I asked it before Why TF do we need a winger?

Have plenty of players who can deliver from out wide so why the need for someone who that is the only they can do ?

Just asking OK

Because Koeman likes options and competition and let's face it JRod will be off in January as long as he recovers remotely well...

It's because of the system that Koeman is employing 4 -3 -3 (the front three looks to be Striker, Right Wing, Left Wing), we are pretty good with Tadic on either the right or left (more lethal on the right at the moment because his link up play with Clyne is excellent). Jay Rod is currently out injured, so we don't really have a natural extra winger on Premier League quality (yes Isgrove is out injured, and seemed to be in Koeman's plays)

Shane Long at the moment seems to be a make-shift winger, but isn't playing too wide because he's usually more central (or has been instructed to play more central).

Therefore we are linked with Townsend (RW), Mane (LW), Redmond (RW), Kacaniklic (LW).

On the Sky website:

Southampton boss Ronald Koeman is keen to sign a winger today and Andros Townsend was reportedly under consideration, perhaps in exchange for Jay Rodriguez, but Roger Clarke tells Sky Sports News that they will not be pursuing a deal. Nathan Redmond of Norwich City, however, remains very much on their radar.

First rule of negotiation: pretend that you are no longer interested in 'player x' and that you've now turned attention to 'player y'....
