Come on then. It's the game you're all going to love.

The day will come. Not tomorrow, and probably even not next week, but someday Nigel Adkins will leave his post at St Mary's.

But when? And how? Call it a long-game sweepstake.

All entries posted below, winner will win a top notch prize hand delivered by me.

Start your entry with Nigel Adkins will leave Southampton on.... and you must be as specific as possible with date and reasoning.

My entry:

Nigel Adkins will leave Southampton on 17th January 2012.

After steering Saints into the Championship through the playoffs, Saints start life in the league above brightly and are solid mid table until early December. A nightmare goal-less Christmas and New Year period including being bundled out of the FA Cup by Bury sees our confidence shattered and a plummet down the table. Cortese panics and sacks Adkins giving his replacement the last weekend of the transfer window to bring in reinforcements.

Roll up, it's just for fun. Remember - he can leave at any time for any reason, including retiring in 2024, becoming a freeman of the city after that historic eighth global Champions League win.

Sir Nigel Adkins will leave in 2028 after Saints fail to retain the Champions League Final, losing on pens to AC Milan, veteran left back Gareth Bale scoring Milan's winner.

Alex Chamberlain will take over, with Paul Wotton's son Chris as assistant. Adkins leaves to take up a position within the Liebherr family business as a mark of respect for his ernest work in realising Markus' dreams.

After the fifth Prem title in a row Chairman Nicola Cortese was ousted by fans for failing to reintroduce the payment plan, ending 15 years of SISA campaigning. Voice of the fans Nick Illingsworth said....

CB, I've got a pretty well developed sense of humour but this might not end up being funny.

The guy has just arrived here, full of commitment and optimism, and already we have a sweepstakes running on when he will leave/be fired.

Just imagine what some of our little journo spies could do with that, especially as some people on here have made it clear that they'd rather he didn't come here at all.

This thread is born out of the way we expect things to happen at our club,we expect a change of manager as frequently as Wayne Rooney visits brothels.

The sad fact is I can't see anything changing......tbh frequent changes of manager doesn't bother me,in fact I welcome it as I know it does no real harm, but the reason I can't see it changing is because the club is always striving for instant success, chasing the big money dream of getting back to the promised land of the premiership, all the time selling the dream to the fans who then get impatient and want instant success.

It's a vicious circle of expectation which the last few managers (since strachan) has found hard to live up to.

What an incredibly depressing thread. Speculating in this is symptomatic of this site, football in general, and the world at large...speculation based on failure and negativity.

I wonder how (almost) anyone on here ever achieved anything when their first though is one of failure.

I accept the range of possibility stayed but by asking the question in the way you did you are leading the answer in a closed mind, negative manner.

Someone at some stage WILL manage this club for many many years, maybe even more than Ted or Lawrie. How many Ssints fans in 1977 thought we will go up AND stay there for 27 years?

Football has become synonymous with the society of wanting everything now if not before and if that doesn't happen try something else.

It is my sincere hope that Nigel Adkins (and NC) are here for the next decade. Of course in this day and age most people in every day life will stag in any job fir about 2-3 years. Therefore, football MUST adhere to this!!!

Well, at least he goes there to get screwed. Saints fans, on the other hand ...

That was really my point.

Adkins will leave us in July/Aug 2012.

He will be appointed as manager at Spurs to replace Twitchy who will become the new England manager after England again fail to impress at the Euro championships.

NC will be unable to appoint a relacement for 4 weeks as his office will be buried under applications to replace him, A role that will eventually be taken by Jose Mourinho in a vain attempt to take over the England role when we fail to impress at the World Cup in 2014

Whether this is a joke thread or not, or pure speculation, this is the type of nonsense I was talking about the other day. Already, subconciously, the skids are being put under Adkins. For Christ's sake, can Saints supporters just support the new manager, without qualification, for once..?

Just leave the negative speculation for much, much later. Otherwise the poor bloke doesn't stand a chance.

Your reaction says more about your subliminal view of Adkins than my original post ever did. It's a sweepstake on how Adkins will do, not when he will be sacked. Lawrie Mac, Strachan, Hoddle and Alan Ball were all successful but you may have notice they are no longer managing us. They've left, they're gone.

The average life span of a manager is 18 months. Your idea that we WILL have someone manage us for, say, a decade I think is pie in the sky, but I accept September 2020 as your entry into the sweepstake.

You have a better chance of ****ging Miss World than predicting this one.

I will even throw in my 500k yacht if anyone gets the right day.

PS bad thread idea CB.

The fact that I am offering to hand deliver a prize suggests I am not expecting people to "get the right day".

Thanks for the feedback but the most depressing thing I've read on this forum came from you the other day, with your view that, under Adkins we will STILL be in League one come 2012-13 so not in the NPC until 2013-4 at the earliest. Suicidally depressing stuff.

At least in my prediction I have us promoted this season.

Again, who says my thread is negative. Your knee jerk that YOU THINK this thread is about failure and sackings says more about your real opinion of Adkins than anything I've said.

If you think he's going to be a success and only leave once we're in the Prem and he is poached by Everton, fine. Say it.

One day Adkins will no longer be our manager. That is not a judgement of success or failure. One day Ted Bates was no longer our manager. I'm not sure he failed.

Glad to see everyone has really got into the fun side of this sweepstake. Many thanks to those that have "got it", though. Cheers the heart the forum is not entirely stocked with humourless bores.
