Tac-tics Posted 20 March, 2011 Share Posted 20 March, 2011 The Football League Paper, mentions our apparent move for Brian Howard and Barnsley are interested in signing him. Also Plymouth Argyle's Yannick Bolasie is being tracked by ourselves and Charlton. Not a bad little Sunday paper to read, good journalism and coverage of all the leagues and sides. Bit steep @ £1:50 but a decent read.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 21 March, 2011 Share Posted 21 March, 2011 Yannick Bolasie - please no - he's a winger and he's not good enough for our side IMO.

Saint_clark Posted 6 May, 2011 Share Posted 6 May, 2011 Bolasie don't know much about, but I reckon we could get better than Howard in the NPC.
Saint Charlie Posted 6 May, 2011 Share Posted 6 May, 2011 Bolasie was pretty sharp against us on Monday but not a whole lot of end product (goal aside). Would be a decent option off the bench but not a starter.
Give it to Ron Posted 6 May, 2011 Share Posted 6 May, 2011 he is actually quite good Was by far their best player on Monday - looked very dangerous and took his goal well.

Thedelldays Posted 6 May, 2011 Share Posted 6 May, 2011 Merrington seemed to like him during the match commentery.......not sure if thats agood thing or bad. He sounded good on the radio though he is young, quick, tricky...and im sure would have stood out in a better team around him this season...can play on each wing too news here is that brighton are in pole position to get him

sandwichsaint Posted 6 May, 2011 Share Posted 6 May, 2011 Is it just me or does Gus Poyet look like a tortoise? Is that the Champions League trophy he's holding up? And why has somebody photo-shopped trees over the big crowd behind him?

With the right coaching they thought he could be a very good player.
shurlock Posted 6 May, 2011 Share Posted 6 May, 2011 Was easily their best player on monday but looks very raw - and, frankly, talented but inconsistent wingers are a dime a dozen. And it would be waste just to stick him on the bench. Wingers -more than any other position- need a decent run in the team to build confidence etc. Plymouth had the luxury- with the likes of AL, OXO, even to a lesser extent Guly, whether we would show similar patience is less clear. I thought Brighton were after LuaLua (on loan from Newcastle) who did a decent job for them before getting injured?
Chez Posted 6 May, 2011 Share Posted 6 May, 2011 I thought Brighton were after LuaLua (on loan from Newcastle) who did a decent job for them before getting injured? he's available on a free so I'd expect him to join Brighton.

With the right coaching they thought he could be a very good player. Quite. Funnily enough I went to an Argyle game around Christmas, and there was a feature interview with him in the programme where he said that he felt he'd missed out not being part of any sort of organised youth setup. At 21 there is still room for improvement, so we may be able to get more out of him. However I would much prefer us to make a move for someone like Keith Treacy (if available) who is much more proven at a higher level and is still young as well. a1ex2001 Posted 6 May, 2011 Share Posted 6 May, 2011 but I reckon we could get better than Howard in the NPC. Playing at his full potential Howard was one of the best players the NPC has seen in recent years if Adkins reckons he can get him playing close to that level again I'd be happy for us to take a punt on him. Plenty of experience, plenty of quality and believes he has something to prove to saints still.

dannysfc Posted 6 May, 2011 Share Posted 6 May, 2011 I wasn't at the Plymouth game on Monday but I did listen to it on Solent and I heard that Merrington was praising Bolasie and that he sounded Good but is it just me or that it is suddenly funny that we are now apparently after him after he scored against us or were we just after him in general before he scored against us!?! Also Brian Howard would be a Great signing if we do end up signing him as I think he is still a Good player and depending on whether Reading go up or not as I think we should make a move for him but we will see with that one! COYR !!
MerceSaint28 Posted 6 May, 2011 Share Posted 6 May, 2011 Have heard through a mate of Wade Elliot (Bart n pevrill college), who is a friend of mine. Saints have been in touch with both Wade and Brian Howard. The enquiry was to garner their level of interest in a move to Saints. Both were very interested but Saints apparantly have a long list of targets and work on a tier system, whereby they have levels of desirability and players to turn to if they can't get certain targets. Very interesting.....i just hope we are not compassionate about who stays. Seabourne, Gobern, Stephens will not be good enough to be where we want to be in the Championship. The same goes if we get an opportunity to get someone in who is better than what we have got, we have to do whats best for the club

Rebel Posted 6 May, 2011 Share Posted 6 May, 2011 Gobern is one of the few players we've got - along with Morgan, Lallana and one or two others - who can actually play one touch football - he just needs more games under his belt to get the first team experience needed. He also has pace and power - we would be stupid to let him go. The higher up the league we go the better he will be.

derry Posted 6 May, 2011 Share Posted 6 May, 2011 Wouldn't we have to get permission from players' clubs to speak to them if they're still under contract ? perhaps we did though. We have been talking to Brian Howard or more likely his agent since last summer. Pardew was after him but he signed a new three year contract at Reading. Although he wants to play for Saints I can't see it happening. As for Barnsley, not for the contract he has at Reading for another two years plus his wife from Totton and a new house at Bartley, he doesn't need to move anywhere at this time. Rasiak-9- Posted 6 May, 2011 Share Posted 6 May, 2011 Probably all we need to add for our current front line is a pace merchant to bring off the bench - stereotypical skinny, quick, black fella - Bolasie would be the perfect player.

corsacar saint Posted 6 May, 2011 Share Posted 6 May, 2011 Perhaps I am in the miniority and agree Dale Stephens has not set the world alight here by any means. However I think he could turn into a decent signing ,if we sign him permanently in the summer. I think CMS and Neil Danns would be good shouts as well.
