Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 5 November, 2010 Share Posted 5 November, 2010 http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~2178493,00.html Just had a team news text (from Orange rather than the official text service), which says Bignall's loan has come to an end. On checking the original story on the OS (above), it says it was due to expire yesterday, so it seems as if it's probably true (although they've been known to be wrong before!). Shame, if it has come to an end, as he offered us a pacy option from the bench. Would've liked to have kept him and Chaplow really.
merrimd Posted 5 November, 2010 Share Posted 5 November, 2010 How likely was it to be extended really though? He signed an extension to his contract at Reading days after coming down here so he is obviously very much in their minds for the future.
Nexstar Posted 5 November, 2010 Share Posted 5 November, 2010 If he doesn't extend it I would like us to find another pacey attacker, one with a chance of coming in permanently.

TopGun Posted 5 November, 2010 Share Posted 5 November, 2010 I think it was just insurance for Barnard's arrest anyway.

Whitey Grandad Posted 5 November, 2010 Share Posted 5 November, 2010 I'm not a great fan of loans, unless it's with a view to buy. He had a couple of good chances on Tuesday though.

Window Cleaner Posted 5 November, 2010 Share Posted 5 November, 2010 SSN say he's gone on loan to Southend. Didn't get anywhere near enough game time with us for Reading to extend the loan (even if we had wanted to).I guess the object of loaning out young players to lower league clubs is for them to get pitch time and not bench time. doddisalegend Posted 5 November, 2010 Share Posted 5 November, 2010 Didn't see enough of him to form an opinion on him really, wonder if Doble might get a chance as a backup striker now. Apart from oxo the youngsters don't really seem to be breaking into the first team.
Saint_Ash Posted 5 November, 2010 Share Posted 5 November, 2010 We need to be getting a top quality striker in the January window, I think we're ok for the time being over the next couple of months but some like a Graham Alexander from Watford would be good. Get another top quality striker in, sign up Chappers on a permenant and we'll have pretty much a complete squad that can win this league.

Chez Posted 5 November, 2010 Share Posted 5 November, 2010 ITK or suggesting him? I know that only a couple of days ago Warnock said he can go on loan. we can only loan Championship youngsters or out of favours and uneeded. Not all that many of those available. Don't forget there is Morgan, Lallana, Mills and Martin not to mention the countless other youngsters that we've had to sell. true but Morgans not really come through our youth system, Adams been a first teamer for a while, Mills is apparently good enough for the championship but not us and Martain after a promising start this season can't even get on the bench. I just wonder why we're loaning in other teams promising youngsters (like Bignall) rather than giving our own youth players the chance to step up. Bignall was only brought in as a back up it would seem so why not give Doble (or other youth teamers) that job? a bit of time in the first team can't hurt. Bringing on say Doble at 4-0 up against the daggers is surely better than giving someone elses youth player experince.

I think you mean Danny Graham, Graham Alexander plays for Burnley and is almost a pensioner! I don't think a striker is the priority in the window tbh, extending Guly's loan until the end of the season or buying him should be the first thing we do. Chaplow's loan expires on Dec 31st so that pretty much sets him up to move here on the day the window opens. Then we need to look at players who we need to replace at the end of the season. Jaidi is out of contract and past it unfortunately, so we need a big dominant CB, Seaborne I don't think plays that role in the same way that Jaidi does. CM is also another concern, because we basically have Morgan, Hammond, Chaplow and Wotton at the moment. We need another CM I think who has a bit of steel because i'm not sure that Chaplow is commanding enough in his play, he's very terrier-like and not massively physical in his approach to defending. According to another thread Wotton might be on his way out (loan) I assume that with Chaplow coming in he's figured he won't be getting much playing time. The problem is finding players who are any good who want to be sat on the bench, this is what the devolpment squad should be for to back up the first team during injuries and suspensions. Claridge on one of those bbc blog thingies he does said as a player he rather play in the Aldershot first team than the Liverpool reserves I imagine any player worth his salt has a similair outlook. you can only make the squad so big at some point you have to except that you may hit a bad patch (in injuries and suspensions) a deal with it then, thats what emergency loans are for. paulwantsapint Posted 6 November, 2010 Share Posted 6 November, 2010 Was Bignall brought in because Barney was under arrest, Guly was untested, Lallana was not 100% fit & Doble was sitting on wales bench leaving Rickie as only striker ?

Think that sums it up - would like to see Doble get the opportunity rather than bring in another young loan from elsewhere. Fair enough if we're bringing in quality that is going to improve the first 11 but let's give our young players the break rather than other teams. Andy_Porter Posted 9 November, 2010 Share Posted 9 November, 2010 Seemed a strange signing IMO Lambert, Guly and Barnard will want to play pretty much every game then there's Connolly and Lallana who can play upfront, Doble must be hoping for a chance soon as well. Sometimes a loan can just harm the players you've got in the squad as it is.
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 9 November, 2010 Author Share Posted 9 November, 2010 I figured it was to cover for Connolly's injury and any absence Barnard might have had following's his infamous night's work but, as it turned out, he didn't miss any games.
