Les Reed - has and will have NOTHING to do with the first team

The title "director or football" varies so much between clubs that it doesn't always mean the same thing. Les Reed's job at Saints is to oversee The Academy, Scouting, Sports Medicine and Equipment Procurement. To some that would be the role of a director of football even though Reed doesn't have it as a job title nor involvement with the first team.

Exactly what most of us knew, there was just a few idiots who enjoy adding 2+2, getting 5 and then using it as a stick to beat Cortese with.

Unfortunately they make up the largest percentage of this forums user base.

They'll be here shortly to twist those words or claim they are an outright lie.

Just "has" and "will have" or "had" as well ?

Curious if this is a new development, or something agreed as a T & C with the new guy...

basically...reed has not...never had and will not have any involvement in the first team..he came here and still does run staplewood/academy..

this little stick to beat NC is now broken.....on to the next one

It's a welcome clarification and it confirms the situation defined originally, before legend overtook fact.

As I understood it, the required reporting structure holds the player development/academy side in balance with - not subordinate to - first team affairs, and there will be a committee approach to the transfer area. Against that backdrop, there is a desire to develop a "Southampton style" - which is a combined and cooperative effort involving all player contact staff, youth and senior.

Beyond that, as Ron said, first team selection and tactics are the purview of the first team manager.

So Reed wasn't involved in the 4 man committee? And if he will have no involvement with the 1st team what was all that stuff about Pardew's sacking and the need to have a united approach or whatever he said? It made it sound like that it was not working, now he is saying that there will be no unified approach???

Gives more credence to the rumours that Pardew was only training with his first team squad and a couple of others, and refusing to let anyone else train with them.

So the business about NC and Reed interfering with Pardew, and that being the source of Pardews "attitude" is all bullsh*t then ?

How do we know that? Just because of a press release? Hmmmm So Pardew was lying when he said that he received a text fromNC querying his use of Guly for 5 mins?

Curiouser and curiouser.

but actually, have we ever heard pardew say he received that text?

if we're honest that is all based on complete and utter rumour.

Show me where Pardew has talked about a text? It is all rumours, which seem to have taken you in. it is more curious why so many Saints fans believe every rumour no matter what as the gospel truth.

So what if its not ?

NC didnt text him and tell him to put Goolie on, even in the rumour. He asked why Goolie didnt come on earlier. My understanding is that Goolie improved in the next game, so maybe NC was right.

Maybe this is even more evidence of Pardews "attitude"

Unless Cortese is a liar, yes.

We surely have to make some assumptions that he is not in fact 5 years old and does not tell lies. Nothing he has done so far, whether you agree with or not, indicates he is a liar liar pants on fire so perhaps we should take it as true, maybe?

As others have asked, please point me to where Pardew has ever mentioned this text.

As far as I'm aware the ONLY mention of it was from a journo who has ALWAYS slagged off Saints. AND, even there was such a text, how do we know in what context this 5 minutes was mentioned? It could have been NC wanting to learn a managers thinking in such a situation, or that as we were well in control of the match that maybe 10 mins would have been more useful for the new guy, or that another player (a tired Rickie, for example) could have benefitted from 10-15 mins rest at the end of a match we were in so much control of. Most certainly, the text COULD have begun, 'Well done. What a fantstic result! As an aside......'

Neither you, nor I, nor any of the others who are so quick to try and beat NC with any vague rumour, know the truth about this.

I await your 'pointing me to where Pardew stated the above' or 'your retraction of this statement' with total disbelief that either will happen.

accept he had no involvement in First Team affairs directly BUT did he have major involvement with players in first team squad and signings because i cannot get my head round why we did not replace Papa and Antionio.

They were so instrumental in our successes last season to not replace them was and is a massive mistake

So it is okay to believe one bit of gossip is not true and another is? AP has been beaten with all kinds of rumour, are you going to defend him in the same way?

Actually your version of the text is probably right. As we all know, his praise of Pardew after the cup win was so fulsome.
