New depths?

bridge too far

It was pleasing to hear that circulation dropped by 200k when they decided to back Blair. British people (particularly the English) are Conservative by nature.

So how does Murdoch's decade-long support for Blair's New Labour (and some of Brown too) amount to a 'stand against socialism'?

Anyway, back to the point...

From the short amount I saw, I didn't see either of the Murdoch's give a single direct answer to any of the committee's questions. All I saw was evasion and waffle. To be expected really, but it was almost cringeworthy.

Either they didn't really know what had been going on - which begs the question 'are they fit and proper to run such a corporation given their ignorance about the propriety and (lack of) diligence of their company'

or

They're lying

My money is on the latter.

I think a lot of people with have respect for Rupert murdoch. He is an 84 year old man and was subject to a common assaunt. He came back in and he regained his composure.

I admire him for that.

And his 'stand against socialism', presumably. How does that work exactly? You still haven't answered how you reconcile that statement, your inane definition of socialism, the fact that Murdoch supported NewLab for more than 10 years, and that Brown was his fave PM.

Rupert's wife is a game one, stright in with a dig.

As for the proceding's, from what I saw the Tory bird hit the nail on the head IMO. It was so widespread and used by all the tabloids that nobody thought that hacking was that big a deal. It was only when it became clear that it was victims of crime as well, that the story grew and grew. She said that Pier's Morgan admitted in his book that he got a Mirror story from hacking. Of course they are not a part of the Murdoch's evil empire, so the BBC will gloss over that one.

He survived getting a bit of shaving foam on his suit, not exactly Harry Brown.

He's an 80 year old man that suffered a common assault. I'm sure the public will respect his reaction. That anarchist yob pulled off a masterstroke in PR for Mr Murdoch.

I stand corrected.

The point still stands that his return and his composure after the attack should be admired.

I certainly have nothing but the upmost respect for him.

Says a lot about you I think that you respect a man whose corportation hacked in to the phone of a dead 13 year old girl.

No wonder he does not know full details. Never realised the NOTW was less than 1% of his business empire

Perhaps. But you would think he would have at least known about £1m worth of payouts and employees convicted of blackmail.

It is pretty bad on his part he hasn't been on top of this stuff.

I wonder how much the Murdochs paid the pie thrower?

Indeed. Conveniently for Rupert, it has ensured that all of tomorrow's headlines will focus on what they will inevitably describe as as "appaling attack on an elderly man" instead of the issue at hand, which is that he could not give one single direct answer to any of the questions put to him.

I've little or no doubt that Murdoch is embellishing his 'corporate ignorance' somewhat, but, I worked for one of the UK's largest companies for 20 years and it was frightening how little the boardroom knew about what was happening at middle management level, let alone the shop floor.

I too think it's possible that Murdoch didn't know what was going on at the NOTW but it's inconceivable that Brooks and Coulson didn't.

That said, the buck stops with Murdoch.
