why are we so poorly supported?

Morning Nick - only me and you with insomnia then...! Should we humour these Cherries fans, they are loving it ain't they. Now a whole 3 points ahead of us, can't see us hauling them back in eh...!!

Talk about 15 minutes of fame - these boys really know how to milk it don't they.

Edit: and reality then hits in....:

so using their figures from those two links - their away support to see us was 540% higher than their away support to watch the local league leaders yesterday when they didn't sell out!

Think they still feel embarressed that their first thought when they got promoted last season (fans and players) was to sing that they are going to St Marys!

Yep that's about the size of it. Personally I take it as a bit of a 'back handed compliment' that they are so happy to be above us (even in League 1 FFS). But for a set of fans who struggle to make 6k for most home games to have a go at us is laughable.

When you look at how our figures often surpass that of most CCC and some Prem Clubs, it is kind of funny that the 6K are having a poke - perhaps they are just not too clever...!

A couple of days after the match I thought I was making a big deal of Saints' "tackling" but these pics show it as reckless as I remember it

Gotta feel for the guy, some of those 'tackles' look, well frankly, shocking, honest....! ;)

I thought that Daren Wheelers column in "The Pink" today summed the Saints - Cherries situation up perfectly.

And so it came to pass that in the year of our lord 2010 on October the 2nd, the great south coast derby was decided. I was walking out of St Marys on Saturday and decided that Saints only have one real derby…. And it’s not with Bournemouth.

Despite getting caught up with 50 Bournemouth hooligan wannabes on the way up to St Marys, not much could dampen my feeling that Saints need promotion and need it soon. Not for reasons of finance or status but just to get us away from those Portsmouth wannabes down Dorset way.

For some Bournemouth fans the trip to St Marys was a sign, assign that the tide is turning and they are on their way to their rightful place as south coast top dogs. It’s quite obviously nonsense and judging by the gulf in class seen on Saturday, both on and off the pitch, it’s going to be a long time before they will be. All I saw on Saturday was a set of fans that obviously have issues.

If there ever was a sign that a set of fans has issues then surely songs such as "Premier league you're having a laugh" (at a League 1 game) and “We’ve got more points than you (when in October) are a such a sign. They were probably the lamest football songs ever....

Saturday’s game told us despite the fact that we loathe and despise each other, there really is only one south coast derby and it sure as hell isn’t Bournemouth. It’s Portsmouth. Bell ringing, past dwelling, overspending, knuckle dragging Portsmouth. When you compare the sheer adrenaline rush of League One Saints scoring against Premier League Pompey to the mild joy at scoring against the big club near Boscombe then you realise there’s no substitute.

From their rather ridiculous chairman to their rather obsessive fans, Bournemouth are really desperate for attention. It’s rather like that attention starved kid at family parties, desperately playing up, trying to get you to notice them. The sad truth is that I really don’t care about Bournemouth and I’d hazard a guess that the vast majority of Saints fans feel the same way. It’s purely one way traffic on the local rivalry stakes there..

If you ever needed a glaring example of this then look no further than the song they sang when they got promoted.. "Que sera sera, whatever will be will be; we're going to St Marys, que sera sera.” which must rank, with the other two songs I’ve mentioned, as some of the most embarrassing songs ever to come out of a football ground.

Local issues aside the win was a much needed boost and an even more needed three points. It’s a sad reflection on our season so far that it took us until October to register a win at home. It’s rather typical of Saints that as a fan you worry that rather than be a springboard for the success it could well be back to square one come Saturday.

On the positive side Saints looked far better than they have all season. From the back four to the middle four, the team looked composed and confident… a quality that has been lacking so far this season. There can be little doubt that the talent is there at St Marys but for some reason the team have appeared to be a lack confidence from the very start of this season. Whether this is down to the change of management is anyone’s guess but there was a world of difference between the side that finished last season and started this one.

The hope is that despite the fact that none of Saturday’s goals came from open play, the win against Bournemouth is a springboard to something better. The players are there, the ability is there, it would appear that all that was missing was that enigmatic x factor that separates the champions from the also rans. Here’s hoping that the arrival of Nigel Adkins gets the players playing anywhere near where they did towards the tail end of last season. If he can, then what a season we can have…

We only managed a small crowd, and can only get half decent crowds against the football greats of this league.

Those retards do know that Tranmere took about 20 people with them? And as it's been pointed out already that after taking 500 fans to Brighton they really can't comment about attendances ever again...

Shockingly pathetic...

Daren lets not forget " your ground´s to big for you" coming from a club who can´t fill a 10,000 capacity 3 sided stadium :-)

And then they boast about taking 4000 to St Marys when their average attendance is woeful....

6,823 against Exeter

6,103 against Carlise

5,501 against Dagenham

They then take more than half their home attendance to St Marys and then have the nerve to say it was our cup final??

Pitiful...

Please Bournemouth, take your begging bowl and the field of potatoes on your shoulders and feck off...

Let's not work ourselves up in some real dislikes of these western neighbours. They are desperate for us to hate them in return, and nothing deflates them more then a curmudgeonly attitude of "it must be nice for you to do quite well with no money and a mad chairman and all that, well done".

We've got our derby which will never change. What have they got? Weymouth? They'd love to wind us up. Let's not get involved and let them remain that 'nice little team from the seaside'.

FFS are they deluded or what?

We get over 19k for a match against Merseyside's third team who are bottoim of the league and they can't sell out their allocation against Brighton! And this is why

Withdean is a sh*thole, it's expensive and I could watch it on TV... There's 3 very good reasons why I, along with the other 300 or so that would norm have gone, didn't go...

What great fans!!

Interestingly, today I was talking to a Bournemouth fan who said that he wouldn't mind staying in league one with some success and his team playing good football. He carried on to say that it is all very well getting promoted but how are they going to strengthen their side and pay higher wages with no more money coming into the club. He also said on the other hand if you get promoted you will strengthen your side sufficiently to go for promotion again and get big crowds. He is obviously proud of how his team is performing but has no trouble in seeing the real world.
