Pompey loss - twice

No-one picked up on the last part of the first article...

Chamberlain said: 'I always thought Alexander would do well.

'Now they are in the third division it has opened the door to the first team for him and he is exciting to watch.

'There are clubs interested in him, we'll just have to see what happens.'

reading those artciles does beg the question: if your son was offered an academy sport by both Saints and Pompey, and the roles were reversed in that they are by far the superior set-up, who would you plump for?

Me? I'd send my kid to whoever gave the best chance of becoming a top player, so would let him go to Pompey. Plenty on the News articles would put their rivalry before the kids' interests.

Chamberlain's dad being a Pompey fan isn't exactly going to work in our favour. I'd imagine like Lallana, it's promotion or they're off, and understandably. Likewise, it'll probably be the same situation in the Championship, as neither will want to hang around there for long. I want to see both in the Premiership with us, that's the **** thing about being in League 1.

Not that much of a fan that he used to work as an academy coach at Staplewood

Quote from David Furst in the second article:

"I remember watching him (OXO) at the Hampshire Schools' under-14s trials at Winchester College. He was the best player on the park by a mile.

'Yet he didn't get close to Hampshire Schools mainly because of his size."

That is why the government are right to cut funding for school sports, well for football anyway. Teachers are not interested, and the Schools FA is way behind the times in football coaching

Serves them right. They choseto spend their money (well someone's!) on so called elite players in order to "buy success". Their choice and now they still have a sh*t tip of a ground and no training facilities of their own.

We are fortunate that whoever has been in charge of our club regardless of their performance have always realised the importance of the infrastructure and The Academy.

Possibly we only lost out on Anderton but at 15/16 he did not stand out amongst his peers. I know because my brothers his year group. At that time he was not good enough for us because the standard was very high.

Without foundations in facilities and youth development no club deserves success.

I can't believe that no one has noticed that Pompey tried to poach at least two players from our Academy - and probably more than that - bit like they poached Cranie.

I know of at least one season ticket holder at Saints whose son plays in Pompey's youth academy but is a Saints fan who attends games and wears the shirt! He's desperate to switch to Saints though!

To be fair funding for sport in schools isn't intended to diredctly boost the prospects of a tiny handful of talented footballing youngsters and I doubt it has anything to do at all with county youth teams, they've been around for years.

Have a read of the comments section of the article about Ox and the P*mpey fans talking about how they would send their offspring to Saints academy, and then have a listen to or read Cortese's comments about developing our training facilities further. If it makes me a gullible to believe all the NC stuff that's coming out at the moment I'm not that bothered as I quite like this positive feeling of optimism.

Its been a few years since I heard anything about Crewe and their amazing success of bringing through players, and wondered what their actual facilities are like or if its down to quality coaching... Found this link to an article that references the top youth training academies we're not listed but NC's vision is that we will be. Not sure whether I should s****** or maintain a healthy level of skepticism over the last ambition.
