SuperMikey Posted 9 December, 2010 Share Posted 9 December, 2010 Gutted for the guy, he's worked so hard to overcome his injuries and then he just gets knocked back on his arse again.
hypochondriac Posted 9 December, 2010 Share Posted 9 December, 2010 Probably the last time we will see him. Shame because he is a nice guy.
Colinjb Posted 9 December, 2010 Share Posted 9 December, 2010 This must be the end of the line for him here now. Far far too injury prone to ever be of any real use.
IFHP Posted 9 December, 2010 Share Posted 9 December, 2010 This must be the end of the line for him here now. Far far too injury prone to ever be of any real use. Yes agree. His contract must be up in the summer and its not worth renewing. Shame but he is never fit enough to justify a new contract.
madruss Posted 9 December, 2010 Share Posted 9 December, 2010 Surely we have to recall Puncheon now. AOC can't last 90 minutes, and at the moment Butterfield is the 'impact sub' who'll be replacing him each game.
skintsaint Posted 9 December, 2010 Share Posted 9 December, 2010 least Holmes got his 45mins yearly appearance in.
Andy_Porter Posted 9 December, 2010 Share Posted 9 December, 2010 What a shocker! Honestly didn't see that coming when we loaned out Puncheon. He has been a injury ridden liability ever since we signed him. Would be half decent at this level if he had two working knees.
saint_stevo Posted 9 December, 2010 Share Posted 9 December, 2010 its a shame, because when fit he is one of the best wingers at the club. He just spends too much time in the treatment room
jasoneuelllfanclub Posted 9 December, 2010 Share Posted 9 December, 2010 the OS injuries and suspensions page mentions no injuries and the brentford preview classed him as "doubtful". I know they like to keep injury situations private so I ask what is the point of having an injury list page if they dont use it or keep it up to date? Obviously anyone who saw him against cheltenham would know he was in serious pain therefore this is not shock news albeit very disapointing news. thesaint sfc Posted 9 December, 2010 Share Posted 9 December, 2010 What a terrible waste. Another player that is just too injury prone and spends too much time in the treatment room with Connolly.
Deano6 Posted 9 December, 2010 Share Posted 9 December, 2010 He'll be back. He's young, talented, and can't be on much money having been signed in the cheap kids and administration days. So not much risk in keeping him around for next season to see if he can do it. He has the potential to do a job in the league above. Still, we'll need a replacement soon having lost him and Puncheon. This. He's 23 FFS!
Colinjb Posted 9 December, 2010 Share Posted 9 December, 2010 This. He's 23 FFS! How many players with the severity andamount of injuries he's had in that time span have ever gone on to prosper?
sandwichsaint Posted 9 December, 2010 Share Posted 9 December, 2010 Shame, decent player when he plays but I think we need to go back to Derby and check if he came with any sort of warranty; they certainly saw us coming with this one.
St Marco Posted 9 December, 2010 Share Posted 9 December, 2010 Feel sorry for the guy. But as others have mentioned time to move on. You can't really have a player who plays a few games a year in your squad. If he is injury prone in his early twenties then it will just get worse as the body doesn't recover as quick as he gets older. Better to give the chance to one of the youngsters now i think. Cabrone Posted 9 December, 2010 Share Posted 9 December, 2010 This. He's 23 FFS! Even more reason to fear the worst. If his body can't cope at 23 then I think it's over for him. Real shame as I rated him.
Bailey Posted 9 December, 2010 Share Posted 9 December, 2010 A real shame. He had obviously impressed Adkins in training to put himself into the first-team fold. Such a bad time to suffer ANOTHER long-term injury. As others have said, it's more than likely that we'll release him at the end of his current contract, but I hope this isn't the end for Holmes. When he's fit, he has a lot to offer. Maybe he'll get a new deal at a League One/Two club on a pay-as-you-play basis?

doddisalegend Posted 9 December, 2010 Share Posted 9 December, 2010 (edited) its a shame, because when fit he is one of the best wingers at the club. He just spends too much time in the treatment room How can you make that assement? he hasn't played enough football to really earn the title "one of the best" surely? I saw him take a couple of good corners in the last 10mins of a match this season other than that ............ krissyboy31 Posted 9 December, 2010 Share Posted 9 December, 2010 Might as well pay up his contract now TBH. Doubt we'll see him in a Saints' shirt again!
ken Posted 9 December, 2010 Share Posted 9 December, 2010 Does anyone know if this is the same injury that has re-occured or a new injury, could be that he has just suffered bad luck with 2 serious injuries, seems a bit harsh to write him off without knowing the problem. krissyboy31 Posted 9 December, 2010 Share Posted 9 December, 2010 (edited) Harsh or not, we can't afford to carry players that we can never get out on the the football pitch. We've been through it before with Svensson and Pahars (both great players for us but useless in their final couple of seasons). As far as I know his original injuries where knee related and this is his ankle.

Sarcasm aside i do agree with you, i've never found him to be a particularly great player, a few decent crosses here and there don't make a player. I do however have sympathies for him, it must be devastating.

the wedge Posted 10 December, 2010 Share Posted 10 December, 2010 Horribly gutted for the lad, not many nicer people around than him and he doesn't deserve to be this prone to injury. I think age is on his side for now, just hope he can deal with yet another setback. Good luck feller.
