging it through the courts by suing. I don't trust what any journalists say, not just those of The Sun and will always try to read between the lines of anything they publish.

Exactly how much money does the S*n contribute to our turnover?

And how many Sun readers do we have here (not asking for confessions...I'd be embarrassed too!)

My point being if those who do stop buying the comic & put the money in someone else's pocket only one side of the equation loses money...& it ain't us!
