You say that, but the climate has gone a bit weird. Nearly 40c in northern Europe in May isn't right. Nowt we can do about it, although the chem trail brigade will tell us it's all weather manipulation, or some such.

Broadly agree, does depend on what the level of ventilation in the school is like.

Trouble is, at least in extreme heat the kids can be regulated in terms of drinking water, shorter outside breaks. When they’re out of school, in some less salubrious areas the parents will kick the kids out first thing and get stuck into the alcohol and the kids won’t have been given sunblock, proper hat etc.

Oi! Apart from the alcohol bit, that was some of my childhood! 🙂

Summer holidays...out to the parks in a group...cricket...football...jumpers for goalposts...called in for Robinson's barley water...race back out...mum calling...just another 20 minutes....back for tea...hmmm?

I shall inform my parentals, that such activity was unbecoming, and an indication of a less than salubrious upbringing. They will be mortified. 🙂

On 28th June 1976 it was 35.6C in Southampton, the highest June temperature so far recorded in the UK, in the middle of 15 days of temperatures reaching over 32C in England, and I was sitting my "O" levels.

My 1980s childhood as well, football in the park off Weston Grove Road, some days exploring the Archeries woods with friends up as far as the memorial at Weston. Other days at the pitch and putt on Weston Shore.

Climate has changed now though and my MIL in her mid-80s is certain the sun has become a lot more fierce than it was. I first noticed it during 2018 when we were in the Lake District during WC2018 and the roads were melting under the car. When one of those roads is the infamous Hardknott when you are actually driving on it, that is not.

Ive been told a couple of tips, puta bowl of water on the window ledge with the window open a little, and also put a wet twel on a chair in front of a fan and that will help

There’s tips that work and some that don’t, but when it gets super hot there’s not really much you can do without AC.

I do the standard things you should do: doors and windows closed during the day, curtains closed all day on the sunny sides of the house. Then you’re only supposed to open the windows once the outside temperature is cooler than inside. On a typical hot day this is, I find, usually around 9pm.

The problem last night was that I went to bed at 11pm and it was 30 degrees in the bedroom. From what I can gather it only came down to below 30 degrees outside from about 10pm onwards. And if there’s no breeze kicking about at that hour, opening the windows doesn’t make much difference.

Ah well. One more night of it, Friday looks a bit more reasonable then back to mid 20s and below which is much more manageable.

On the M49 this morning, the matrix board had a message saying "extreme heat, take care".  It didn't tell me how to take care though, what to do, how to do it, how I could avoid dying etc.  All very disappointing.

Then on the A470, the matrix sign said "Heat alert, take water with you".  It didn't tell me how much water or where to take it.  So confusing.  Surely taking water with me would be heavy, which would make me hotter?

I tried the trick last night where you put hands in cold water.  I guess it worked as it did make my hands colder, for a very short time anyway.  Other than that it was useless.
