Has anybody ever stayed at a Hotel where Saints team were also staying before a game?

Have ended up in Hotels with Millwall, Leicester and Charlton in recent years, usually on a Monday night ahead of a Tuesday fixture, however never found the Saints.

I wondered where Saints had spent last 3 nights ahead of the Hartlepool game? Do they have a favourite Hotels to use in each region or do they just use the nearest 4/5 star hotel?

4 nights away and a 300 mile drive back on Tuesday night/early Wednesday morning is along time away from familes and must have an impact on the team ahead of the Swindon game.

I think that you might find that a road trip for Rochdale and Hartlepool was on the cards before Saturdays postponement. Finding 15 ish rooms on Saturday for 2 nights would not have been left to someone Googling on their iPhone at 9am Saturday Morning sat at the back of the bus.

No great hardship being away on "business" for 5 days, probably a bit of a giggle as there seems to be a good team spirit in general. It's not unheard of for teams on their travels to use other teams training facilities, quite a few have used Staplewood down through the years.

Back in the mid-90s I was on a works p1ss-up in the Midland Hotel (Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza) in Manchester - at the time, the poshest hotel in the city. We were in an upstairs function room and we could look down on the main hotel bar, where the entire Liverpool team (well, certainly all the "Spice Boys") were playing cards before playing Man City the next day. None of them seemed to be drinking, however David James was smoking a fat cigar - have seen a few keepers smoking - saw Peter Schmeichel in a Manchester hotel bar smoking the day after he got chipped by Davor Suker in Euro 96.

Oh, and I copped that night, so all in all quite a worthwhile evening, although she turned out to be a bit of a space cadet (very tidy though).

Stayed a couple of times before at the Hilton in Croydon before Crystal Palace games and on one occasion under George Burley, he and his training staff were still boozing it up when I went to bed at midnight with a table full of bottles of wine and Becks. Also during the day outside the hotel I was chatting with Kenwyne Jones & Ricardo Fuller, where as Jones was polite and very intriged by my mobile phone??? Fuller was making it quite clear what he thought of us Saints fans....... The other occasion was at The Mercury in Exeter in Poortvliets' era where they aere at the hotel prior to the game and I had a good chat with him and he talked a lot of sense and seemed a top guy, shame that he was out of his depth a bit with club spirralling downwards.

I don't see why this should make a difference - too much is made of minor factors like this, football teams are too mollycoddled by far.

I'd quite like 4 nights away in a hotel with the lads with a game of football thrown in, and they get paid for it.

Didn't like our attitude towards him and was basically calling us ars**oles for the way he was being treated by us at the time. Kenwyne was almost trying to change what he was saying to not cause a problem for him as it certainly did not help his cause with me as a supporter but it obvious to me that he did not want to be at the club.

Blackpool a few years ago, I think we drew 2-2. I was woken up by banging on the door. I opened and it was Alex Ostlund (sp?) He had the wrong floor. I think I shouted Jesus at him before he said bye.

Had to share a lift with BWP and Nathan Dyer, who were just about to find about that whole theft situation....

Jason Dodd and Nigel Pearson had breakfast with us, nice touch.

Mid 90s, stayed at the same hotel before a match at Sheffield Wednesday.

Ended up playing cards in the bar with MLT and a few others till quite late.

Wednesday are staying at the Village near the B,mouth hospital for the Bompey game tonight, maybe we should go encourage them!

I reckon they are staying here, other football teams who are playing in the North East tend to stay here. Its only about half an hour from Hartlepool and has all the top notch facilities etc they woudl need:

No expense spared then and a decent location for a few days away and a little more than just a pool to use. hopefully not to relaxed though, before tonight.

Have been in Village Hotels/Holiday Inn type locations, when coming across other teams.

Do most teams when visiting St Marys still use The DeVere or Mariott at Botley or other locations?

They stayed in a hotel in Bury over the weekend, a colleague of mine was staying in the same hotel.

He had a chat with Adkins in a lift on Friday night and said he was a good bloke.

He also said after the game was cancelled on Saturday, Adkins made them all go to the hotel gym for a work out alongside hotel guests! I will try and find out which hotel it was.

Yes,Kenwood Hall in Sheffield prior to the Blades game in the George Burley era. We were a little surprised how little to players talked to each other. James Beattie turned up at the hotel on Fri evening for a drink with some of his former team mates (he was playing for the Blades next day and had a stinker). Good day on the Sat,won 2-1 I think Rasiak 2

I pity the Bulgarian national side at Euro 2004, staying in the Novotel with me in Povoa de Varzim. The nearest pitch was next door, and a delightful combination of dust and mud.

Oh, and it was about £40 a night, a stone's throw from the beach, and the only place in Northern Portugal that still had rooms that week.

Start of the 04/05 season I played Golf at the Forest of Arden & stayed in the Marriott hotel on the course. After the round I was wandering round to reception when team coach pulled up. We were playing Villa next day. Had a great chat with quite a few of the players. Beats didnt really want to know but Crouchie, Telfer, Anders & Paul Smith were all top blokes and happy to chat.

I worked in Glasgow for 2 months with a mate and while there the Glasgow rangers team turned up as they played Celtic the next day. Surreal sitting on the mezzanine playing FIFA and the half the Glasgow squad challenging us to a game before someone came and took the tv as the team needed it in another room. We took the ps2 back to the room to the small crappy tv and by the time we came back the team had vanished. Spoke to their sub keeper at the time for quite a while who I think is their number 1 now.

Not saints related I know but not like me to be in that kind of situation so worth sharing I thought. :o)

Perhaps Martin was asking why he never got a game or why he wasn't even on the subs bench. One of this season's great mysteries.

Was staying at the De Vere and had breakfast at the next table to Paul Telfer the day after he had signed for the Saints !

Much to my wife's embarrassment I struck up a conversation with him (he had his lady and kid in tow!) and asked him if he reckoned he would get a place in the team straightaway, he said that there was virtually no chance but, lo and behold, a few hours later, he played the whole game !

Thereafter (according to the masses on Saintsforever) he was deemed to be Strachan's 'bastard son' !

Personally I thought he did ok for us and have to say that he came across as a pretty good bloke during that short chat !

Stayed in the same hotel as the squad on the pre-season tour of Norway a few years back. Got to the hotel fairly early in the morning and went out for a walk, came back and there was a sea of black sports bags in the lobby. Spotted a Saints carrier bag amongst them and thought at least there was another Saints fan there!

Next thing I knew Claus and Burley walked past me, that's when I twigged what the sports bags were for! :p

Had a good time, Saganowski even bought me a drink in the hotel bar after the game, which was nice as they cost a bloody fortune over there!

Don't blame him one iota - our attitude as fans to him was disgraceful.

Stayed in the Copthorne Hotel, Plymouth when we played Argyle on New Years day. Saw the squad in a closed area having dinner. When I was leaving my room with my then Mrs I spotted a lad in a Saints tracksuit coming out of a room a few doors down. He attempted to hide his room key behind a light fitting in the alleyway and wandered off. I shouted after him when it fell down and handed it to him. Turns out if you want to break into Ostlund's hotel room have a look behind light fittings in the alleyway.

(Note: I didn't break into his room, nor am I suggesting anyone does)
