Daily Mail: "Lallana offered bumper 3 year deal"

everything crossed. Although I have a source close to Adam and she expects him to turn down the offer in favour of a move to the PL

During this January window or in the summer?

He'll only get regular football in a relegation threatened Prem side so any short term move to the Prem will result in us leap frogging him season after next anyway.,,,

I was going back over some old "Pinks" over the last few weeks and I noticed an article about Adam signing a new contract in Nov 2006 when he was 18 (4 Nov 2006).

A quote from it is worth a mention

"I've been here since I was 12 ....... I have had my fall backs, maybe more than most with my heart problem, but I have got past those and ..... I had that problem two years ago and back then there was no way I thought I would be where I am now..."

A couple of points :-

1/ A number of other clubs have dumped youth team players as soon as a heart problem is identified, however Saints stuck by Adam and allowed him to fulfil his dream of becoming a pro footballer.

2/ I don't know what the op was, but any buying club might have issues with player insurance (higher premiums ?) because of the op.

I'd suggest that Adam speaks to the many Ex Saints, who thought they were better than this club, and as to how they faired, but not Gareth as he has made it at the top. Adam is much better than L1, definitely CCC, maybe lower PL. IMO

Nearly everyone who leaves ends up doing well.

Baird, Bale, Jones, Walcott... Even Surman is playing way above our level with Norwich.

He will probably leave before too long and I can't blame him for that, he is a class above anyone in our side or the league. Fantastic talent.

Theo, Bale, Delap, Higginbotham, Fuller, Jones, Baird, McGoldrick, Best, Blackstock, Surman, Mills?

People seem to forget he's not a 'young' player anymore, he'll be 23 come May, so probably the right time for him to begin to move on. It would however be a shame if he let his contract expire and leaving us with a bit of compensation, as even with this "bumper 3 year contract", I'd still expect Premiership clubs to be after him in the summer.

If AL and AC have any sense they'll stay. Let's face they will both be playing in the PL with SFC in 2 seasons!! Patience is all that is needed and we need to offer both near to PL salary - or a bonus to keep them based on promotion/goals scored/assists - to keep them both.........

2 seasons can be a long time in football, it would be a brave player to turn down PL football now for a chance of PL in two seasons time.

If I was him I would be tempted to delay talks until the end of the season. Will miss out on 5 months higher pay but will know what league we are in and be able to get a big signing on fee.

totally agree. He clearly enjoys playing for Saints and has not let contract talks affect his performances so probably happy to waiting until season is over before deciding his future. If we go up he will stay if we don't then he will go simple as that !!

.

Yep I agree. If we do go up this year then I don't personally believe he will go. I have felt for a long time that the loyalty the club showed him when he had his heart surgery may well have more impact than some people think.

Also - he could (and it's a big could) be playing Premier League football with Saints in just over 18 months time, and he'll still only be 24. That's worth pondering over IMO.

Arent we getting a little carried away expecting the PL in 2 years. Not surprised some fans are calling us arrogant.

Chamberlain is happy and going nowhere and that comes from the young man himself. Move on with this story

Liverpool offer him a five year deal, a million pound signing on fee and quadruple his wages. Chamberlain is even happier and goes North. This story won't go away. Enjoy every game he plays for us cos it will be damn hard to turn down a PL offer over the next 12 months.

I suspect that the best we can hope for is that he signs on the understanding that if he gets a really good offer we will not stand in his way. That way we get a good fee for him. I think that some posters are denigrating him in saying that a lower level premiership club is the best he can hope for. He looked very comfortable against the Skates last year (OK - they got relegated) but he looked just as comfortable against Bolton this year. He is premiership class already. If we could only persuade him to hang in there for another season and a half with the promise that we will let him go if we don't make the premiership.....

In America or Australia (for example) they would call it having a positive attitude and winning mentality. Only in Britain is having such "can do" thoughts deemed to be arrogant.

That said, it's not surprising when a typical British child over the decades has the "It's the taking part, not the winning that counts" mantra drummed into them from an early age....

Have you seen where Leeds, Norwich and Millwall are in the Championship? There isn't much of a gap between the leagues. None of the promoted sides altered their sides that much, nor have the spending power of Saints, yet are all in the promotion race halfway through this season.

Devil's advocate alert....

Bolton did rest 9 of the 'first choice' 11 players who started Bolton's preceding Premier League game vs West Ham.

As such, I think it's probably more realistic to say Adam has looked comfortable when playing against teams who are, in effect, good Championship level. He's yet to play against a decent / full-strength Premier League side.
