simo Posted 23 May, 2011 Share Posted 23 May, 2011 He hasn't made it into the 23 man squad ! Maybe a blessing in disguise for us but the fa may have ****ed up there can't see as many going to the game at sms now as what there would if he was in ! S-Clarke Posted 23 May, 2011 Share Posted 23 May, 2011 Blessing in disguise for me. Not bothered at all. Gives him a summer to get over his niggling injuries and come back fresh and ready to take the leauge by storm.
Andy_Porter Posted 23 May, 2011 Share Posted 23 May, 2011 It was obvious he wouldn't make the cut. The FA are obviously far more interested in how we do at the Euro's rather than selling a few thousand extra tickets.

I may be biased but I think he gives something different to the other midfielder's and a few of the strikers in the squad ! I'm kinda glad he gets a rest but its a shame for Adam as its probably his last chance to play for England !
Bearsy Posted 23 May, 2011 Share Posted 23 May, 2011 MIDFIELDERS Marc Albrighton (Aston Villa), Tom Cleverley (Manchester United), Jack Cork (Chelsea), Jordan Henderson (Sunderland), Henri Lansbury (Arsenal), Fabrice Muamba (Bolton Wanderers), Jack Rodwell (Everton), Danny Rose (Tottenham Hotspur), Scott Sinclair (Swansea City) Hard to argue. Danny Rose is a bit lucky maybe, think he's been playing LB for the Spuds.
Crab Lungs Posted 23 May, 2011 Share Posted 23 May, 2011 Their loss...glad he's got a chance to have a decent rest Totally agree. Anyway, Lallana will be more successful than 75% of this lot in his career, anyway: Frank Fielding (Blackburn) Scott Loach (Watford) Tom Smithies (Huddersfield) Alex McCarthy (Reading) Defenders Nathan Baker (Aston Villa) Joe Bennett (Middlesbrough) Ryan Bertrand (Chelsea) Steven Caulker (Tottenham) Kieran Gibbs (Arsenal) Ben Mee (Manchester City) Kyle Naughton (Tottenham) Micah Richards (Manchester City) Chris Smalling (Manchester United) James Tomkins (West Ham) Kyle Walker (Tottenham) Midfielders Marc Albrighton (Aston Villa) Jack Cork (Chelsea) Tom Cleverley (Manchester United) Mark Davies (Bolton) Jordan Henderson (Sunderland) Henri Lansbury (Arsenal) Josh McEachran (Chelsea) Fabrice Muamba (Bolton) Jack Rodwell (Everton) Danny Rose (Tottenham) Scott Sinclair (Swansea) Forwards Nathan Delfouneso (Aston Villa) Gary Hooper (Celtic) Daniel Sturridge (Chelsea) Danny Welbeck (Manchester United) Connor Wickham (Ipswich)
Crab Lungs Posted 23 May, 2011 Share Posted 23 May, 2011 Looking at that, many are 'tidy' footballers but no game changers by any means. Lallana probably has something that none of that squad have, irrespective of the division he played in.

Pretty sure they only extended the size of the squad in the first place to announce he was in it though, so they've already done their bit of marketing there. Minsk Posted 23 May, 2011 Share Posted 23 May, 2011 IMO, Adam is better than many of the midfielders and forwards in the final squad - but I am happy he has the opportuntiy to rest and FULLY get over his injuries during the summer.

LGTL Posted 23 May, 2011 Share Posted 23 May, 2011 All the midfielders and attackers have proved themselves at the highest level, with the exceptions of Davies, Lansbury, Delfounso and Wickham. Lallana is a quality player but I wouldn't go as far as to say he is better then the majority of them.
paulwantsapint Posted 23 May, 2011 Share Posted 23 May, 2011 if adam missing out means that he is fit & fired up for next season it could well mean that he is leading saints towards prem return end of season

What a load of drivel.
Window Cleaner Posted 23 May, 2011 Share Posted 23 May, 2011 there are only a certain quota of over age players allowed, maybe it's 2 per group of 23 or something like that. I think Mancienne and Richards are both over age so if you want to hold on to them in the group then you can't have Lallana as well.I'm not at all sure of the exact rules though and it could well be that Lallana was under 21 when qualifying started, depends when it was really. If you were eligible when the qualifying campaign started, you are eligible for the finals. Just like a 10 year old being eligible for the first game of a Tyro League under 11 season is also eligible for the last game of the season even if he is now 11 years old in an under 11's league. It just happens that the Under 21's competition is over 2 years and not 1 year for the under 11's. Which means you can get 23 year olds playing in an under 21 tournament. Would be silly if the players that got you to a finals of a competition weren't allowed to play and you had to use completely different players. That's the Olympics you're thinking of there mate. From looking at the midfielders in the squad, perhaps Albrighton aside (due to the number of full games he's played), I don't think we could have any arguements about any of those players being picked ahead of Lallana. However, their loss will be our gain next season!

captainchris Posted 23 May, 2011 Share Posted 23 May, 2011 I wouldn't pick him if I was manager either. He's been playing well, but in league 1. I really think Adam can only play what's in front of him. NA says he's the best player in the league (last year) and looking at some of the players in the PL most people who watch him week week out think he is playing in a league well below his ability so the league staus is rather irrelivent. As for proven in another league surely class can be judged on it's own by experts not by league status as guide.....Perhaps he didn't look sharp in training, I don't know but a fit on song AL would make that last 23 in my book with one arm tied behind his back..................... Still like others have said it's their loss and our gain, big shame for Adam though.....In the long run it's not good news for Saints really iether as if it's league staus which is important here it could turn his head.......................... To be fair he is not as good as most of the guys who made the cut. If he was 19 then everyone would be talking about him. He is our most important player by a mile, loads more important than chambo. But he is set to be at a big club before he is 18/9, but who can blame him?

Funny thing about your comment is there wasnt ever any training sessions they where told to stay fit and wait for the call up ,seems daft but he didnt get the chance to show them what he had anyway. St_Tel49 Posted 24 May, 2011 Share Posted 24 May, 2011 I wouldn't pick him if I was manager either. He's been playing well, but in league 1. Except that when he played against the three premiership teams this season he looked a threat against their defences too - and it was obvious that they were well aware of it.
