What's happened to Ryan Dickson?

He was injured, as Adkins said in interview the ball smacked Ryan in the head and was treated for concussion.

Also, Saints squad has so much depth for this level, we don't necessarily need him on the bench.

Really he was knocked out by a football? yes we have depth it's true. I just wondered as he was a regular on the bench at least if not starting earlier in the season last few games not so much.

If a football hits you in the head at force and jars you head back, I don't see why it couldn't leave you concussed.

Last few games he has been injured. Also the squad has got bigger recently (N'Guessan and Forte) which may push him down the pecking order to get in the match 18.

Against Swindon, Saints had a squad that meant they could have a strong seven man bench and still leave no room for Seaborne, Forte, Dickson, Connolly, Bialkowski, Puncheon and Mills etc. All of those would get in the majority of starting XI's in this league.

That can't be true we needed a least another 6-7 players in the transfer window just to to make the playoffs this season according to some posters on here.

I once knocked out my right back. I caught the ball from a corner & tried to quickly launch it upfield. Unfortunately he didn't get out of the way quick enough & got the full force from about five yards away. It took him 5 minutes to come around, by which time the ambulance was on it's way.

I have no doubt a football in the wrong place could floor you if kicked hard enough (I wouldn't want to get in the way of one of Lambert's pile drivers). It just seemed that Dickson had been out for a long time for such an injury, I could be wrong (I problem am) but I don't think he has featured since the Man U game. Seems like a long time for a smack in the head from a football.

No probs. I thought you were doubting the possibilty of being knocked out by a football, as you say it does seem along time.

Its a shame, i like harding, but i prefer Dickson.

Harding for me is far too inconsistant this season, but then, Dickson has his off games too. I think Dickson needs more of a run at leftback though in order to prove his worth, i get the feeling the the more we play him here, there and everywhere then he will never settle.

I don't think Dickson's played since his high profile giving the ball away which lead to Man Utd scoring.

When I've seen him play at St Marys I've always thought he tends to drift into the middle of the pitch a lot and doesn't give much width or defensive cover. Still though he looked quite good there as central midfielder. As a left back or left winger I prefer Harding and Lallana, and even Mills.

Harding done brilliantly yesterday. He completely lost skate c*nt who then smashed it in the net. Still, it doesn't matter, because it's Dan Harding who is faultless.

its not...he is a league 1 player (who is rather good) and league 1 players will make mistakes..or we will never concede any goals...ever whilst in LEAGUE 1...

^^^ this Harding is a good leftback at this level. Is he perfect? of course not he has had a few shockers in a saints shirt but I'd be hard pressed to think of a saints player in the current squad who hasn't.

Harding is my preferred choice at left-back but Dickson provides healthy competition for places.

People seem to forget that he was highly sought after in the summer and a few Championship clubs were in for him.

Brentford were very disappointed to lose him, and he was in the League One Team of the Year last season if I remember rightly? Could be wrong however.

My point is, he's a very capable player, more than good enough for us and will do a job should we get promoted too.

I thought it was that guy from Carlilse Ian Harte that was in team of the year at leftback. I haven't seen enough good stuff from Dickson to make me think he deseves a place ahead of Harding but it's all subjective. TBH I thought Mills was more than good enough for us and a capable player.

I do not rate either of Harding or Dickson. Also I was knocked out by a richochet (No Irish jokes please) when the ball was wellied at a free kick hit the guy in the wall next to me on his foot and then hit me on the side of my temple. I was 'seeing stars'for 10 minutes. Hilarious and I went back on and played and we lost to what is now Bournemouth Poppies.

I once made the mistake of attempting a diving header at a corner that was absolutely hammered into the 6 yard box. I met it with my forehead, and though it didn't actually knock me out but I can see how it could.

Mind you that was in 1995 when we used "proper" footballs, you could leave your door open, etc.

I also missed a penalty in the same match due to the ball sitting in a hole where the penalty spot should have been, so there may be some differences to the environment in which Dickson had his accident...

I think Harte got put in at left-back for team of the year but he actually played in the centre. I think he also got in on a account of scoring a few. All if I recall correctly, I'm sure someone will correct me if otherwise...

Puncheon was in the team of the year,Lallana wasn't. Means absolutely nothing, just the opinions of some hack journalists after a big binge session.Ankergren was no doubt a better keeper than Davis last season but Davis was in the "team".

I think you will find its voted for by the players from each team in the division.

But then, what do they know? Especially compared to the enlightened members of this forum.

I stand corrected then, anyway Dickson wasn't in the team,Neither was Adam.Players would vote for those that had a good game against them I suppose,or their friends or not for their rivals. The team seems incongruous to me,composed mainly of Norwich,Saints and Leeds players.I'd never vote for Kisnorbo ahead of Fonte, few would I guess.

Dickson started against Oldham, as did Richardson. Both played very well - strong, disciplined, good support going forward, positionally excellent at the back. Neither Harding or Butterfield came on from the bench. I think the competition for places has driven Butterfield and Harding to up their game, which is no bad thing. But lets not forget that Dickson was first choice not very long ago

few would have played against Fonte seeing as he joined in January and the voting is done well before the end of the season.

I notice on Soccerbase it says the fee for Fonte was £800,000. I know £1.2m was always bandied about, but if £800,000 was the true price, boy was that a steal.

Dickson should serve a ten match ban for his shocking pass which lost us the tie against Man Utd.

not his best bit of play since he joined us, but the pass to him was the problem. He didn't want it given to him there. Poor decision by Seaborne or was it Fonte?

IMO he has looked excellent in pretty much all the games he has played. He has a great engine and great heart. More than quick and strong enough, he is a very good defender. Going forward he looks very comfortable on the ball and he delivers fantastic crosses. Up until the Manure game he was playing very well and he'd of been my first choice, but Harding has come back well since the P'boro game.

Excellent competition. Excellent signing if you ask me.
