We never would have sold out 6 home games in a row under Adkins.

We didn't because we weren't playing well. NA was improving before he was fired, so who's to say we wouldn't have been in the same position we are now and have sold out the games either way?

There was obviously something about Atkins that the fans didn't like, and they stayed away in their droves. The new manager is a media darling and knows how to play to a crowd and on TV, so its no surprise our attendances are up on the back of that.

I've just had my Stag weekend in Munich. (As you may not be aware)

Our BIG DAY OUT was at Fruhlungsfest, in the Augustiner Bier Tent.

Although I did spot some very old golf clubs on sale in the Flea market outside the venue (It's the biggest in Europe BTW if you ever need to give the misses an excuse to let you go).

Anyways, the Smoking area was outside, and because we were being very silly (not a trait that the Germans really understand) we attracted FAR more attention than any oblique post on PTS.

When we were not fighting off drunken Wenches, we actually spent time talking to the other European Football fans - Barca, Sevilla, Real, Juve, Bayern & Munich 18 1-6 to Bayern.

Anyways, the point of the ramble is clear. Since we got MP on board, people in Europe 1) could not believe we got him and 2) had been paying a lot more attention to us AND watching our games.

Hell some of them even thought Danny Fox was good cover for Luke Shaw.... Every one of them said "You now play great football".

We obviously finished each conversation by telling them we would beat them in the CL in 2 years time...

So it is clear, the reason we are selling out is all these Barca, Real, Juve & Bayern fans flying in to watch real football being played.

So the OP is correct if anyone needs proof just try and book a Flybe flight from Europe into Southampton on a match day weekend.

Perhaps the way I have put this forward isn't the most tactile, but I do believe that the attendances are higher due to the Poch, and it would have been unlikely we'd get as many sold out games in a row under Adkins.

Perhaps what you SHOULD have done is asked

Is the football we are playing under MP better than under NA & is that the reason we have sell out crowds now?

Or is it simply we show more signs of winning games under MP than we did under NA and so more people are wanting to watch?

IMHO the latter BTW

Not only has Cortese taken the correct decision for a footballing point of view, but also a commercial one by the look of things...

End of season you always see the gates pick up. The decision to change managers is indeed proving to be a good one but linking coincidences to back up an theory is not really a robust argument

And they are taking the place of many of the Japanese fans who would have been filling the stadium had we not got shot of Lee.

Its only the end of season glory hunters its starts earlier and earlier every year like xmas !

Oh God not another self righteous so called supporter! Embrace all Saints supporters young, old, those can afford to go often, those that can't, those that like watching good football and that don't care if it's dross as long as they are the 'martyrs' fighting a cause! If you have no other 'cause' than watching Saints take a look at yourself! I for applaud everyone that goes along even if it's once a year!

Perhaps you would prefer only the two thousand fans that would be left if we were in the conference to be let in? Perhaps even they should should undergo a lie detector test and a cross examination from the true fans kangaroo court before being let in.....

Get a life and stop *****ing.....we need every fan we can get !

The real fans are the ones who were there during our relegation to L1, in our first season there and were at our unglamourous away games. I remember when we were close to going under and every penny counted appeals were made for fans to pack St Mary's, we got crowds of 24,000 and 27,000, these games whilst not glamour games were arguably our biggest ones ever, because the money that came in was keeping the club alive. It's easy to come along when times are good and to see the big teams, people seem to be able to find the money then, no surprise family birthday parties or weddings to go to when the Mancs and the Scousers are in town. So yes, the ones that were there in bad times are the fans, the ones that come along now and again for the big games are Soccerball consumers. If that makes me a self righteous so called supporter with Saints as my only cause then I can live with that.

All wrong. The sell out crowds are due to women swelling the ranks - they all seem to fancy Pochettino. Watch St Mary's demographic change over the next couple of years and hear the pitch of a goal celebratory roar rise 2 octaves to a shrill moaning sound.

Well said. Although in the league one days I often brought along mates who support other clubs (all glory hunting c*nts with lame excuses for following a big team) as it was so easy to rock up, pay £22 quid or so on the day and pick up some seats in the kingsland corner... so they werent all real SFC fans!

To add to that, I have successfully converted one and another will be a saint soon enough.

Wathcing Wigan v Millwall in the FA cup semi really highlighted the plague of women descending on the game, the Wigan end was about 50% women, more concerned about dancing to the music at the end... It just seems to kill off any bite from the fans, the passion of the crowd dies (no testosterone), no roar just screams, teas and hot chocolates everywhere...

Coming to you @ SMS soccerball saturday FFS

A good point Adrian! I was sat next to a woman at SMS recently and she came over all 'Mr Darcy' and fainted after Poch bent over to retrieve a water bottle in the technical area. This was the same baggage that threw up into her handbag when Nigel's false teeth fell out whilst shouting instructions versus Wigan. This is what we have to look forward to...
