The difference between Southampton and bournemouth.....

Remember in 2005 when Reading suddenly decided they were our rivals? F**k me that was annoying.

As hillarious then as Brighton and the Cherries are now in that regard.

They are rivals in the same way that Peterborough and Huddersfield are, nothing more. There can be only one Blue cancer.

is that I don't care about B'mth (or Brighton) any more than any other team. Only interest in this league is our position.

Where as they are both very jealous of us, and their biggest pleasure this season is in comparison to us.

Remember Cherries players and fans first celebraton song when they won promotion? Now you are going to believe us we are going to St Marys! Bless.

The likes of Bournemouth (and to an extent Brighton) are never going to be our rivals in the way Pompey are. They may be relatively local, but Winchester FC is relatively local and nobody would consider them to be a derby fixture.

AFC Totton are more a rival!

Thing is, they love this. They love it when we talk about them. And they love it that our biggest attendance was against them.

As I have pointed out, I would say we have more interest over them than the rest of the league. Although, this isn't because they are "rivals", it's because they hate us which leaves us with slightly more interested in them than other teams.

They are now banging on that it must be our cup final at their place aswell, hence so many of our fans trying to tickets. Now, we are a big club (which they seem to accept!), have a much bigger fan base, the game is local, and they're right next to us in the league. But yeah, it's because they're "rivals"

Bless 'em.

I suppose I should apologise as it is an ALBION fan that started this ridiculous thread. But seeing as I am here I have to answer a point...You are not our rivals and never will be, we have a rivalry of our own thanks very much. As you are in our region (ie the 4 South Coast clubs) it makes for an local-ish derby which is a bit more interesting than your run-of-the-mill league game, so as far as we are concerned you are just lumped Saints, Pompey and Bournemouth together...Although the fact we are both (along with Bournemouth) are all competing at the sharp end of the same division gives is another dimension.

So, you can carry on hating Bournemouth or Portsmouth or whoever it is...

Just for the record the fool that started the thread has admitted to being a Man Ure fan, his only interest in Brighton is that his boyfriend is a fan.

Brighton are already as good as up anyway.Doubt if they give a toss whether Saints and Bournemouth go up with them or not.

Not so sure. It was quite a shock to see how much they dislike us for some reason. The general consensus on their forum is that us losing in the play off final would be the best result. Rather sad, but there you go.

I quite like both Bournemouth and Brighton.

Generally want southern clubs to climb the divisions - excluding Portsmouth, of course.

When I saw the 2-2 draw with Brighton last season, I reckoned they could be serious challengers this time.

Credit to Bournemouth particularly though for performing so enormously above expectations in League One, especially since losing their manager. Sadly, I think they've probably peaked now and are unlikely to go up. But even finishing in the top ten would be an impressive season for them.

The fact that Bournemouth are above us does show that Saints have rather under-performed this term, but there's plenty of time to turn this round and I'm confident we will.

We aren't in a 'as bad' position as we think we are. We may be only in the playoffs, but we have tonnes of games in hand over everyone around us. Let's wait until we've completed those games in hand.

I'd prefer to think of the number of games we have in hand in imperial measurement, even if the tons then won't be as numerous.

Alright then, 3 games in hand over bournemouth. 4 games in hand over MK Dons. 2 over Peterborough and Huddersfield. Automatic Promotion is still in our own hands.

I would not take what a few divs on our messageboard say that seriously.

Personally, I would rather you stayed down...Not through any particular hate (there is only team I really hate, really hate) it is just I would rather the ALBION are clearly the top team on the South Coast team. I also, do not go in for this South Coast pals act and have no desire to see the rest of you climb the divisions...In the same way I doubt very much Middlesbrough fans think it is great for the North East that Newcastle and Sunderland are in the Premier League whilst they scrap around at the bottom of the Championship.

But just to play devil's advocate, if Pompey had gone bust, what would you have done for a rivalry?...Pretty much every club in England is 'paired off' and surely you would not have taken Bournemouth on!!

I think that these Brighton chaps are great, witty and real stattos when it comes to their football. I think that we should all meet up before the Brighton away game somewhere central for a laugh and a well deserved drink. How about the Pier?

It would be just like the old days...
