Odds for manager

There will be rioting in the streets if its Hart.

Hate to disagree with you, but I think a lot of people would be very unhappy to see Hart as manager. Can't really see fans lining the streets for him. Now O'Neill, on the other hand...

I'm a complete numpty when it comes to the old betting game, but if I put money on every name, would I make a profit?

well if you calculated the amount to put on each needed to break even in any event I guess you could have a flutter without actually losing anything cos that's what the bookies do in reverse..if you catch my drift...Of course if a long shot wins it makes it easier to make a profit, odds are calculated on bets received rather than probability so you just have to work out the reverse action.I know 2 professional gamblers, they are both ex maths professors but they're more into short odds card games and very complex roulette strategy but they live well, far better than most of us who stayed close to the academic way of life.

Odds are not usually a great indicator in these markets. I have seen loads of these betting markets where odds-on favourites never end up anywhere near the club they are supposed to be nailed on for. Surely, it is one thing for Cortese to sack Pardew when most thought he was doing a decent enough job, but to appoint someone like Paul Hart has to be sheer lunacy not because he has links with Portsmouth but simply because he does not have the right credentials for the job if Cortese is looking for someone as a long term appointment that could succeed in each division as we go up the leagues.

No, sorry, you lost me after "well if you...."

Thanks for the effort though.

My money is on Brown. He is the only one who has said that he wants the job, not sure who and when he said it, but was on here yesterday. He will be our man. I do not like the bloke but think he could do a good job for us, and that is all that matters.

Also someone has posted on the Echo comments that he is ITK and Brown is a 'certainty'.

I'd just like to take this opportunity to say that no-one from the club has approached me yet in connection with the vacant managerial position.

Marvellous.

That's really weird.

That would almost suggest that following a story being run on their sports news service about a particular manager, Sky have taken more money in bets on that manager than other bookies, wouldn't it?

What a strange coincidence!

Oh FFS.

It's not Paul Hart.

If Sky are so sure it will be him from their 'sources' why are they still offering odds on him on SKYbet?

Think about it! Sky make a rank outsider the favourite by dropping a rumour from 'sources', make that person the favourite on their own betting site to add a little bit of authority to the rumour, and then sit back and watch punters throw their money away!

.... yep.

Phil Brown looks more than likely for me.

That's good spot Benji, and a good reason to take it with a pinch of salt.

Is that legal?

Is that legal?

They've covered themselves on the reporting front by saying it's from an unnamed source, so nothing to go on there.

And the odds on him with Skybet probably came down naturally with people betting, so nothing to go on there.

Sky are a bookmaker, so unless they're reporting something solid, sourced properly and verifiable, I take no notice whatsoever, as they have a lot to gain from unsubstantiated rumours.

Sorry if already covered, but when solent said that 30 working managers have applied, what exactly does 'working' mean? Are they saying that all 30 applicants are currently employed, or that all 30 are recognised managers/coaches?
